Pictures of his 1954 Landmaster by Mr Mayukh Ray. The Landmaster WBE 0003 was recently restored and it participated in the Statesman V & C Rally, Kolkata, in 2019 (Golden Jubilee event),when the floodgates for HM cars were opened for the first time in its 50 year old history. Sadly, while permitting much later Indian cars and bikes with foreign brand names (collaboration products), HM cars were not allowed under their rule book.

The last two pictures of another Landmaster were also sent by Mr Ray.

That's Amitabh Bachchan at Nagpur for the shooting of the film Parwana in 1970. Shooting was done during night hours. The picture shows my friend Mr Satyendu Dutta (4th from left) with his friends. The sardar (extreme left) Mr Paramjeet Singh owned Sher E Punjab, a restaurant in Sitabuldi, Nagpur. He passed away a few days back.

The Ambassador, a 1968 model has a bashed up front, left portion. When queried Mr Satyendu confirmed it. According to him:-

"Amitabh Bachchan was in Nagpur for one day in Dec 1970 for shooting of Film Parwana had schedule of 2-30 am at Airport and 11 am at Nagpur station after that he was dropped at Shere Punjab near Regal talkies and he was to leave for Bombay by Dadar express at 10 pm so the day he spent with us Sardar Paramjeet Singh was the owner of the Sher E Punjab Restaurant located at Sitabuldi. "

The car looks pleasing, especially with the VIP number, thanks for sharing. However the brown car I believe is the same car prior to restoration, just the plates have been switched.

My good friend Tanuj Saharia has a 1984 Mark IV Ambassador, the car is still with the first owner i.e his father. The car is in immaculate condition & still has the OE engine doing duty. Some photos of the car:

From Kolkata - two pictures show the earlier condition of this Ambassador/ Hindustan Station Wagon clicked on 19.06.2008.





Subsequently, the same car was clicked in January 2019 and the difference is quite perceptible.















This car is originally a Mark II (They branded the driveaway chassis as Hindustan not Ambassador) driveaway chassis from around 1967, going by its registration number. A station wagon body was built upon the chassis perhaps then, as seen by the build specifications. The owner has changed the trims and the dashboard, perhaps sometimes later during the 1980's or 1990's, when the Mark 4 grille and other trims were aplenty in the market.

The College Car which was auctioned off to the highest bidder a group of old Martinians led by Mr Prateek Hira, has been repaired, renovated and gifted to the College on Founder's Day 13 Sept 2013. This car was used by 3 former Principal's and Mr McFarland has agreed to the request of the Old Martinians to use this car on ceremonial occasions.

The car sports an interesting locally built stationwagon body. I wonder what it looked like before the restoration.
