That is correct. I'm also talking about an average speed of 65+ Kmph only. The Ic will in fact show most of the time above 30+. I also manage this (25 Kmpl average) even in single lane highways, where there are lot of trucks and tempos, however average speed falling below 55 Kmph in that case. BTW, I set the auto climate temperature to 25 C whenever I do on highway. But, speed breakers consume a lot of fuel as I have to brake and then throttle to make up the time. Please do let me know if you see any significant improvement after following what I had described in my previous post.

opendro,

I believe nav75's claimed mileage is good considering he has 1.4 petrol Punto.

I believe you have a diesel Linea. Hence the higher difference in FE

2. One of the FIAT technicians in Pune (closely involved with FIAT) told me about 1.6 petrol engine being on test. It would be the same GTX engine with tweaks.
Neo, if this is true then i guess i might have to put a hold on my plans to book the 1.4 GP.. cant stop imagining the GP zooming with a 1.6..
Hope it comes out with the a sports tag..

@opendro: As bhagathgowda has said, hope we are not comparing FE of a 1.4petrol Punto with Diesel Linea.

I think I read in some auto magazine that the engine will be reworked to pump out about 106-108bhp but with tightening emission norms I don't know how they will achieve that.

If they maintain 100bhp then it wouldn't be as much fan as the Palio due to weight differences. Palio's weigh about 1086kgs (Stile variants are still lighter) while the Punto is a heavy 1150kgs.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what FIAT-India plans to roll out under the GP & Linea..
Hope its not a disappointment..

Hi Amit,

From what I heard, these 1.6 engines are manufactured in China by Fiat. I do not think this has anything to do with the present 1.6 engine in Stile. If I remember correctly, this is a new engine. You are right about the 106-108 bhp.

Yeah, the Punto may be no fun as of Palio, lugging with 1150kgs but a few BHP more would suffice the need.

So does that mean Palio Stile 1.6 Sports gets another new BIV life after the BIII norms tenure ends next year?

As one of the dealer manager and FIAT seniors maintained Stile 1.6 Sports is here to stay..I pray it does!

Cheers~

You mean to say they will import it in India? If it is the case then what is the use of RJNgaon plant? I guess these will be locally made.

The plant is India is committed only for 1.4P and 1.3D engines. I remember reading that Fiat will import the 1.6P engines from China. It was a news item I read some 2 years back. I have no idea if things have changed now.

The 1.6 engine which did duty in the GTX/S10 and Stile pumped out 100 PS in India. The same engine made in Turkey, Brazil etc. belted out 120 PS so my guess is that the new 1.6 can easily give 110 PS even after de-tuning for Indian fuel etc.

I too think the engine will be most probably imported as it does not make sense to build the 1.6 engine in India considering the low volumes.

Cheers,

How come no mention of the latest 1.6 MJD? Isn't that the pick of all the engines at the moment?

Many people have complained about the gear play in Punto, but there hasn't been any conclusion on this issue so far.

BTW, congrats for your 1.4 Punto. Please post a detailed ownership review for your petrol fire engine, there aren't too many here on Team-BHP.

Pete's tuning box is now avaliable for the Punto and i20. Punto gets 90bhp while i20 gets 110bhp.
