I have a Polo petrol, bought last August and driven 1000km till now. I have had a very pleasant experience with it so far :)

It has very good ride and handling. I feel fully in control of the vehicle, specially due the steering which gives quick and accurate response. It gives an average of 15 to 16 in the city and more than 18 on highways.

Thank you @vivek, does the polo really return that good a fuel economy? Pardon my surprise, but the company website lists 16.47 expected fuel economy, and usually the real world FE is a few notches below the company claimed figures.

15-16 in city is pretty ok in my books. If that's the case I might seriously consider the petrol polo.
The polo is by far the most well designed car in the segment. I'd love to own a Polo if the fuel economy is as good as you mentioned. My current concern with the polo is only the regular city fuel economy. Sadly can't afford the TDi or the GT, so have to stick to petrol polo highline.

Well, its been 6 months of ownership for me (Polo petrol) and the highest FE that I could get was 14. And that's when I did a fair share of driving at 70-80 kmph. Nowadays, with bumper to bumper traffic, I'm clocking around 13.

Mods, apologies for back to back post. I was trying to edit my earlier post but couldn't around to do it in time.

Low-end torque makes it easy for city driving and you can pull through at even third gear. Its definitely not an enthusiast sort of car but still keeps you happy. Such is the driving pleasure that I long to get behind the wheels as soon as I get out.

And as someone earlier mentioned, power is good enough for our city roads and highways. If you do come around to buying a polo petrol, I'd urge you to buy the Highline version. You'll not get fancy features but it has everything that you'll require for comfortable driving.

May i ask you how are the traffic conditions in your driving cycle? :Shockked:
I struggle to get more than 13 in Bangalore for mine. The same is the case with many other petrol polo owners i know.

That's because I mostly drive alone to office. Traffic conditions I travel in area mostly similar to yours. With 4 people and some luggage in the car it gives a mileage of about 10 to 11.

Just FYI, the VW dealer at Satara (100km south of Pune) was offering a flat discount of about 35,000 on the Polo Highline.
Also no issue of availability. This might be applicable for petrol only, not sure. But if anyone is interested that could be a nice deal and Satara isn't far away from Pune.

Mileage in the city differs and I normally get around 12-13 kmpl in Bangalore as I try to avoid peak hour traffic and drive light to moderately-footed. I am not sure even a swift or a brio manages 16 kmpl in a bumper-to-bumper traffic. Fuel efficiency in the highways depends on the way you drive. I got more than 18 kmpl on few instances in the past when I drove with no aggressive acceleration and maintained reasonable speeds. It is only during an uphill ascent / gradient / mountainous terrain, you will see the power lacking and would have to downshift (especially while a Zdi zooms by!). That said polo petrol is a nice and a bit-noisy car that handles large corners like very small ones and smaller slopes inclines as large ones!

You are comparing apples to oranges here, a zdi is Maruties diesel trim while you are talking about a Polo in the petrol guise. Diesels have higher torque than patrols and therefore accelerate or pull better. Even I drive a 5 month old Polo tdi highline and the mileage figures are keeping me very very happy.

In Bangalores traffic I almost always get around 20kmpl and on the highways I get 24 to 25. I guess VW needs to takes both the Polos to ARAI again as their claimed figures I feel are very less.

Sorry - that would be zxi. thanks for pointing out. :thumbs up

But still wouldn't a Polo petrol be able to pull better than a zxi as its torque is coming in at lower rpms, especially in the situations that you have mentioned. Maybe you need to downshift and not stay on the same gear as before approaching an incline and lugging the engine in the process.

Hi Guys a fellow Polo owner here, but in the GT guise. Was just passing by the VW Showroom here my place here, Mumbai North & happened to spot this. The new Polo in a Toffee Brown shade. Picture for proof.stupid:

Hope this helps prospective buyers.

Cheers,
Sid.

