The Bentley only seems to have been used only in England.

Re: W.O. Bentleys in India (Produced from 1919 until 1931)

Reviving a thread with a very nice find. Came across these 2 images of WO cars - one of which I don't think we have seen before

This car is almost certainly the 3 litre that survives in Indore. Unfortunately I cannot confirm the chassis number at the moment - over to the experts.
W.O. Bentleys in India (Produced from 1919 until 1931)-img_0351.jpg

This had me particularly excited - what appears to be a genuine Vanden Plas WO, with a Bangalore / Mysore registration number that I hadn't seen before. John Fasal was kind enough to identify the car (as usual with very detailed history!) as a 1929 4.5 litre, chassis NX3452, sold new to Bhavnagar and changing a few hands locally before being exported to England, where it presently survives.

Very nice photos.
The first photo is the Indore car which had raced in Kolkata. It has really gone around, Kolkata, Bihar (BRQ nust be Bihar), Bombay (where it had the MRH number), and then on to Indore. The grill on it made up. This photo shows the car taking part in that rally held around 1972 starting from Hindustan Petroleum House near today's Mantralaya. I thought that this car had also been in Bangalore, but now it clear that it may not have been there.

This is the same Bentley as shown above, the first photo. The location is Kolkata, New Empire Cinema also exists in Kolkata at Humayun Place, New Market Area, Taltala, Dharmatala, Kolkata, West Bengal 700087. (Thanks google baba). The movie being advertised is "Biwi Aur Makan" which was current in 1966.

The second photo above made me re-look at a photo in my possession. I always thought that it showed the Indore Bentley in Bangaluru, but after having a highly magnified and closer look at the rear number plate, this is apparently the exported Bentley. I believe that this photo was taken in Bangalore, I wonder if anyone can recognize these gents and the location. Bangaluru also had some stalwarts and sadly I have not met many of them who passed on. Many cars which were subsequently exported were lying around in Bangaluru for a while.

One more photo clarified.

Cheers harit

W.O. Bentleys in India (Produced from 1919 until 1931)-bentley-8-liter-yr5083.jpg

The ex-Roni Khan (and currently owned by Darab Khan) Bentley 8-Liter, Chassis YR5083

The attached article (Sept 2016) suggests that this is not a full McKenzie car, but rather only the engine is.

Thanks for the period pictures, Deepak. The RR should be the PIII (Chassis 3AZ47, ex-Viceroy)

Meanwhile, the photo / advertisement above is thought to be the original body on the Roni Khan car (Chassis YR5083). The body chopped and wings changed over the course of history

That Chrysler belonged to one of my uncles Col Ishaq of the Hyderabad Army was a fantastic original unrestored car with superb patina sadly sold and restored a few times what a shame

BOM 5555 was indeed a Sassoon car as presumed. It was registered to EV Sassoon, Dangol Road, Bombay in a 1924 document.

Bumping up an old post with updates.

The car with the local body "In India" is indeed #432, today in the Sanghi collection. This is probably the fourth body after the factory saloon, then a German DHC, then a sporty dual cowl racer torpedo, then this one and finally the present Van Den Plas style tourer. The present VdP style body is seen as far back as the 1960s when the car was still in Calcutta. Thanks as always to John Fasal for the updates.
