Thanks guys.

Chanu: It indeed was a well maintained scooter but a pretty shoddy job was done on the body, which was the main reason for this "restoration". The leg shields were pretty damaged and a lot of metal paste had been used previously. The paint was stripped to the metal and tinkered and then painted. Proud to say, there is no metal paste used on this scoot now.

Re: Lambretta scooters - Restoration & Maintenance

Patric & girishpv i guess the 62 Lambretta had "innocenti" monograms.

I was recently lucky to get hold of the entire kit with all rubber pipes, packing & matting

Ranjit

Re: Lambretta scooters - Restoration & Maintenance

Ranjit: The 62 did come with the API Lambretta badge.

Girish: I have one more badge and you can have it. I sourced it, and was a difficult find. Yes sir, reregistered from Delhi in 1971 in Mangalore

Girish,
You may try this ebay link too. Or even if this listing has expired, you can simply search with keyword "Lambretta" in ebay.in and find the monogram.
MONOGRAM - LAMBRETTA SCOOTER - NOSE FRONT MONOGRAM | eBay
I think Priyadarshan has bought some such stuff from this seller.

Patric if you say 1962 was a complete import then the head badge should be
"innocenti"

Re: Lambretta scooters - Restoration & Maintenance

Ranjit: Almost all bikes until 1962 were CBUs. API imported Lambretta's from Innocenti and sold it. For more newer brands, Kinetic partnered with Hyosung and got the Comet. Kinetic was badged more prominently on a Comet and Aquilla than the Hyosung. Here is the badge that Girish was talking about.

Re: Lambretta scooters - Restoration & Maintenance

Since we are discussing about monograms, what would a 64 lambretta have? "API-Lambretta" or just "API"?

Priyadarshan

To my knowledge the API-Lambretta badges continued till 1967- early 1968. The veterans here can probably confirm this.

Re: Lambretta scooters - Restoration & Maintenance

I have 2 Lambrettas in my Garage and have been running from Pole to post for the spares.I am looking for serious mechanic who can do job well.I have already spent 5k for repairs and not much has changed in scooters cosmetically.

Now I have 2 requests back to back.
  1. Suggest me a good mechanic who really wants to work better on these classics.I am fine if he is charging premium (a bit of course !)
  2. I am searching for spares like Sniffing Dog,whenever I find any scrap scooter,I run and try to get best parts out of it.Because of this habit,I have literally pulled these 2 scooters from going to Scrap merchants.Still,I am not getting few spares in Pune.I have not travelled to Delhi and UK in recent times where I was planning to procure most of the parts. Some of the members like Priyadarshan and Ilangop have been of immense help in this to me in getting some spares.
I require pointers/members who can help me in getting these
  1. Rubber Mats -2
  2. Complete rubber set -2
  3. Legshield beeding (Gola beeding?)-2
  4. All logos(Side,Legshields etc) -3 sets (I know it is available on ebay but if somebody wants to pass it on in case of extra,I will prefer to buy the same from Team BHP members)
  5. Hornswitch -2
  6. Full light assembly -1
  7. Taillamp -1 (Aluminum is preferred!)
  8. Air filters -2 (Can I use any replacement/K&N type filters?)
  9. 12 V Electricals as I am planning to make them 'Battery' compliant
I am fine to pay the required amount of money as below
= Postage Charges
+ your efforts in getting the spares(I do not know how to measure this as it is invaluable, you guys need to tell me!)
+ Cost of spares
+ Good treat as token of gratitude if somebody can ship these spares from Chennai/Delhi/B'lore to Pune.

I love my scooters and will like to keep them in absolute mint condition so that my son can ride these beauties when will go to college after 16 years (Sorry for bit exaggeration here for proving my point but I really mean it ! You guys can understand the passion behind restoring these beauties)

Cheers!

1. Yes, you can go for K&N or similar filters, if you can deviate a little from being 100 % original. But this makes replacement easier. K&N 1060 will be fine for Li 150. You even get cheaper ones from a make called HP. Unless you rejet the carb, you wont be extracting the benefit of a free flow filter like K&N.

2. I have myself rewired 2 Vijais for battery compliance. But please confirm if yours is running on a Ducatti 4 pole stator or the Lamby type 6 pole stator. Converting is a simple DIY only.

3. Nice to know that you are passing on the Lambretta passion through your DNA.