I have got a fine 2-yr-old GT TDI fot the cost of a new TOTR i10. Actually, picking from the bottom of the Polo range, one could get a VW cheaper than the top i10. And, if I remember rightly, it still has air bags, ABS and a body that makes a person feel [relatively] safe.

But if you want performance, look at the GTs: my 1.6 petrol Highline (2011 model) was a slouch compared to the 1.6 GT TDI. It is only my second day with the car, and I am having to give myself driving lessons: Whoa! gently with that clutch, Mr G, and no, you do not need to rev like that when starting off. In fact, you can keep your foot off the gas pedal! That would have stalled the old Polo.

Smitten? Yes, I know what you mean. I felt so let down by VW being unable/unwilling to repair and recover my car after the flood. I swore never again. But somehow, I didn't even get around to test-driving those other cars.

Thad, congratulations on getting your Polo GT TDI! :thumbs up

I thought you had given up on Volkswagen after the way the company had (mis)treated you and your earlier car, but I guess the Polo's charms proved to be too irrestible in the end. And apart from a little clatter at lower rpms, that 1.6 litre diesel motor really is a torque monster! I'm glad you made an excellent choice that satisfies both your heart and head, instead of letting the previous bad experience affect your car buying decision.

Another advantage of getting a Polo - that Polco tyvek car cover you had purchased earlier can still be put to good use. :)

Thank you! You had better also offer sympathy to no_boundaries for having passed on a car for which he had lots and lots of love.

Yes, and Yes. I had also decided that a second-hand car (or even a new car that could have been in a local stockyard at the time) was an absolute no-no, post-Chennai-flood. So what did I do? ha-ha... went out and bought a second-hand Volkswagen.

The flood hit us hard, emotionally, mentally and, of course, financially. Whilst the insurance settlement for my blue Polo seemed like a fair deal (perhaps I wouldn't of got much more for it if I had been selling it undamaged) it came nowhere near compensating me for not having the car to drive for the next five years or more. But, with a cash outlay of around 3 lakh, I was able to buy a car that, new, on-the-road, would have meant adding six lakh or more to the insurance settlement. Could not do that; not if I want to eat for the rest of my retired life!

I had narrowed down to a few strong possibilities, one or two were even quite sensible, lower-price new cars. I'd surfed the forums here, and even entered into some discussion, but somehow I did not have any enthusiasm to actually get started with the whole test-drive and buying cycle. I was not in a hurry. Wanted to see those maybe-flooded stockyards emptied, and also what new features might be announced in two or three months. Was also getting quite lazy, and, released from haggling by Ola, enjoying being ferried around by auto drivers!

Then I saw the advert for no_boundaries' VW, and somehow it felt meant-to-be.

Good decision? It feels good right now. Ask me again in five years' time and, god-forbid but quite likely, after another flood or two!

Indeed, indeed! Yes, you know you're driving a diesel, especially when the engine is cold. Feature list is better than my 2011 model, but build quality is a bit lighter --- or do they make the body lighter to compensate for the weight of the engine maybe. Anyway, I'm going to add some deadening/dampening materials

Absolutely! It has become a bit ragged, what with cats sleeping on it for the last few months, but. given that the car is under a car port, it is still absolutely sufficient. I'm glad I kept it! I'm sorry I didn't take my 3-D mats out of the old car (Although the VW-supplied rubber mats are, actually, very good indeed) but hey... I never expected to be owing another Polo!

The FE claims by VW for Polo and the onroad experience is quite surprising. clap: I drive down from Kandivali to Andheri every day now for the last 7 - 8 months in my Polo Petrol. I get around 13 - 14 kmpl during the office time commute.

However on joyrides during weekends I have hit upto 22 kmpl on the same car. Sharing a pic when I was waiting at the sealink toll with the odo stating 19.8 kmpl. Cheers. :thumbs up

The car seen testing in India wore a TDI badge indicating that India will get the special edition based on the standard Polo. However, it is not known if the more powerful GT series will get the Allstar edition. The car also sported the same wheels as the Polo Allstar showcased at the Geneva motor show, though the feature list is not known
