Classic Volkswagens in India

Reminds me of our first car! Ours was identical to the VW beetle in red/white. It was quite economical to run this car during those days, (1980-1988). There were quite a lot of issues with the engine, certain cylinders may not fire, loud noise etc. My father finally decided to keep a spare engine. If the car develops trouble to such an extent it does not run at all, we would swap the engine. The faulty engine would repaired by my father at leisure. We would procure spares from the local spare parts shops or "total-loss" garages.

After a few years, the car was beyond repairs so we disposed it off and settled for a Datsun 120Y.

That pretty bug belongs to someone else. Though our dear bulldogji has mentioned to me in the past how a Beetle always eluded him. But I think its ok, he has better cars.

Yesterday the Beetle boys in Bombay got together for a lazy morning drive and breakfast, with copious amounts of Beetle banter. Models ranged from a 57 to a 66. What better way to start a Sunday.

This is a beetle from Central Travancore which has been a non runner due to a very bizarre cause

for more than 2 decades. It is an US spec beetle(Note the tail lamps) and an LHDone.It has good originality because the owner has not allowed anyone to tamper with it.
