Re: Mercedes Benz W123

Hey that's neat. Thanks Rehaan. Would be a handy tool in my search. I usually come and check on the classified section every now and then.

I do love the W126 and I enjoy every second in it, Its just that 1st love can never be forgotten. The new owner keeps sending me pictures of the car regularly and we talk about meeting soon for a short road trip.

Lets see how that turns out, its like ex-girlfriend meeting the current one
Thanks for appreciating her Tazmaan. Yes there was not much that was wrong with her when I bought her but since then I have decided to take her through a full restoration, frame up.

I'm thinking of starting a new thread on my project. Watch out for that space

Re: Mercedes-Benz W123

Slightly off topic, but in case someone on this forum is planning to dispose of his/her 240d/300d (manual), do send me a PM with the details.

Thanks !

Re: Mercedes-Benz W123

Came across three W123 240Ds advertised on olx, which seems quite well maintained.

https://www.olx.in/item/mercedes-ben...-ID1b1Xkb.html
https://www.olx.in/item/mercedes-ben...-ID1bGTwP.html

Can the gurus please advise what would be the right price to pay for the first two cars advertised? The respective sellers expect no less than 10L & 6.5L respectively

Do note that the Chennai based car has unpaid taxes for the previous two years - hence additional expenses by way of taxes plus penalties are expected. Plus there is the additional hassle of producing the car in Kerala (all the way from Pune) for renewing the Certificate of Fitness.

https://www.olx.in/item/1984-mercede...-ID1aRhVf.html

As for the the last one in the list, the colour is not to my liking. Plus I am not sure whether a W123 ever came with a five speed manual gear box (I really doubt it). But it does appear that the owner has some sort of "sane" price in mind.

An early reply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

Five speed was an option on various models.

Hi, I know this thread has been inactive, but I'm in the process of restoration of my dad's w123 200D . The car has been not driven much for past 6 years . 2 months back I put a new battery and cranked her up with lots of smoke. The suspension was changed by my dad 4 years back and we both together overhauled the braking system and clutches. My dad was a mechanic in Oman and had imported it in 99. It's a 76-80s model , but did some cosmetic changes to register as 86 model to import it. The major issues I think it has
1. Clutch even though fully floored gear shift is very hard.
2. The boot doesn't open as it's jammed due to rust.
3. Possibly need a full paint job and there are bubbles all over the body.
4. Need to go for a new braking system i.e, new callipers and pads.
5. Need to change the clutch piston (I think that's how it's called).
6. Logo broken but has a new one just need to fix it.
7. Suspension ( bilstein) have some spares.
8. Need to source the cladding on both sides ,tried a lot.
9. Full oil change.
10 . Dad had imported some Spares too for a minimal overhaul, most of them have been used up.

So gurus please do help me out , the car is in Kerala.

On the clutch, as you will be fitting new callipers and pads, change the hydraulic fluid and do a proper flush. The clutch is hydraulically operated and uses the same hydraulic fluid from the same reservoir. Flush out the line from the brake fluid reservoir to the clutch hydraulics as well. Then see how the clutch works.

It’s not uncommon for the brakes to seize up due to prolonged standing idle. Usually by just taking the callipers aparts, maybe just fitting new seals you solve it. It’s rare for the clutch pistons to seize up, but it can happen.

Before getting everything new take it apart and inspect. New seals are cheap and easy to fit. But you do have to change and flush all the hydraulic lines in the brake and clutch circuit.

Good luck,

Jeroen

Re: Mercedes-Benz W123

With a little bit of a push from a few friends I finally took the TD out for a spin and boy was it rewarding! it's been asleep for a while but no problem, it drives like new!
Hope to sort out my issue with the pentas with a fresh set of bolts, they've been coming off one their own.

Well maintained is of course in the eye of the beholder, but I can see plenty of evidence that suggest otherwise. Take a good look at the left wheel arch en the panel and you actually see rusty holes.

Left front wing has a dent, Mercedes logo appears to be missing.
Rust bubble on the bonnet?

Look at the panel and paint below the rear registration plate: rust.

The rubber strip on the rear bumper is partly detached.
Etc. etc.

The good news is, you can fix anything on these W123, but this one has all the telltales of the typical W123 rust problems.
