Re: Fiat Grande Punto : Test Drive & Review

Is it an issue with the ECU not recognising the key. I think there is a warning light on the dash that shows whether the immobiliser is active or not. Have you checked that??

Re: Fiat Grande Punto : Test Drive & Review

Yes I feel that is the exact problem. The Warning light which looks like "a car locked by a huge lock" stays on instead of disappearing. after 3-4 attempts to start the car, it switches off and the car starts.

I'll take it this weekend to the A.S.S

Re: Fiat Grande Punto : Test Drive & Review

^^ Does the car crank? If not then it most likely is the key code which is not being recognised by the ECU.

I agree and must add, a better / faster 90 BHP variant, to your statement. Fiat should have realised that the Punto was never going to be a mass market product. Hence, target it to the enthusiasts who rank power high on the list.

Number of Days(till today) : 175
Kms /day : 56.29

Now the problem:
Every morning the car fails to start during the first crank.
Agreed with Fiat Tarun. Can you try starting it with the spare key? I suspect the ECU is unable to communicate with your key.

I haven't tried with the spare key. I'll try it next time if this problem pops up. BTW, Today, she started at the first turn of the key.

If this is the "communication" problem...will the ECU programme be flashed again or will I have to get the Key replaced? the latter is very slow I've heard because the keys come from Italy.

Re: Fiat Grande Punto : Test Drive & Review

It should not start with the spare key at all. The spare key's true use with the Punto is only to be used as a temporary measure, in case the main key's failure. But before you can do that you have to deactivate the immobiliser using the code card provided for your car, as the spare key cannot deactivate the immobilser.

So if the key is the source of the problem, the service center guys will deactivate the immobiliser, allowing you to use your car with the spare key. You will need the code card, so do carry it along when you get it checked out. They will place an order for the key of your car with FIAT Spa. which should take a month or two to arrive.

Re: Fiat Grande Punto : Test Drive & Review

After the blue they now gonna stop production of the exotic red color? A TBHPian had tough time getting (ordering) the red one. Seems they dont produce red ones as the demand for this is less!

Pray they dont stop making red Punto and that this is a rumor by the dealer!

Re: Fiat Grande Punto : Test Drive & Review

^^ This is just rumor. Red is THE most fast moving color followed by white. They cannot stop making Red Puntos. Might be that they are trying to introduce a new shade. But still that does not mean to stop making Red. A red Punto is as classic as a red Ferrari.

Hey My 500th post!!! An its about a Punto. Sweet.

Might be a trick by the dealer to convince the buyer to go for Wine Red as it costs another 5k extra.

Well, Whenever I give my car for servicing I make sure that I do it with the spare key. I do not handover the foldable key to anybody at the service center. Now even with the spare key the car runs as usual. I am sure it has inbuilt mechanism for immobilizer.

I believe apart from keyless entry and the style factor , there is no difference between the two keys.

You are correct. If there is a difference Fiat would have explained it in manual.

I drive Punto Active. Right from Day1, I've been using the spare key instead of the primary Key. I think this should rest some misunderstandings.

I don't know the reason but yes, I had tough time getting a Red, and even after waiting for 17 days, they said that Red is not going to be produced in next 10 days, now I have changed the color to Tuscan Wine.
I will be paying 5K extra but dealership will absorb the recent price hike (he says it is around Rs7100).
I specifically asked a guy from FIAT, who handles the sales in north region if they are going to dicontinue E.Red color but he said that production is low as demand is less for this color in 90HP variant.
