But mine is a petrol 1.4L with 1148 kg of kerb weight and 100% AC on. :)This is close to alto FE and there wasn't many cars that overtook me.

I am about to ask a rather silly question here: the latest gen punto petrol 1.2, has a clearance of 195 mm while the diesel I think, is 185mm (post 2012). These are great clearances: I own a Punto 1.2 myself, and over the last 2.5 years have scraped may be 2 times, that too because I was at more than usual speeds. While pampering my car, I thought what the heck: lemme check! Let me put it this way: there are many locations under the car, which would be far far lesser than the claimed 195mm. Or even 185mm. I have measured a point as close as 134 mm (rear wheel suspension points), some may be 160mm. But, to the learned forum members, where do I "measure" the 195/185mm clearance?please: Or am I missing something here?

I am not sure I could test on the roughest of roads or terrain, where 195mm could be put to test. Fellow Bhpian roy_libran, with his "deep" (Pun intended?) 4x4 / off-roading experience, felt the 195mm claim "could" have some fine print associated. Which, I am assuming, FIAT "forgot to print" maybe? (Sue the printer/vendor!) Slips like these from FIAT are not unheard of :uncontrol!

Who can shed light on this?

20 kmpl avg is quite remarkable when the ARAI rating for highway for Punto 1.4 petrol is just 13 kmpl!

Have you confirmed this using tankful method?

Hi,

While you are at it, please check the lowest point between the front and rear wheels. I have a feeling that while the lowest point would well be directly under the front or rear axles, ground clearance is taken as the lowest point between these.

please: Has any Punto owner felt the need (or got done anyway) for a periodic/routine suspension overhaul/ suspension check-up and lube job? Is it even necessary or does the suspension have periodic maintenance components? This is a very grey area for me and there is nothing clearly chalked out for the Grande Punto. In general, does it make sense to re-torque all nuts and fasteners from time to time? What should be a reasonable cost for the job, considering both front and rear would be done?

Re-torquing is always a good idea and even more so given our road conditions. I get this done during the routine service for all of my vehicles and have never been charged anything. This because it is indeed one of the jobs that is a part of routine service but one that is seldom done unless the mechanic is competent or the customer demands it.

Anyhow as far as Fiat is concerned, Oberoi motors in sector 63(or is it 61) Noida do this for every vehicle that comes in for service, this per my observation during my two visits to their shop floor.

Quite a lot of threads on T-BHP have inspired us, who are taking baby steps at car detailing to give it a go. Considering this I thought I should give my old girl, my 5 year old 2009 Punto some pampering. She had not been waxed for about 3 months now & I was feeling guilty whenever I got a chance to drive her, now that it is my wife's ride.

Anyways got to admit, reading through this forum I knew my limitations & restricted myself to just shampooing & waxing rather than going the whole nine yards of multi-step detailing as prescribed by the gurus on T-BHP :D

I have been using ABRO car wash & wax shampoo for a while and the results have been quite satisfactory hence bought myself a 'ABRO-Carnauba Car Wax Super Gold Liquid' to try out. Results are here for all to see.

Yes, I take a lot of pain to keep her glowing the way she does. Its getting harder as she ages, Bangalore's pollution & dust levels not helping matters either. I shall keep it going :)

70k review of Punto 1.3 MJD Epk 2009

Last servicing done at Balaji motors - Thane
Cost approx 36k

Present issues:
1. Glow plugs check sign during starting
2. MID gone kaput - informed that the cost of replacement is 13k
3. Front suspension sounds during turns.
4. Loose contact in the driver side brake light assembly
5. Gears are a bit hard to slot sometimes.

a_myth you paid INR 36k for 70,000 service of a 2009 Punto ?? :Shockked:

That is the kind of price my family member pays during the service of his Passat dude. :eek:

After the service you still have all those issues which you have listed there or am I missing something here ??

My Oct 2009 Punto is currently at 70K. Her last service was at 65K where all fluids were changed, cost was 10K.

Please post a breakup of your costs or the bill - 36K is way too high for a regular service.

The Front suspension sounds during turns could be due to suspension mounts ( elastic pads as Fiat call it ).

I'm also having this problem with hard gear slotting, and the ASC told me to change the gear cable and clutch kit that I didn't agree to. Most likely I will get the gear cable lubricated in the next service that should work out cheaper.
