Visited Kothrud, Pune for an urgent official trip. While there, seen this at a garage lying covered. Most of the parts remain intact and original. Was happy to be clicking once again in a long long time.

Wow, nice to see a 'Spit' after quite some time! I like the mk1 and mk2 better though.
Atul Solanki had one also in red in B'bay, featured in BSM once.

Sameer Kadam's Spitfire attended the recent Sportscraft event.

This wouldnt be a SPitfire. I suspect its a GT6, a 6 cyl. coupe version of the Spit. I was incidentally, told of a similar GT6 in Delhi that was fitted with a petrol Amby engine that caused many problems. Then it had another transplant with a Gypsy engine, which went on allright with it. I reckon this is the same car, apologies if I turn out to be wrong.

Sameer changed the wheels it had wire wheels before, are those orignal spitfire after market or improvised generic stuff would have liked them in full alloy silver instead of black combo

Beautiful top down machine this!I vaguely recollect seeing one of these in Delhi many year ago,being driven near the American consulate.Was a bit too late in checking if there were any mods, or it was a stock car.

Nice close-up pics. Gordon! I can see your attention to detail in capturing even the bonnet locking catch on either side. To include a bit of trivia, the "m" on it stands for Michelotti, who'd originally designed the Herald for Standard-Triumph, UK, and stayed on to design successor cars (Vitesse, Spitfire, GT6) all commonly based on the former's chassis. Hence these cars all had the bonnet opening up the same way, and the catches with the "m" engraved on them. Here's one on that of a Herald here:

The Spitfire was one of the better looking roadsters in it's time. They're easy to restore i'm told. Nice pictures in this thread. Thanx!.

For anyone interested, I have a 1968 Spitfire Mk III. Live in Bangalore now and struggling to find good people to work on a machine like this. Have twin Weber 40 DCOEs fitted and there's just about no one competent to tune them.

Would be interested in comparing notes.

Can anyone please clarify for me as I'm curious to know - was the Triumph Spitfire actually officially imported to India - or have the examples of these cars shown been privately imported?

The Spitfire was never officially imported to India but it was a reasonably priced and reasonably fun car and that is the reason so many have been imported here.

I personally favour teh MGB against the Spitfire.

Another reason they are in good health here is that they share many parts with the Herald so they got looked after better.

A rare picture of R.D. Burman's Triumph Spitfire found by me on FB.The number is MR something. I am sure the car must be surviving till this day.

Just forwarded this image to his son and now I think I shall pull all their albums out. He did mention a MG and was sold because someone stole the steering and few parts . They also had a 67 Chevy for a while brown colour and their fiats with me
