I feel it's got to do with the seat design, which hardly gives any support to the lower back. I am thinking of using an extra pillow for lumbar support.
If someone knows any other solution please let me know...

I bought my polo HL around same time and almost a month back I too started having these issues. I tinkered with the seating position and it seem to have worked for me. I don't have back pain now and the stiffness in right foot is also gone, irrespective of how long I'm driving. Though I still could not solve for the exhaustion from driving in delhi traffic. :)

I can share how I went about my setup and maybe it could be of help.
  1. Push back the seat as far as possible and then slowly bring it forward till the time you can reach the pedals comfortably. First make sure that the right foot is placed comfortably and there is relaxed movement for shifting from B to A and then foot rest. In case of polo, clutch has very long travel and so you may have to adjust for having the left foot in air for some time during release. In my case, I was trying to avoid that and in turn putting my right foot too close to accelerator. And hence, the shifting from B to A to foot rest was causing stiffness. Also, do make sure that you don't have to reach out to the clutch when its completely pressed.
  2. Start from the lowest point of seat height and raise it to a level where you can have a good view of the road without the RVM blocking your front view. Btw sitting low in polo is quite fun, I actually felt the car to be more responsive due to low CG. But you'll have to find the right balance for yourself.
  3. Adjust the back so that your shoulders and the entire lower back remain in contact at all times while driving. You may have to sit a little straight to ensure that. Initially it may feel awkward but you'll get used to it. I had the back slightly too inclined and ended up slouching while driving with an acute lower back pain.
  4. And the last step should be to adjust the steering. Just make sure that you don't have to reach out for the steering both upwards and forward. It should be comfortably far away at a reasonable height. You should be able to hold the steering at 3 and 9 without feeling any pain in arms or at the shoulder. Shoulders should be in contact with the back rest at almost all points of steering movement. For e.g., almost at the end of the video, look at how he moves the steering without his shoulders leaving the backrest

I would recommend going about in the same order to get the right setup. And in case you have already done some of this then its best to look for support of some kind or maybe some professional help.

I understand your problem. There were a few suggestions to my query when it was posted and all of it was about the seat settings. A combination of both height setting as well the recline position should help alleviate your situation. I feel much much better with support for the back as well the thighs. Please refer to those replies and this could really help.

Though i agree there is no lumbar support like in the City or the Punto.

The Volkswagen dealership in Guwahati has closed down recently and there is no news of another one opening up. The dealership and service centre was the only one in the entire north east India. So I guess we are now stuck with our Volkswagens.

Hello jay3sh,

Could you please share your mileage of your Polo 1.2 MPI.
Since am in Bangalore, and daily driving in bumper to bumper traffic will be around 15Kms. And monthly one trip to home town, which is around 700Kms up & down.
Just want to re-assure myself that petrol is sufficient for my running.

Volkswagen and Skoda are notorious for ditching their customers and closing dealerships at their whims and fancies. If one dealership is closing down it should be the parent company's duty and responsibility to provide alternative dealership in the same location to cater to their existing customers. It surely leaves bad taste in the mouth to be at the mercy of one's vehicles especially if there is no news of alternative dealership cum service centre in sight.
You can try to get it serviced in Siliguri. I also recollect one private garage in VIP Road, Guwahati which specialises in Volkswagen cars.

VW dealerships in Chennai are on the increase! :D

Pranjal 1984 it is not possible to get it serviced at Siliguri as of now, but do you have any more information about the private garage in VIP road? I was very happy to have a VW polo but now I am seriously regretting my decision.

Ankan, it is somewhere opposite Rahman Hospital. Forgot the exact name of the garage. But I remember visiting there in 2013 regarding a painting job of my Polo. I could see a lot of VW cars parked there for service. You can go there and enquire.

Hey Thanks! Actually I work in Sikkim so will ask some one from my home to check it out. I am from Chandmari and we have a polo 1.2 cl in white. Hope this Garage works out.

I did my last tankful yesterday and the mileage came out to be 12.43km/l from the last tank fill. You can consider my polo was driven 50%(trip to Nandi hills 2 times) and 50 percent inside BLR traffic.

There is a separate thread for fuel efficiency you may check that.

Hi redbaron91,
Expect single digit figures 6 - 8 kmpl in 100% driving on bad bumper to bumper, on roads with decent movement where you possibly get to engage higher gears expect 12.something kmpl. On your highway trips with good driving practices with speeds between 80-110 expect something between 15-17 kmpl. At times however when I get to drive early mornings on empty highway of Pune to Solapur I have achieved in between 19-20 kmpl. All above figures are when I drive alone, which is the case most of the times.

Cheers!

Hey redbaron91 really sorry to barge into your question, but thought of sharing some of my input here:

- If you have finalised that VW Polo is your next car, PERSONALLY I would suggest you to go with the TDI. Safety is one of the USPs of Polo and that 1.5 TDI engine is best in City & Highway.

- Space is probably not the best part of Polo, but if its <3 occupants >90% of the time, this car can really make you appreciate German engineering.

- If you are looking at good NVH, light clutch and less running, you must really consider Grant I10, Swift or even Baleno Petrol. All of these offer excellent & much better Petrol engines than the 1.2 MPI from VW.

- Lastly, any day Diesel engine will offer much better FE than any Petrol engine, irrespective of the drive, driver or situation.

So you have the the best judge here and pick the one which ticks most important/vital boxes for you. :thumbs up

Hi Pranjal1984! Thank you so much for your help. Got the polo serviced there today. The cost came to around Rs 6500 including labour. I am not in Ghy right now but folks at home told me the work was good. Thanks again :)

Glad to help ankan. Its nice knowing you are able to get your Polo serviced in that place without worry.

Hello vik0728

Thanks mate for your feedback. Guess I’m a good listener, so your feedback was not a barge into my query. :)

Firstly, I had booked a car back in March-2015, which was done in a hurry. It was MS Baleno Diesel. Waiting period was informed as 6-7 months. Booking was done with lot of dilemma in mind owing to its driving dynamics & light weight construction. Once the NCAP results were out and “not-so-good” feedback from FEW owners, I made my mind to go for another car.

With more analysis & thoughts, I found my daily commute will never go beyond 20Kms with moderate to heavy B2B traffic. Considering this fact, I believe I can keep a petrol car happily without making big hole in my pocket.

This understanding led me to scout other cars, like Ford Ecosport, & VW Ameo. I hope both Ameo & Polo will have more or less same characteristics, due to which I took the TD of Polo Petrol.

The comfort features, safer body shell, (loved the way the Polo shuts it’s doors), best drivability attracts me towards Polo’s sibling, Ameo. While the big airy cabin, seating ergonomics, and large proportions of Ecosport grabbed my attention too. Unless VW tweaks their MPI engine for better FE, I think, both Ecosport & Ameo will give same FE in city conditions.

So as you said, I’ve to make my mind soon and pick the best one which suits me.
