The only solace for existing Cruze owners is :-

1. Existing Cruze still retains the 0-100kmph dash title

2. Existing Cruze still retains the top-speed title

Apart from above, the new engine is much more improved in terms of driveability, NVH and extracting a better FE due to improvements on the clutch system as well

It indeed missed a 6th gear during long cruises and they solved that problem too.

Overall, it was a great and proactive move from GM to introduce a refreshed Cruze so early after its initial release ( 3 years is early by all standards especially for an engine revamp despite present engine being equally potent)

Iam happy that new owners will get a better car.

Should we all go for a trade-in?

Hmmm.... interesting.
So the summary's driven flat-out, the old Cruze is faster, but in-gear acceleration times are faster on the newer one. It's a fair-trade, if you ask me... 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

All I can say is I was stalling on getting my RD box fitted. Now suddenly I find myself checking to see if I've got a couple of free hours this Saturday.

I bought my Cruze LT Aug 2011. I've clocked 22,000 kms so far. Absolutely love the car with no problems so far except a minor niggle. I live in Chennai so the temperature has hovered around 40 over the last couple of months. The outside temperature shows around 40 which is accurate but once the automatic climate control kicks in (usually set the inside temperature at around 20) the outside temperature reading keeps rising until it shows 50! Does anyone else have this problem? This is just an irritant and in no way takes away my sheer diving pleasure.

I drive 70% highway and 30% city, and luckily until now I've heard no noise while braking nor has my service engineer recommended a change in brake pads. I drive slowly in the city (traffic!!) and between 100 and 120 on the highway sometimes rarely hitting 140 for brief periods.

Hope I don't have to change brake pads until much later.

Recently one of my relative bought Cruze and I was talking abt the new Cruze. To my surprise he said, his car is the new model with the tweaked engine. He bought the car sometime last month and want to know from the forum whether the new Cruze is out already ?. How we can identify whether the car is the new model or the old one ? Is there any exterior difference ?

Can any of the Cruze owners in this forum share their ownership cost ?

The new cruze will be launched tomorrow. In all probability, your relative must be referring to "new" cruze with the jet black interiors. GM released that version sometime last year. Only the interiors were "tweaked".

Even so you car differentiate the two cars by looking at the engine bay. They look radically different.

If it has the electric seats, its the 2012 model, else your relative might be referring to the 2011 black interiors upgrade.

"GM is coming out with a new Cruze on June 29. The updated car will have a 164PS engine (up from 150PS) with 380Nm (up from 323Nm) of torque at disposal. This engine is mated to an all-new 6-speed manual/automatic transmission. The new Cruze will have improved driveability, linear power delivery and the most important part – increase in fuel efficiency. These claims will be verified once we put the new car through the rigours of our OVERDRIVE road test.
There are minor revisions to the exteriors like the new fog lamps, the Chevy badge being pushed a tad higher on the bonnet and choice of new design alloy wheels. The interior revisions will include more cubby holes and two-tone upholstery. GM is expected to price the new Cruze between Rs 12-16 lakh."

Yes. From reports that have been doing the rounds, the headroom at the back has been increased substantially.

Though I am happy that GM made a proactive move in upgrading an already potent engine, I was afraid of what they may price and my fears have come true. Cruze prices have risen substantially from the time of its release in 2009.

2.86 Lakhs increased on ex-showroom Delhi price for LT

2.32 Lakhs increased on ex-showroom Delhi price for LTZ Manual

And, above is only for ex-showroom Delhi. And these prices increase by a lakh or more as you move south of India.

Therefore, a simple analogy is for the price of LT you most people have bought an LTZ in the past

Along with addressing its downsides, they should have also added some additional gizmos/safety equipment to make the price increase justifyable for the normal indian buyer.

I am not sure if its a good indication considering the sales have been consistently dipping across this segment and these prices surely will not help boost more sales

Anyways, only time well tell how it fares in sales figures.
