Re: Kia Syros Review

I love how the sub-4m segment now has affordable choices for every type of niche buyer.

Spacious? Syros

Sporty? N-Line

Rugged? Jimny

German? Kylaq!

Re: Kia Syros Review

The Syros is almost just a sorted product
  • Features - Yes
    Practicality - Yes
    Engine Options - Yes
    Design -
An otherwise sorted product from Kia, Design may be HIT or MISS

Re: Kia Syros Review

I love the looks of the Syros, especially in black. This car somehow reminds me of the Nissan Qube. However, I am supremely concerned about the headlight placement. Even minor scratches can affect visibility and it goes without saying the headlights are the most vulnerable to damage on this car.

Kia should have provided ventilation for the entire seat at the rear. I feel only base ventilation is pointless.

Oh and also, what will be the fate of the Sonet now? No body in their right mind would buy a Sonet after seeing a Syros. Whats the difference in EMI, afterall? I would definitely ignore the Sonet now after seeing the Syros.

Cannibalisation is fine but in this case I feel the Syros makes the Sonet feel totally irrelevant now. Atleast if this was slightly more than the sub 4m length, it would have made sime difference between this and the Sonet. But now, I feel the Sonet is totally irrelevant.

Re: Kia Syros Review

I like what the Syros brings to the table however not having a crash safety rating in any of the newer Hyundai & Kia cars is a big issue.

And I think this should be highlighted in the detailed car review.

Re: Kia Syros Review

If Kia gets over the Looks hurdle, this might cannibalise the sales of Sonet, Exter and Venue altogether.

Oh, I'll have the 1.5L 4 cylinder diesel over the 1.0L 3 cylinder petrol anyday. Gives me ~5 BHP less but ~75 NM torque extra. Feels like a no brainer.

And I do think that it'll get over the looks hurdle. These Korean twins have a knack of making bestsellers out of ugly ducklings. But that's not for BMW to follow.

Re: Kia Syros Review

Great review . Just if the review could have a missing statement in the cons summary section . “Safety could be a hit or miss. Kia India is known to make unsafe cars”

Though the review has already called out not BNCAP tested .

Re: Kia Syros Review

Very good review. The following is what I could pick from the review as clear positives and differentiating factors

1. Good and sturdy build quality. Of course we need to wait for crash rating.
2. Plenty of nifty features (e.g. physical ON/OFF switch for air quality control. This is much appreciated and needed)
3. Addresses the major con of the Sonet i.e average leg room and average under thigh support for rear seat passengers

The car looks quite good in White, Sparking Silver and the Frost Blue color.

The Pewter Olive shade is not very clear in the review. May be it's the effect of the sunlight?

One quick question for Android Auto usage -
- Does it show full screen in Google map usage? For e.g. in the Sonet only 70% of the screen is available for usage for Android Auto users.

All in all - a very good option for the users looking for sub-4M compact cross overs!

Let us await the pricing. Kia Syros pricing is expected to be way above the Sonet.

Update: Got a confirmation from my KEC that all the door buttons are indeed illuminated.

Really hope your SA's information is correct as it differs from what our SA stated. The Syros's Specifications page does not mention the power window buttons are illuminated.

The Seltos's Specifications page does say that. So I'm not sure if I can say that it's really offered.

He double-checked the display car in the showroom and confirmed it with me. I will check on Thursday on my way back from the office.

Re: Kia Syros Review

The good:

- use of soft touch materials on the doors
- Nice placement of the start stop button. Might take some to get used to but I like it
- Physical buttons for the AC and audio controls
- Omitting rain sensing wipers saves some costs. I've personally never used them
- Rear seat traverse!!! Wonderful feature, everyone must implement this. Enables space sharing between the boot and rear passenger compartment
- Features features features
- Feel of the console and interiors
- Wireless AA and carplay!!! Finally
- Retractable cupholders. Nice!!!
- A great package for a market that wants the practical aspects of a wagon r with miles better interiors and features

Few things that have been missed:

- Rear center headrest - seriously in this day and age?
- Rear seat ventilation - only seat, not backrest. Half baked implementation
- Driver seat adjustment - 2 electric, 1 manual function??? Why?
- non adjustable armrest? Why skip this?
- Why not put fuel lid release along with the auto hold, traction control switches? The little lever on the floor is something that I've always hated. More informed folks can weigh in here
- no insulation in the bonnet?
- those wheel arch claddings are eyesores IMO
- Placement of the headlamp cluster on the outer edge of the front bonnet is a disaster. I won't make it to a 10 percent ncb also, being in Bangalore traffic
- off center logo on the steering??? I really cannot unsee that
- non reach adjustable steering??? In an almost 20 L car?
- I don't get this new fascination with recessed door handles. What's wrong with the conventional design? If Kia had to do this, make all handles pop out on unlock. And pop in on lock
- Scuff plates on the door sills would add some character. Illuminated sill plates a la Nexa would be awesome

Re: Kia Syros Review

Very good launch IMHO. The highlight is that they managed to provide somewhat similar rear seat leg space when compared to Creta/Seltos. Think many people who are planning to buy Creta/Seltos will go to this given the practicality and features available in Syros. I somehow liked this quirky design, found it way better than Venue/Sonet. If they crash test this with a respectable score, it will definitely have many takers (even the ones who normally don't consider going for a Hyunda/Kia model) because of the unique positioning of this one.

Re: Kia Syros Review

I see no idle start-stop switch in this car. This is usually placed below the RHS AC vent in the Koreans.

So finally this stupid regulation has been done with, for good? If yes, then thank goodness! One less button to press during every start-up.

It's moved to the center console near the gear lever.
