Here are some pics of a 69' LHD Automatic VW Beetle that I shot in Marredpally, Secunderabd a few years ago. Excuse the poor quality mobile cam pics. I took permission from the owner Shrish, so not blanking the Reg plates. Shrish is in his late 60s and is very passionate about this beetle and showed me around his car leisurely. I see this Beetle for atleast a decade now and and it is being maintained in the same condition. IIRC, He also mentioned that it was owned by the Prinicpal of Doon School and he drove it to Hyderabad from up north.

He showed me Keith Seume's 'Beetle - a Comprehensive History' among other VW books that he had collected. BTW, I have VW Beetle Custom Handbook by the same author

OT: Shrish also owns this late 60s(?) Rajdoot bike:

Saw this well maintained beetle in Cochin recently. Seemed well cared for with a lot of original fittings.

it seems to be a 1966/1967 beetle, it sure has original+ non stock stuff,
the interior hand rests, the dash knobs, tail lamp assemblies, radio, all belong to the latter category.
only on seeing the engine bay can one say further about the originality,
by the way is it an allepey registration car?

Nice car JayD,

That looks like a 1968 Beetle.

Maybe a 1500cc 1967, engine room pics would tell it all.

No this is not a 1967 bug. If the tail lights are the original (which I presume they are) it is mostly a 69 or late 68 bug with a 1300cc engine. There were very few cars with 1500cc engines in 68/69 where the engine no's started with "H5". As matter of fact the VW produced the same only in a particular month. For instance all cars manufactured in Aug & Dec 67 came with a 1500cc engine. Similarly cars manufactured in Jul, Aug & Dec 68 came with 1500 engines etc.

Nice car. I would think that headlight and bumper guard combo ceased to exist in 67. I could be wrong. Thanks for sharing.

x2.

68-on had round upright headlamps, different front fenders, diff rear decklid, outside fuel flap, etc...

I believe this is a 67, with 68-on tail lights and non-original interior upholstery. Plus the items ajay pointed out.

kadamji,
being an owner of 67 bug you should know fully well that postjuly67 bugs never came with oval headlamps!!!
67 bug, I dont know from where you got this ''erroneous'' information that certain months had only 1500 cc engines.please visit kadams other thread on VW restoration ,where I have chronologically listed the different changes made on the bugs .

If it is 67 the tail lights are certainly not original as these type of tail light came up only in 68/69.

To add to that even the bumpers are not original. The engine lid although suggests that is a67 or post 67 bug as the it is squarish from the license plate end.

No, cannot be post-67. 67 engine lid is one year only -- as seen on the car. 68 is different.

tail lights are not original, as already stated in my previous post.
the bumpers are called blade bumpers and are original with the original overriders which were optional .this is an european imported car ,it is a1967 car, belonged to a foreigner missionary lady who brought it for her personal use.she was the nursing superintend of a mission hospital in patthanamthita district of KERALA. it changed 2 hands before it reached its present owner a traditional businessman who doesnt really want to sell this car, hence quoting a very high price!!!
