Where does the temperature meter hover/stabilize after driving a couple of km's?
Temp sits at the 80-90 deg range ( it has the small metal fan)
How much water does the car consume every morning?
Absolutely no water at all ( it has coolant and an expansion bottle)
Have you checked for water contamination in the engine oil?
Engine oil is perfect, infact changed the filter and oil last week (routinely change every 5000 km)
Does the oil level remain constant over time?
Does not drink oil at all.
If all this is fine. We only need to adjust the valve clearance, timing and then the fuel mappings.
Maybe something to do with the fuel supply, one thing that I have noticed is if i do not start if for 3 days or so then I have to use the choke and it fires only after a few cranks. if it is one day, it fires in half a crank.
One more thing, after a drive, please try and check how much does your brake drums heat up. Normally the fronts will be warmer (not hot) than the rear ones, but yet both wont be very hot. Just checking if your brakes are loading your engine.

Checked the brakes and they are normal working temperature.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Check the carb (float level and jets for blockage) and maybe check the fuel pump also, just in case.

LOL Thats the whole point of the picture. I should have taken a picture earlier. There was much more smoke comin out of it. It looked Spookily cool.

And the sound of the FFE is to die for. And now it runs so much better.

Hello everybody - sorry for being away for almost 25 days.

Following work is completed on the LHD car:
1 - the area where the floor panel was worked on is seam welded and the full underfloor is black epoxy coated.
2 - all unwanted holes in the firewall (including those having tiny rivets in them) floorboard and luggage compartment have been plugged by welding sheet metal plates in place and then metalfinished with a small grinder.
3 - rear stabilizer bar and shock absorber mounting cross member reinforced
4 - the A/C cutout in the instrument panel is filled-in by welding a pre-fabricated sheet metal piece and metal-finished by grinding
5 - the centre console mountings are eliminated.
6 - fabricated and fitted completely concealed driving light mounting brackets by taking supports from the bumper mounting brackets and integrating the grille mountings alongwith it (this is done for the first time).
7 - fabricated a steering gear support strut bar from LHS to RHS, will be fitted to the car during final assembly (this was done in 2 cars before - in my red car BLL4919 and in my ex rally car MMY43).
8 - realigned the LH and RH struts to specifications after removing the engine and then added reinforcement channels and plates in them.
9 - removed the brake and clutch pedals (unique to LHD) alongwith all brake bundy tubes. Integrated a new BIL master cylinder and completely realigned the bundy tube layout with alternate length pipes and corresponding brake oil holder cup.
10 - positioned a fuel return line underfloor passing inside the handbrake cable fulcrum mounting bracket and clipped the same as required, opening inside the spare wheel well.
11 - fitted electronic pump mountings inside the spare wheel well as required.
12 - fabricated and welded alternate accelerator pedal and cable mountings in the firewall suitable for Mikuni carburettor so as to obtain full throttle valve opening (I can use Solex or Mikuni, the accelerator system will support both).
13 - Replaced the rear stabilizer bar to optimize handling (used forged part instead of fabricated part).
14 - starter motor overhauled with new drive gear etc, alternator had reached end of life so will fit a brand new one during engine assembly.
15 - white aluminium powder coated number plate and LHD plate blanks completed. The registration number will be hand painted on them.

Following work is in progress on the LHD car before painting:
1 - Clutch cable is removed, thoroughly cleaned and coated with masking tape to protect it from road residue and dust. Getting 3 nos clutch cables made to exact length.
2 - steering gear and steering tie rods are removed from the car, steering gear cleaned and ready for assembly. Steering gear oil drained and 220 cc of SAE120 oil filled. Backlash adjusted to specification.
3 - complete engine compartment is getting cleaned of old paint, rubberised coating, grime etc and getting treated with polyester filler which will be then hand finished before applying antirust coating and body colour paint with clear lacquer so as to give a brand new finish to the engine compartment.
4 - front suspension LC arm fulcrums are misaligned, getting changed.
5 - Maruti 800 fusebox mounting being fabricated.
6 - two grilles under polishing.
7 - "FIAT1100D" logo being mounted on the glovebox lid.
8 - alternate bonnet without the hump is getting prepared for paint.
9 - roll cage fabrication to start on BLB1144. It will then get transferred to the LHD.
10 - work on all trim including seats has started. Upholstery will be black.

Will give periodic updates.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Current status of the left hand drive is shown in the below pictures.
The work has stopped as the rollcage is supposed to come from nashik.
It has been made already.

It should be finished by the end of next week (hopefully)
