The logo on the bonnet suggests otherwise. And since this car has attended a Cartier event- I guess, it is authentic. |
The bonnet itself is of the Landmaster. And so is the chrome strip on the fender. I am referring to the first picture posted by you
Now, I'm not good at remembering registration numbers. At best, I might recall the series or a few odd numbers.
Imagine my shock when today morning, I spotted a similar series Mark II (MYO), in a similar colour ( dark green ) and even, to my poor memory's dismay, sharing a couple of digits ( 2**9 ) !! It was indeed an emotional overload for me to think that the beloved, well maintained, daily runner, pics of which I had posted earlier on this very thread, had deteriorated so rapidly! I had to rapidly sift through my phone's gallery to console myself that it was indeed a different car! Phew!
So, ladies and gentleman, without further ado, I present to you MYO 2099; the sad cousin of MYO 2169! ( trying out Fintail's style here! He he.. ;) )

Bumped into this car at Aluva, yesterday and could not take eyes off it. Is a 1961 model, converted to Diesel and re-registered in Kerala.

This is a 1995 Ambassador, restyled as a retro with imprints of the Mark 4. Attachment 1294517

Belongs to the Old Harbour Hotel in Fort Cochin. They had this and a Ponton for airport pickup/drop. Don't see the Ponton around these days, though.

A small correction They had a Fin type not a Ponton. It has been posted somewhere on this forum. White car quite nice!

The car in question is this: Introducing the
KLA (Alleppey?) registered Mercedes-Benz W110

Spotted a Mark 1 at Mysore.

The pic is not so much about the car as the number, though! :)

We are planning to retire our old Ambassador (the one in my Team-Bhp garage) and don't want to sell or scrap it. I know that it may sound stupidly sentimental, but then there are a lot of memories associated with the vehicle and we don't want to see the car go :-(

Is this car whose registration you want to cancel? The car appears to be in good condition. Also since it is diesel, it is practical for regular use. Why don't you keep the registration?
Also, were you the first owners of the car?

It is the same car. Actually we are the 3rd to own this car, which was registered in Madras brand new and then re registered in Kerala. The car is in fine condition except for the upholstery (not the original one) which was destroyed by rats when it was garaged for 6 months when my Father was recovering from a retina detachment surgery. Since the RTO compels to scrap the car after a registration cancellation, we have decided to bring the car back to good health and to use it. Even though I use my Bullet for Office commutes, I have been assigned to take the Amby to Office twice a week to prevent him from further deterioration.:)
Since it is about to be re upholstered, any one has the pictures of the schemes used originally in the Mark 4s ?

Found a part of our Old Ambassador that is no more with us though.
Not sure of the exact year but IIRC it was between 1970-1973 model. Can anyone decode the Guarantee plate to get the year?
The Amby was there with us till 2003 though I never got the chance to drive it as I wasn't 18 then.
Shall go through the photos I have at home and pull out pictures of the Amby.
