Hi, I replaced the keypad. Had ordered this online. Used a Swiss knife to remove the keypad. The ordered keypad isn't as soft as the original one. But this serves the purpose. You can try it. Found it costlier for the price quoted by the seller. But was better than going for new key.

Members of this forum, please suggest and let me know your experience moving away from a Vento TDI.
Thanks.
I was also also kind of in a similar situation. My Vento TSI is almost 11 years, 87k km run. When it entered the 10th year had a lot of thoughts to change. Realised that there is nothing under the 30L bracket that feels like a worthwhile upgrade from the Vento TSI. For a diesel car even less choices for a worthy upgrade.

At that point I took the call to do a bunch of cosmetic, functional and mechanical upgrades all from a good FNG( detailed in my ownership thread). So new HU, speakers, damping, headlights, suspension overhaul with Sachs shocks, ecu-tcu remap. Since the Vento is foundationally a solid car, upgrades really refresh it in all ways.

More niggles are popping up for sure. Replaced the compressor, and did a preventive replacement of the water pump. In my case the DSG is always a worry, but the FNG has the tools to check for the clutch life and hopefully I will have enough indications to do a preventive replacement.

All these together has costed a couple of lakhs, but I have taken the call that it is better to spend this and enjoy the experience rather than spending 30 lakhs on a car that you are not fully convinced with.

Hoping to use this car till atleast the 12-13 year mark/100-110k km mark before going for a change. Of course there maybe unforseen circumstances that force a change. Keeping that aside.

So in summary. If you like the car, don't see any good upgrades and plan to keep the car for 3-4 years,my advice is take it to a good FNG and don't hesitate to spend the money needed. It will be worth it.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

My 2012 Vento (1.6L TDI HL) is nearing 1L Kms on the ODO and still rides super good.

Recent days I am observing an increase in idling RPM from 900 to 1000, but there are NO warning lights on the dash. The increase in idling RPM is not always, but often.

I have replaced all 4 injectors within the past 20,000 kms. The car was recently serviced and has done 3000kms after it. This RPM problem was not observed before the service and not immediately after.

Need help with more insight on what could've gone wrong and what I need to do next steps.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

It’s quite common phenomenon with these cars especially during summers. I would suggest since this is intermittent and not a regular issue , keep observing as of now. My Vento also behaves similar.

Yes, absolutely. No worthy upgrades for the Vento TDi in the market currently.

Could you please share the FNG where you got all the updates done for your car, as finding the ASC charges on the higher side

I go to Engineering Exponents in Whitefield. A little unconventional set up and I am not sure if it will be cheaper in all cases. But trustworthy and quality of work is top notch.

Visited Jai Prakash on Wednesday. He did a test drive and inspected the suspension. He said it needs a complete overhaul.

Also by then my AC was becoming less effective. So had him checked that as well. He had an AC service engineer check the pressure with a gauge and said the compressor has gone kaput. He is quoting 37K for the complete AC overhaul including the condenser coil. If we skip the condenser coil, then it would be 30K.

He also suggested timing belt / chain change, which would cost 20K. He would get the timing kit that includes the water pump.

Suspension overhaul will cost 33K for Sachs and 30K for Monroe.

Overall, looks like I may have to shell out 1L.

I had another FNG check the suspension and he suggested TRW shocks. Between TRW and Sachs, which one is better?

I think all the expected issues came together for you!

I just went with what Jai Prakash suggested - Monroe. I wanted Sachs but they were never in stock. 30k kms done and I am very happy with the way the car is behaving - firm but not uncomfortable and the car is settled on the highways.

No experience with TRW though. There are some reports on TBHP but hard to compare different people's opinions with different setups.

Agreed. Got TRW. Will update this thread with my experience once I drive some significant miles.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

Looks like my 2015 Vento needs a rear suspension and steering rack overhaul, the ASS cost quoted is over 50k & I dont trust them to do a good job.

Any pointers to good FNG in Bangalore who can do the repair well? The cost is not so much the issue but quality of work and not being fleeced yes.

I do all the work on my car at Engineering Exponents, Whitefield. Worth checking if they meet your requirements. Had done the suspension overall also last year.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

My Parent’s Vento 2012 1.6 MPI AT seems to have an unfixable problem and is concerning.

The car gives a burning smell inside the cabin when under hard acceleration. It happens when the AC is off also. Since the Service center and FNGs couldn’t find a solution I went ahead and did my own trial and error fixes such as

1) Changing all the tires
2) Asked the Service center to check the clutch of the AT transmission( to which they said it’s all good and topped up the AT fluid)
3) Changed the brake discs and pads.

Still the problem persists and my parents are worried if this would lead to a fire or some other consequences. Has anyone ever faced this problem and if you did what was the fix ?

Hmmm! The only problem is I am located near JP Nagar, going to Whitefield itself is a challenge.

Any pointers around south including HSR/Koramangala?

If no other option, will have to make the trip.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

Thought of providing updates on the works done as the car had been driven for some 400 kms after.

Suspension was completely overhauled with TRW shocks, both front and back including steering rack. Total cost came to Rs. 36,700. Got the work done at a FNG nearby - Surya Motors (Bosch Service) at Pallikaranai, Chennai.

After the overhaul, I am able to feel the ride is bit stiffer, but no rear suspension noise or the thud over speed breakers. I also feel a bit of discomfort in uneven roads, sometimes, where the right and left shocks movements are felt as if they are not in sync. Probably its just my feel knowing there is a change in shocks. I am expecting the shocks to settle over a period of time as its now much better than the first ride. Fingers crossed.

I tried a maneuver that I had done multiple times, in which I navigate a 45 degree curve at a particular speed. With the new suspension it didn't feel that confident, so did it at a solid 30 kmph lesser. Again probably my perception. But certainly wanted to play safe.

Overall, the suspension work helped to drive confidently over rough patches without any problems, but the ride quality isn't plush.

Surya identified this to be a problem with a Compressor valve and not the compressor itself. So was able to fix this at Rs. 4,600.

Got this done by Surya at 21K.
