With all bodywork completed, the paint process starts. Like in the previous two jobs, a Wurth stone chip compound is applied at all exposed areas - underbody, inside the fenders, flooring etc. Hopefully it should provide some additional corrosion protection in the long run. Covers up minor imperfections too, cosmetically.

A coat of body colour goes over the stone chip.





I know, black is a boring colour, but this car has been black its whole life. Can't alter the identity now!:)

I for one don't think tis boring at all! Atleast not on older cars- best colour that suits em IMHO! But maybe not the modern aerodynamic blobs of metal!
But yes, it does take a lot of pains to maintain- unless maybe you intend to go for a rat look (which I trust you do not! :) )

Paint!

Not at all boring, love it !

i personally like the green and cream. Think a double tone suits this car. And Black! Sorry. Don't like it.

The lines look great. It will look superb with the chromed trims.

Mouth wateringly lovely Karl. Can't wait to see it. Had any luck with the steering column nacel ?

Unfortunately nothing yet. We will probably have to repair the existing one. Any leads on finding one will be most welcome.

Car looks great! I remember seeing this in Pune with you last almost 10 yrs ago. Time flies! Finally she's got her due and as usual Kaizaad has done a great job! Hopefully we get to see the final product soon.

All the hardware was galvanised, and looks good as new (these are the window winders)











The original front grille moustache was too brittle and worn out to use. A new one is made in brass identical to the original, and should hopefully last a lifetime.



I was very lucky today to receive a full set of side trims in good condition and complete, thanks to the club facebook page. This is a big relief.

Fitting continues, most of the trim are aligned and fitted. The front and rear suspension etc has gone in, brakes are set up and car is nearing completion.







This is a sample of the original interior upholstery - dark red with grey piping.


Keep in mind it has 60 years of wear and tear, so if you turn it over, the colours are suddenly shiny bright red.



While we could match the colour, so far haven't been able to match the grain - and vice versa. This is the closest match so far, but still hunting.



In the mean time the engine is rebuilt, assembled, detailed and ready for installation.



On these models to be honest I am assuming all components were painted black, from little reference I can see. Happy to be corrected if anyone knows for sure. I've seen some engine blocks in metallic gold shades etc. but I doubt those colours would be offered for the Indian market.

Yes, you're right about the engine block (and even the tappet cover, breather cap, as well as the starter and dynamo) being painted in metallic gold-ish orange on the 'home market' 10s and even early Herald 948s, and then later, on the last of the Herald 948s, all Black except for the tappet cover and breather cap; while those on the Indian models had them painted more 'conservatively' in all-Black - though AFAIK, the radiator elbow certainly wasn't painted in any colour! :)
That said, I believe it wouldn't hurt to paint atleast the tappet cover in that metallic gold shade- just so that it doesn't look too 'drab'! :)
I've done that on my Herald's, while leaving everything else on the engine Black.

Chrome plated, naturally.

The elbow and tappet cover are both from the earlier donor engine, and have been replaced. The tappet covers on the Super 10 have the oil filler mouth in the centre, unlike at the edge in the Heralds. It will remain black, I prefer it stock.

The car is finally on all fours.





Wheels and tyres go on. Wheel rim shade chosen is the familiar light yellow/cream, carried on later for Heralds as well. I have seen some period photos of cars in India with body coloured wheels as well. Maybe both options were offered, who knows. Our car rims were painted silver, definitely not correct. This yellow shade breaks the monotony, especially in a black car.

Tyres chosen were radials, since cross plies are not available anymore (locally - the import cost is prohibitive), plus the radials run so much better.

I have a question on the steering wheel colour - my car presently has a black wheel, but repainted many times. The material itself has a natural grey colour. Not sure what the original colour of the wheel should be - ivory, cream, black, khaki/brown? Any thoughts?

Does your wheel have the same shape as the Herald wheel or the early 10/8 type? Even I've seen many in Black, as well as dark brown, grey and even white! So, unless tis the original colour, my guess is as good as yours! Maybe could try enquiring from the Standard Motor Club?
