I understand the diesel would be more fuel efficient but also more expensive. From a driver viewpoint, would they be the same? What about maintenance?
Test drive both the cars before making the decision. Agreed, 1.2 TSI DSG is huge fun, and 1.6 TDI was not. but now with 1.5 TDI + DSG combo, it should be an even race of not in favour of the TDI. Now, it has everything going with it in my book.

That DSG is what will uplift the driving experience no end.

and I would suggest not to bother yourself about the reliability issues on DSG. Buy extended warranty and peace of mind along with it.

Agreed Vento is longer wheelbase- an increase of 96mm to be precise. But I do not agree that it is so cramped in the rear! Going by this logic no one should be buying polo? Shorter wheelbase does have its advantages in agility and dynamics department- No?

Regarding the reliability of DQ-200 GB, please take a look at below link- enuf has been said/discussed:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...not-india.html

I am no mechanical engineer, but to me it is a common sense, the DQ-200 GB shall be operating at its max capability for the major duration of its operation on Vento TDI. Look at the torque curve below

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attach...di-capture.png

This starts as close as 1500RPM, that's every time the turbo spools and you begin to enjoy that torque!

What would you trust a component that is 90% of its life time operating at it max rated design or a design with enough head room ? Adding to this fact that DQ-200 is not really a reliable unit- it does not need any rocket science to arrive at this conclusion...

Sorry I still stand by my suggestion, but to each his own I suppose!

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

The Polo is indeed that cramped and as someone above posted fit for only two people at a time. Having said that it is a great car for someone single or a young couple starting out or an old couple looking for a manageable vehicle or someone like me who already has sedans but is looking for an everyday workhorse that has the convenience of an automatic and "advances in agility and dynamics department".
Quite a few market segments (who have no use for the back seat) to whom the Polo appeals and lots of reasons to buy the pocket rocket. In fact if there was a two door version available, I would prefer to buy that.

Power delivery (Horse power and Torque) of automobile engines have another crucial factor to it than just 'X' HP/Torque @ 'Y' RPM. It is Throttle Position. VIZ Part Throttle Position and Full Throttle Position. Depending on the throttle position (how much the accelerator pedal has been pressed by the driver) the ecu adjusts the fueling etc to make the engine generate power.

The figures given by manufacturers are typically the output of a said engine at Full Throttle Position (the accelerator pedal pressed fully). This is the max power the engine can produce and they mention the corresponding RPM/PRM band in which this is achieved.

So, even if the engine is in its 'max torque' rpm band, it is generating torque only corresponding to the amount of power being demanded i.e position of the accelerator pedal. The engine will be producing close to half or even lesser than the rated torque when driven gently.

This can be felt during day-to-day driving. Try accelerating gently through the gears and revs. You will see very gradual power delivery. None of the 'shove in the seat' feeling. Next, stomp on the accelerator in each gear through the revs and u will feel the sudden surge in power when the engine is in its 'power band'. This difference is due to the difference in throttle position (demand for power).

Hence to state that the Vento TDI will be operating at its peak power 90% of the time would not be entirely correct unless its driven in the 'Pedal to the Metal' fashion all the time.

Coming to the reliability of the infamous DSG gearboxes, its always a big question mark. But, as far as i understand, this problem has been partly addressed by the VAG group by shifting to mineral oil in the gear box.

Regards
ASVA

P.S - What I have stated above is purely my understanding of how automobile engines work. I too am no engineer. Would appreciate any corrections from auto gurus.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

I got a chance to test drive the highline DSG TDI Vento yesterday and I should say I was very impressed with the car. The car will come with the 1.5 TDI engine whereas the manual Vento will come with the 1.6 engine until march.

As such not a lot of changes when it comes to the facelift. Not even as much as the Polo. The Vento only got some chrome on the grill, the flat bottom steering, and leatherette seats (on highline).

So the major change is really the 7 speed DSG with the 1.5 TDI. The ride is really good once the torque reaches 1500 and the turbo opens. In low torque it is a different story compared to the petrol TSI.

The on road price in Coimbatore for the comfort line is 13.02 and highline is 13.58. The wait time quoted is about 2 months for comfort line and about 4 months for the highline.

Many of you are probably aware that the Rapid will also be launching the same TDI DSG soon. The coimbatore dealer did not disclose when they will get a vehicle for a test drive and the on-road price. The price should come out a little lower and as stated the Rapid has a few additional features such as projector lamps (Halogen projectors - not Xenons) and cruise control. They will also have the black edition option which looks cool.

I will wait for a little while to get some reviews of the Vento TDI and the launch of the Rapid before deciding if I want to jump in for a TDI DSG.

Just test drove the vento diesel dsg and it's perfect car for the city route that I drove on, very relaxing and did not feel strained at all, even after I jumped from my jetta dsg to the vento dsg. No dead pedal was an unnecessary omission. All in all a nice car at the price point it's being offered.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

Went to the Volkswagen showroom in Lucknow today. Lot of 1.6 TDIs are in stock. 1L discount on comfortline and 50K on highline. The New Vento will be available but only the automatic ones. The Mts will arrive once the existing stock is over. The Konekt edition is also available with that Balpunkt system and a badge. Nothing more.

The test vehicle for 1.5 DSG will come in the first week of October, while the MT will arrive only in November. The waiting time for the new is around 2 months and will have no scheme.

But the interior of the Vento is way ahead of any other car in the segment, I must say. If one does not bother for the new steering and the double barrel headlight, the existing model is perfect, with a 1.6L engine!

Here in ghaziabad the dealer is giving one lac discount on both CL AND HL . Plus a 30000 bonus on exchange (any car any make)( but that is a sham as everybody knows ..because they evaluate the car for 30000 less and then add the "bonus " 30000 !)
BTW is the new BROWN color available the old stock ?

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

My first accident on my Vento on the way to Tindivanam from Chennai.

A moron on a Ertiga, while trying to overtake a truck on the left lane, tried to squeeze into my lane at ~100KMPH and pulled my front fender.

There was no lane-change indicator from him at that speed!

Any idea how much it will cost to replace the entire fender? Few days back, I lost the insignia on the rear of the vehicle and now this on the front side!

I do not have have Bumper-Bumper Insurance.

From the looks of it, there is very minor damage and most of it in form of broken clips. I would suggest not to disturb your insurance for this and lose the NCB. Rather go to a aftermarket garage and this would most probably be fixed in a very very nominal cost.

Hope everyone travelling with you is safe. At that speeds things can turn ugly in a fraction of a second. Drive safe.

From the pictures, the bumper doesn't look damaged or de-formed. It looks like its been yanked out of its place. Doesn't look too bad. You may not have to replace the entire fender. Probably a few retaining clips/parts and the bumper can be fixed back in place.

Just read drmohitg's reply after posting mine. I concur.

Re: Volkswagen Vento : Test Drive & Review

ASVA and drmohitg - Thanks for the quick response. I'm bothered about VW insignia in the front.
In the impact, I lost the logo and not sure how this can be replaced.

I can very well fix the fender, but the question remains if I can get a new insignia and fix it. Else it will be a "big-hole".

The VW Logo can be easily fixed into it's slot in the front grille of the Polo/Vento. It's a simple 'turn to lock' mechanism, in hindsight that is also why it's easy to nick.

It used to be available with a separate part number, less than Rs.2k, if I remember correctly. Not too sure if that's still the case though.
