Hi friends I needed to know that should i get the whole engine oil replaced for my punto which has done 2500KMS? Selenia WR is costing 3500 something here in delhi @ him? Please suggest I would have gone for it hands down if cost wasnt an issue. The mechanic suggested not to coz acc to him Fiat must have thought of something before setting 15K kms for that though he did agreed with me on the need to change it after the run in? Am thoroughly confused. Also the Alignment of my car seems a bit out sterring stays a bit on left for it to go straight though. Him motors dont have alignment parameters for punto yet. Is it because of clutch slave cylinder. Please put your inputs. Thanks.

We had the engine oil changed for our punto (3000 KM). They too suggested to wait for till had done 15000KM, but we had it changed it anyway.

BTW it costed 1200-1500 for 5 lts of engine oil, and not Rs 3500.

@krreddy : something is DEFINITELY wrong

Synthetic oil is recommended for Punto and there is NO WAY you can get 5 litres of synthetic oil for Rs.1200 - 1500. The recommended oil is Selenia WR 5w-40. Please go through the car manual carefully.

I had also changed my Punto's oil @ 3000 km and I was charged Rs.3200

Your service station has most probably used "semi-synthetic" engine oil.

Please go back to your service station and get the issue resolved.

What's a good tyre upgrade from the GT3 for the Punto ?

Will the Turanzas be better than the GT3's in terms of road grip, braking and ride comfort ?

I had got the GT-3's swapped with Michelin Primacy LC's. Drove the GT-3's for around 1000KM. Always wanted Michelins hence swapped them and got a great bargain in the process (the tyre showroom treatet the GT-3's equivalent to new tyres). After the change noticed quite a difference in road noise, suddenly the car was quite less noisy over rough roads. Road grip, ride comfort, rolling resistance are all great, primacy LC's have been designed for that. Good option for a change of tyres.

Physicspsyche, the manufacturer has clearly laid down the recommended intervals for oil change, why do you want to alter that routine? Your SA is right in suggesting to get it done at 15k.

@ Above
Because i read somewhere on the forum that the New engine's leftover after run in "the Silver particle" to be precise keeps getting accumulated in the Engine hence oil change is necessary after the run in. But Fiat says opposite and it has been found in one of linea's post that owner did noticed silver particles after 1K run in when he got the oil changed. Hence i want to carry this discussion a bit forward to know what to do?

Physicspsyche, in the Technical Stuff on this forum, go through threads like "Synthetic Vs. Mineral" and "Should synthetic Oil be used". After reading these threads carefully, you should not have a doubt as to why Fiat has asked for a extended period for change of oil. Please do understand that these figures have been reached after extensive testing and are not just the whim of the manufacturer. Finding silver particles is bound to happen and it is not that finding those "particles" is going to render the engine useless. Please read through the threads suggested above to understand it better.

FIATians: Check out this pic of a parking space outside a Mall in Italy.

PUNTO dominating the parking space.

Found the pic in this thread.

wow!

The only surprising thing , all those Puntos are wearing same dress ( read white ) except one ( black ) . Isn't that surprising ? I suppose this is what is called a fashion parade where the theme is same!

Secondly this must be a recent photograph as I can spot one Punto Evo ( left most vehicle in the frame ) . I didn't know that Evo has already made it to individual parking.

One more thing to be noticed is the black door handles on all the white dressed cars.
