Brilliant review tsk!

I had my mind set on this car - just loved the looks of it. Hopefully when I TD it, it will charm me enough to take away concerns of the GC, turbolag etc.

Guy at TRV dealer reckons the price might now be 13.8 OTR.

Just one question - when you press the start/stop button, is there a noticeable time lag before the engine starts up?

one question. can the key less entry thing be turned off? i mean what if your garage is next to your hall and the key is within 6 feet of the parked car?

Fantastic review. How did you manage to calculate levels like 'g'. beautiful pictures. Though majority at night. No video ? I guess, high time TBHP includes videos in review too.

GC is not so decent for indian speed breakers. I am quite disappointed on the turbo lag. Would be a pain to drive on roads with traffic where one needs to overtake a lot.

Awesome review Tanveer. Must say Awesome pics. The interiors look brilliant especially at night ! I hope this car does well. Any idea about service intervals which GM might offer for this car?( compared to competition)

Excellent review

The interiors look awesome. Let's see how GM-India prices it and how the market receives it. Karl Slym has done quite a bit to impress the Indian customers. Hope he gets rewarded with decent sales numbers.

First of all this is an awesome review. Good work TSK.

My question here is: Is the turbo log so bad that even a Pete's box or RD ECU cannot help in bumper to bumper traffic? Wont getting one of these fitted help driving in B2B traffic?

Great Scott!! I regularly drive a NA Indica within city limits & know what it feels like (no turbo only lag ) , that statement certainly takes the sheen out of the CRUZ, coz in todays "Nano" times bumper to bumper traffic is the order of the day in any Metro/City/Town. Coupled with a heavy clutch (acquired in 7500 km) with aggressive reverse action this car is certainly not going to be a driver's delight in the City. Limited leg/head/shoulder room in the rear coupled with average interior materials quality means that you won't like being chauffered in the car either. So this is typically the car that you take on the weekend trip to your private farmhouse off the highway bypass outside the city limits. But even in this scenerio a meagre 450 litre boot means that you will also have to trouble the chauffer on weekend overtime to bring your spare car (maybe a SX4 with the 505 ltr boot) to haul your rugsacks, lunch boxes , b**r crates et al.

All said and done, this car should be a great bargain for 13.5 lacs. Civic equalling GC levels shouldn't be much of a put-off for the buyers in this segment.

p.s. I simply love the tool kit arrangement

Expect fiat to launch the linea with a 1.6 MJD. The only difference between the linea and the Cruze is displacement and the kit offered for the chevy.
It is logical that a buyer who wants a diesel engine will either go for a Skoda Laura, the Cruze, the Octavia or the Linea.
If I were to spend 14, I'd prefer a laura -- better interiors, excellent ride quality, multi-link rear suspension and a good build quality. Who would spend 13+ on a Chevy that feels Daewooish? I mean look at the detailing -- the head-lamp reflectors to the visible tail-lamp bulbs, the power-window switches, boot-lid that is not hydraulically actuated..
You are right IF i were to compare these cars on a drag-strip, but I'm not here to do that

The Cruze is also known as a 'Daewoo Lacetti Premiere' in South Korea. Let this not fool you into thinking that this car is a 'Daewoo'. It's based on the GM delta-II platform on which the New Opel Astra will also be built.
Cars based on the Delta-II platform will compete against the ford focus (C based platform) and the Jetta/ new Octavia (PQ-35/36) in international markets.
The C based platform from Ford is quite identical to the VW group PQ series platform -- both have an identical suspension setup. The Delta-II uses a torsion bar setup at the rear. I think GM likes to call it the compound crank axle; which is a torsion bar with a watts linkage -- this setup allows the car to have softer bushes which should isolate road noise and improve ride quality.
The car should be stiff an safe unlike other Chevys sold in India which were based on ancient tin-stamped platforms.

The headlamp reflectors, visible taillight bulbs etc. are all design elements and what might look not-so-good to you may look totally cool and unique to me. Beauty as they say is in the eyes of the beholder!

After all the horror stories I have heard about Skoda how anyone on 'this' forum can still contemplate buying one is totally beyond me?

I would have bought a Skoda 1.8TSI had it not been for team-bhp and I'm thankful to team-bhp for it. Skoda, are you listening?

True. I had a great belief in Skoda until I joined this forum. The more I read about them, further I go away from them. I had made up my mind of buying Superb 1.8 TFSI since it was the best value for money car in it's segment (making you feel like you're sitting in a 40L car) but decided against it. Their customer service is at all time low. No wonder Skoda has some of the world's finest automobiles in their segment, but their A.S.S. overshadows their good work.

consumercomplaints.in
Search for Skoda.......Make up your mind.

The problem is Skoda is doing this to their elite customers who are shelling 15-20 lacs per car.

Certainly its way too much. I know the pain of poor resale value after owning a GM car. I have decided to not to recommend anyone at least in Coimbatore where I was deeply disappointed with the service I received. My three years with them was restless.

If GM wants to come up with better branding, they need to invest on better service network, more sales and service dealers every where to give buyers confidence.

11 OTR for the top end diesel would be great if they can pull it off. I doubt if it would be that cheap.

Again depends on where you are. 13L OTR in Bangalore would be a great price for top end diesel (cheaper than top end Altis & Civic). Its better to talk about Ex-Showrooms. (11L ex for the top end Diesel would be the right price).
