Time to save one more VW:D

A simple and a comprehensive guide to restore any VW.

Such kind of restorations need big budgets and my dear friend was willing to shell for a rare VW. :)

Will not do lot of talking here, just enjoy the pics.

Quick question, why is this also called the "Variant" ??

Not sure why some people call all Type 3's "Variant", The Type 3 came in 3 body styles, the "Notchback", the "fastback"(like this one) and the "Squareback", which was the only one officially called "Variant".

Apart from manufacturing VW Beetles, the T3's were like a different derivative. Its actually like a different variant of VW built and were called Variant. Still even myself not convinced by the derivation:)

But only 3 different types of T3's were produced.

1) VW Squareback
2) VW Fastback
3) VW Notchback (3 box)

Rust Rust Rust...... Everywhere RUST.

Time to transform the rust bucket.

Lots and lots of panels were replaced. The floor was off and a new floor built.

Why did you not decide to stick to the original floor pattern? Budgetary constraints?

Man thats a hell lot of work, great work Pavan and hats off to you and your team of mechs!

We searched around for a particular dye pattern all across our industrial town, 2 weeks of search got us to this place who could take up our small metal pressing job.

No budgetary constraints during this restoration.

Yeah. They are cylindrically opposed flat four engines.

Yes Jaggu, These guys have done such a kind of work for the first time, they are more than thrilled with the ongoing outcome of this car. :)

The all new chassis is neatly coated with antirust coating, painted over and ready to mount on the rust free body. :)

This looks like a full blown restoration so why have you left the glass and some of the trim on the body, like thre rear plate light, there could be rust under it and in the front screen apperture so its gonna be a good idea to remove all glass and fittings on the body to make sure.

All stripped presently, and yes this is a full blown restoration project, which is still underway since last 60 days.

Where do you people find all these cars from?? I never saw or heard about this car and here I am seeing it being restored! Feels like a privilege to be associated with Team-BHP!

Thank you for your compliment, i am trying my level best to get this beauty on road just the way it was 43 yrs ago.

While the body work was underway, the engine was opened up for a complete overhaul. Lot of missing parts inside the engine, had to wait for 2 weeks for the parts to arrive, and few were found in our good old Shivajinagar.:D

How is the body mounted onto the chassis (bolted on?) and do you give any special coating on this area?

The Body is bolted on to the Chassis with 14 Bolts, We need to lay a thick rubber gasket kind of thing in between, before bolting on.
