Some comments from Harit on Ambys. He used one every day from the 80s till last year he says.

Quote:
A small note on Ambys & Landmasters. A fully original car is nice to look at but not very practical to use as a daily driver. You can make a number of modifications to enjoy more of the car. Engine, "AIR BRAKES" can be modified, changed fitted. But there are two major changes you can make to your Amby Mark II. One, fit gas shox, I had fitted Sachs on mine and the handling particularly when cornering makes a big difference. To that put metal bushes. I remember that earlier the suspension used to last maximum 18months, now it lasts for at least 4 years. And not because roads have improved.
The other modification is to fit the front windshield also in the rear. You have to cut a bit, but it serves 2 purposes. One, rear visibility is greatly enhanced, and the car looks very much better from behind.
Lastly, fit an AC. My daily drive home to office is about 7 KM, AC is fine. But if you drive more than 10KM, then forget to use the AC unless you have made modification on the engine, radiator etc.
Enjoy an Amby for a change.

Harit

In picture 2, he seems to have removed the original switch-console to accomodate the a/c. This is what my old mech is telling me too - he says both the switch tray and a/c wont fit, I need to make a choice.

I'm thinking maybe dump the superking blower and get 2 national blowers fitted inside the car instead.

I guess it would look something like this. But 1 question, how would the lights and wipers work if the switches are removed considering the steering stalks are being done away with in your car??

Steering stalks will remain - remember the wiper is now multi-speed.

Maybe I will just cut the front of the switch tray and place it under the dash below the steering? I got those switches at some cost!

1983 Ambassador mark4

Hi,
This is my 1983 model Ambassador mark 4. My dad bought this car in Aug 1983 and got it registered in the same month. Have very fond memories with this car and I learnt my driving in this car as well.In 1994 we put a diesel BMC engine and still runs on the same engine. My dad gave me this car and now i have restored it to near show room condition. i still have to sort out some things like the front and rear bumpers, now its with the nova bumpers. then the upholestry should be taken car of as well. will post more pics after that work.
cheers
Messiah

The door handles and window winders in the car you've posted (yours, I assume?) - are they original? They look really nice.

drmessiah,
1. dont change the bumpers, change the rubber guards just like the original ones (bigger)
2. add the rubber lining on the bumper as was available.
3. change the interior fabric to black as it will look more appropriate.
& cheers: for the car. the white wall looks great. this is one of the few fabulous mark 4s i've seen.

@Amit V8
Thank you very much for your appreciation of my Mark 4. I will keep all the points you mentioned in mind to do up the rest of the car.
Cheers
