Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

In my car too the semaphone holes had been welded up, we got them opened at the tin work stage. That shouldn't be too difficult as the outlines should be clearly still visible. Some finishing will have to be done to the edges

The mounting itself should be fairly straight forward, any old timer electrician should be able to assist you. The wiring now I don't know about. Access is from the inside, under the B-pillar cover strip.

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

I remember seeing Ambys where the semaphores were dummied with a projected pressed profile, perhaps, that would be factory fitted dummy in the initial phase of the total switch over to the fixed light turn indicator.

Thanks for the pics karlosdeville. Is there any beeding that runs through around the semaphore arms?

The original opening for the trafficators is intact, plates were tacked over them, filled and painted. They were easy to remove. For the mounting, it seems like the bottom sits on some kind of horizontal slat and a screw hole is there at the top. The matching screw hole is there on the car, but not the slat so a small piece is welded to accommodate that.

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

The lockable steel cap may save diesel from getting pilfered. So far so good, but the welded spots with the latch may be prone to rusting.
Some localities in Kolkata are extremely theft prone. I remember we had gone to visit a relative in another relative's Ambassador, one evening. The locality in 24 Parganas Dist. had a narrow lane sans any street light. After we all returned to the car, we were surprised to find the rear tail fin ribs missing. I noticed this first. Spending more time would mean, the car could have lost some more of its ornamentation.

An old 1979 Mark 4 spotted by me in Kolkata. The car though running, is not in its best condition. The paint is original.

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

Spotted this Ambassador on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Sunday 16 December. This was a 'government vehicle' probably ferrying some sarkari official to Mumbai. The driver was doing speeds of around 100kmph with ease.

It is quite rare to see an Ambassador (even a government vehicle) in these parts nowadays.

Great to see the square front lights and original indicators.

Oh...I see this almost everyday. It has the 1.5 diesel with a Grand like beige interior. There is no front quarter glass and the sound from the exhaust is cool too.

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

This very nice Amby was spotted in Pune last week - I'm told a family car of a well known industrialist family. The badge says Mark 3, though I think MHI series would have ceased by 1972, so probably a Mark 2. When was the Mark 3 first introduced?

The Mark II lasted from around January 1964 till June 1975. The first Mark II (black) ever made was gifted to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who already owned a Hindustan 14. Panditji passed away on May 27, 1964.
The Mark 3 came along just when the emergency was imposed, around June 1975 and lasted till Jan 1979.
The Mark 4 came along around Jan- Feb 1979.

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

Two pictures that I had clicked in New Delhi about 15 years ago featuring a taxi (top) and a Mark 3 with its original paint. The latter belonged to a known person in the neighborhood of my in-laws, but the car is now gone.

Re: Landmaster And Ambassador Picture Gallery

Spotted this well maintained / restored Ambassador a couple of days ago near Andheri RTO. Not sure which model is it - but it sported the old registration.

It is a Mark 3 Ambassador, seems to be in very good condition. Fender indicators are aftermarket additions and the rims are of a later model.

There is no beading around the trafficator holes. The trafficators can't be a tight (waterproof) fit or they won't flip in or out properly.
