Replaced front suspension complete, because in the work done in Kottayam, they had not used original spiders (they are not available for love of money but I have 3 sets more with me). Parts fitted now are new control arms, original springs (the old ones had sagged), new shock absorbers, new stub axles, new leaf spring shackles, brackets and bushes. The steering parts are in good shape though.

After correction, the "sagged down" look disappeared and the car has a normal stance now. Then I did the wheel camber, caster and toe setting. The angles are in the midrange of the tolerance band. Steering effort is linear and track is straight.

The ignition coil and high tension wires were replaced as coil resistance caused an overload condition which led to failure.

New S1 exhaust system parts including the custom muffler and tail pipe are ready. They will go on next. Then I changeover to the Mikuni carburettor. Then I change to the 4.3:1 axle. Then I put new tyres. Then let's see how it accelerates.

Major work will start after I get my precious MH01 number.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar
Isn't it ironical that your non S1's have 3.9 and the S1 is being given 4.3!

I was under the impression that the S1 engines made 9 additional bhp's.

What should be the right compression in each cylinder?

Dear Anirban (1100D) - I expected this question of 4.3 on the S1 from you.

My intention is to make the LHD very quick and 4.3 is a logical progression. I have 2 Mikunis, one is brand new and one is not new but has the feature to connect an idle compensator valve. The Mikuni's venturi is 19 mm as against 22 mm of the Solex so driveability at low speeds will be better (I have seen in 4919). Also please remember that the LHD has the Nissan F4W56A transmission where the ratios are numerically lower (3.757 v/s 3.86), (2.169 v/s 2.38), (1.404 v/s 1.57).

I am going to do 4.3 on the S1 to get the advantage of a powerful engine + a peppy rear axle, but your point is well taken. I HAVE NOT DONE THIS COMBINATION BEFORE. LET'S SEE OTHERWISE I JUST GO BACK. IT DOES NOT COST ME ANYTHING, I HAVE BOTH CARS, I JUST SWIPE FINAL DRIVES, THAT'S ALL.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

PS - I am getting no time to do all this, running around with my job takes away 48 hours out of the 24 available everyday.

What do you wish to achieve, a lower Transmission ratio x Final Drive ratio, for longer gearing or a higher number for greater traction?

Now little comparison

Nissan with 3.9
1st ==> 14.6523
2nd ==> 8.4591
3rd ==> 5.4756
4th ==> 3.9

Fiat with 4.3
1st ==> 16.598
2nd ==> 10.234
3rd ==> 6.751
4th ==> 4.3

Now comes the improvised ones.

Nissan with 4.3
1st ==> 16.1551
2nd ==> 9.3267
3rd ==> 6.0372
4th ==> 4.3

Fiat with 3.9
1st ==> 15.054
2nd ==> 9.282
3rd ==> 6.123
4th ==> 3.9

So we have the Fiat with 4.3 at one end (with better traction) and the Nissan with 3.9 (for higher top speeds - helped by a powerful engine)

Hello once again to all - you would be thinking where I had disappeared.

Well, I was in Indore for conducting the BAJA meet under the ageis of SAE INDIA. I head the Technical Committee. We had 27 cars built around a 280 cc single cylinder engine and a 4 speed transmission.

Just returned to Nasik. I haven't seen my Fiats in Mumbai for a long time. Cyrus is taking care of them.

I should be getting my RTO work on the LHD done by the end of next week and then I will start the restoration.

Best regards,

Behram dhabhar
