Re: Fiat Grande Punto : Test Drive & Review

There seems to be some issue with the door sensors; doors are not getting locked using remote, though all doors/boot are shut. Did anybody faced such issues.

My car had this problem. Its something to do with the door locking Electro-Mechanical Solenoid. Each door mechanism costs a whopping INR 1500/- bucks. I just got the mechanisms cleaned with WD40 at TASS instead of going for replacement.

Thanks MCR.. but all the doors are getting locked with the key, while locking with the remote fails( blinks twice on locking, as if some door is not closed properly)

Anyways, hoping those mechanism also are covered under 2yrs original warranty.

I had once faced this.
They replaced the locking unit with a new one under warranty.

1000 kms done with our Punto and so far so good. The only grouse is the interior quality, after coming from the i20 it really feels dirty cheap, even our old Swift has better quality materials. Will be posting a detailed initial ownership report once I get the time.

I'd recommend a good dashboard polish. Makes a big difference to the interiors, although the mis-aligned glove box is still a real shame in such a premium hatchback.

Yes, the manual locks work since they are actuated by the key. But while using the remote, the Electro-Mechanical mechanism actuates the lock. It will be covered under warranty.

My car was out of warranty hence just got the mechanisms cleaned.

For 90HP - 100kmph comes up exactly at 2500 rpm, 120 kmph at 3000rpm and 140 kmph at 3500rpm. Max power is developed at 4000rpm if i remember correctly.

I guess this should be the same for the 75HP version too, as the same ratios are used.

Thanks CD. Was wondering if the Punto Sports 2012 has different ratios than the current 90HP/75HP.

2500 for 100 is quite high. Atleast for the 5th gear something around 2200 rpm for 100 and and 2700 for 120 should be good.

Or simply they should have included a 6th gear as a complete overdrive to help mileage.

FIAT please get the gearbox used in Europe atleast in the next upgrade.

This is one of the common issues. Please get the latch/sensor replaced. I had this problem with the left rear door.

The Sports trim on the 90HP is the same old 90HP, unchanged mechanically. There are just some cosmetic add-ons like the stickering job, chrome pedals, chrome exhaust and differently colored mirrors (red car with black mirrors and stickers and vice versa). No changes to the gear ratios at all.

I just took a TD of the 90HP Sports this Saturday, as a possible alternative to my Swift ZDi booking which is in hung state now (thanks to the strike/lockout at Manesar). I must say I liked the Punto sports TD very much.

As far as I know, only the 1.2 petrol Active variant has 195mm. The MJD Dynamic, MJD/FIRE Emotion and MJD Emotion 90HP (now called Sport) variants all have 185mm ground clearance.
