Yes Karlos. These cars were inherited by a cousin whose husband obviously does not care and the cars have been ruined. Sad

HI DKG

whats up, where have you been all this time?

It is sad to see these cars which were once in great condition so neglected. What happened to the Dodge Tourer ? What is the car in front of the Adler?

Wasif

wasif has requested for pics of my Adlers. Here are two. The brown car has been restored, the blue car has undergone tinwork. The coachwork of the blue car is by Karmann.

Cheers harit

Nice pics Harit. Like I said that blue car has a fine and rather interesting history.

Now if you can trace where my cream Adler went you can go upto it and take back the spare wheel bolt that I too off of what became yours

Harit.

The Karmann sedan has a rather interesting mod viz the coil spring on the rear axle.

What is the mileage shown on the car, has it been used extensively. This mod would indicate it saw much use

Never noticed that till you pointed it out. I clearly remember gazing for hours at end all these unique designs in the Trumpf Juniour Sport that was being restored some years back that I had the opportunity to spend time with. The independant rear suspension, front wheel drive, strange gear shifting gate must have been a revelation at the time. I find them very stylish too - even in sedan form as posted above.

On a car of this age and history usually it is not advised to rely on the odomoeter reading. Plus they usually only go to 99,999 kms/miles, so if the car has done 1,35,000 miles it will only show 35,000 - which can be considered low milage.

karl the most unique thing about these cars is the belt that drives the dynamo from an opening on the shaft between the engine and the front mounted gearbox.

The only way to get a belt on this car we assumed was by disconnecting the engine and gearbox to slide the belt in place. Then one day we were chatting on how unpractical this is and then it dawned on us that the original belt was not a closed loop kind but an open ended kind as used on period water pumps which you slide in place and it then hook it closed.

I vaguely remember seeing a car like this in the Sanghi collection. I think it was a Steyr. Not very sure though

Adler in Hyd

Last year while looking for some parts, I find one Adler in very good condition in a garage in Secunderabad. On enquiring further with the mechanic, it is learned it belong to collector, he has lot of other classic cars.

But this Adler of A.P. registered is kept in very condition with new Avon tyres 4.50x17, came for some tuning, will post it snaps soon.

Cheers!

WOW what a small world. This Adler used to belong to me and my friend Zozy when we were running a restoration shop in Marredpally Sceunderabad.

The car was bought from a "gowli" . It was buried up to the doors in mud and had not run in around 30 years.

We got it and completely restored it and it was sold to the family who owns the Siris labs. They did have a nice collection of cars but were very private about it.

This was my very first ground up restoration on a vintage car.

Please do try to post more pictures of it.

The car did have an APY regestration, cnt remember the numbers.

There was an identical cabriolet in the old city in maroon and black which we used to visit when we needed to check someting.

Then there was the sedan that came out of the barn with teh other Liaq Ali cars.

T believe the old scity Cabrio and the Laik Ali Sedan went to Harit in Mumbai.

When you mentioned Adler ...Secunderabad and APY I was instantly interested and was 99% sure you were talking about my old Adler.

This 1938 Wanderer W 24 also looks a little bit similar to the Adler. Incidentally, this car belonged to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and is displayed at his residence Netaji Bhawan (now a museum) in Kolkata.
