Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

As I got out of a open parking lot today, the display on the Kylaq showed 42.5 degrees. The good news is that the air-conditioning worked very well, and my fears now stand alleviated. The bad news is that it seems to come at the expected cost of a huge dip in efficiency. At these temperatures, the auto start-stop function doesn't shut the car either to main cooling which worsens efficiency.

These are perhaps the lowest numbers I've seen on the car, and they dipped further down to 8.2 by the time i got home. That being said, i'll take a cool cabin over an additional point in efficiency, i guess. And i'm guessing a little less traffic will help too

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

My Skoda app currently indicates that I have a 3-year SMP. However, I am a bit confused about what exactly this covers and how it differs from an Extended Warranty.

Can someone please provide some details.

Warranty or extended warranty covers manufacturing defects, everything apart form Consumable items are covered in it. SMP is service package, you have 3 years of free servicing, including Labour and parts.

Hi,
The SMP or service maintenance plan covers the regular periodic service items like oil, filter and water wash. It does not cover wear and tear parts like break and clutch.

While, warranty covers ONLY manufacturing defects of parts that fail in due course of operation. This excludes the basic wear and tear and consumables items used in periodic service.

Skoda Kylaq Review-20250329_123209.jpg

Hi everyone. I am happy to inform I have taken delivery of Kylaq Signature Plus AT olive green color as my second car.

This car will be used primarily by my wife and kids for their daily skating class.

I booked on December 2nd 2024 during launch and got delivery by end of March.

We also have Nissan Kicks 2019 diesel which is at 1.02 L odo and will serve our highway trips.

She really needed a break from manual kicks which was tiresome for her to drive in traffic. Late 2024 we were seriously hunting for small premium hatch with proper automatic. Only magnite cvt was the option. We never liked Mahindra 3xo for the obvious reasons ( reliability and brand appeal). Hated Tata stable to the core for the very reasons. Then came the news of skoda small car launch around the corner. We knew the engine is proven one and no need for testing. Meanwhile we had test driven the same variant of kushaq and we concluded to book kylaq.

Around November end kylaq was showcased in the mall and we had face to face experience . We had test drive after formal launch and was convinced to go ahead with pre booking .

3 months past booking, we got our hands into the amazing, sporty, small zippy hatch - The Kylaq. I would like to call kylaq hatch than a sub4 suv .

Variant selection was little tricky as the 3rd variant signature plus AT was priced atleast 75 to 100k more than what it's worth. But considering long term ownership and to experience a little premium cabin, we went ahead with signature Plus variant which costed us 15.30L on road Madurai TN. Dealer was fine with me taking insurance outside. Delivery was smooth, however skoda dealer 's hospitality is not even 50% close with suzuki or Hyundai. They need a LOT of improvement and training in customer relations, followup and handling .

Finally, kylaqs small and value proposition made us to own a skoda ! Cheers all!

Need advice: was delivered a faulty new Kylaq

Hello,

I took delivery of Skoda Kylaq 1.0 Signature AT from KUM Skoda, Chennai. On the day of delivery itself I found that the infotainment was not working, they first said it could be radio code issue and took it to service. After about 2 hours they came back and said it's a software update issue and now it's resolved after an update. I was first shocked how such a small thing was missed in the PDI.

On way back home, problem surfaced again. Bluetooth wouldn't connect and so is Android Auto. I tried several times with several devices but no luck
I immediately reported it to the dealer and they asked me to bring back the vehicle.

Things became worse, I discovered the next day the the insurance they provided has an incorrect vehicle chassis number which practically made the insurance void. When I reported this they said they could rectify it ASAP. Once again, something that they overlooked.

I took back my car, spent 3 hours in service and finally they said it's a faulty infotainment system. It should be sent for warranty replacement is what they claimed. At this point I was utterly shocked and frustrated. I demanded for an upgrade of infotainment which they provide as part of additional accesories. They said they cannot do that straight away.

To add, I found out read charging ports are not working. I collated all these issues and sent to Dealer head for immediate response but I am chasing them daily to get some update.

They have taken my vehicle now and they said they will keep it in service for 3 days for observation, after which they can claim warranty for defects.

I have paid in full for a car but is suffering from all such issues and has no car to drive now.

Please advice on how to proceed further. What can I expect and what can I demand?

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

Hi everyone,

We finally received the delivery of our Kylaq Signature MT on 22nd March.
We have already driven 1600 km including 500km yesterday, so wanted to share my feedback/experience with the car (relative to other vehicles we have driven):

1. Suspensions: We have done trips in Hyundai, Tata and Kia, but Kylaq's suspension felt significantly better. Drive was very comfortable irrespective of the road bumps and we didn't experience much body roll while driving.
2. Gearbox: Felt smooth, though I had issues once or twice while trying to slot the reverse gear. Overall, I felt Hyundai/ Kia were more smooth.
3. AC: Is okay in cooling. Worked fine when external temp. was 37-40 Celsius and in moving traffic, though struggled when we were in bumper traffic. It does shave off 1-2KMPL of mileage which I think is normal for all cars.
4. Space: We felt it was comfortable for 4 adults with kids, even in long drives. While the focus is more on front seats, even the rear passengers didn't have any issues during day long travel. While I was driving (6ft), the person (5.8) behind was able to sit comfortably.
5. Power and handling: The car accelerates effortlessly and quickly climbs upto 80-100kmph. We were consciously monitoring to stay within speed limits. The steering feedback is also good.
6. Boot: Wife and mother were very happy with the bootspace, no further comments.

Hope for many more comfortable drives to come.

Pic at the start of our day yesterday.

Involve brand also. Write to Skoda India Customer care.

I wanted to, but I don't know how effective it will be. I am worried if that would become counter productive. All I am looking for is a practical solution and a fair compensation. Is it too much to expect? :(

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

Hi Fellow BHPians, I have a PSA regarding mudflap installation for my newly purchased Kylaq and how the Skoda dealership cut corners to poorly install genuine Skoda mudflaps.

I recently received the delivery of my new Skoda Kylaq Signature AT in late March. Along with other accessories, I purchased front and rear mudflaps for my car and had them installed by the dealer. On the day of delivery, we saw that the mudflaps were not installed as per the step-by-step procedure leaflet provided with the mudflaps.
Skoda Kylaq Review-guide-1.jpgSkoda Kylaq Review-installation-1.jpgSkoda Kylaq Review-installed-1.jpg
The service person refused to install the mudflaps correctly as it would have required him to remove the wheels. The sales associate and service manager informed me that this is how they have been*installing the mudflaps for all the cars of Skoda that they are selling.

This is really unprofessional coming from a brand like Skoda, and I am not sure if it is just me or if that is how they have been doing the installation of these parts for all cars.

When you are taking delivery of your new Kylaq, please be aware of the poor quality of installation, as this might ruin the day of delivery for you.

Very sorry to hear your issues seen on a car that brand proudly claims to have been tested for 8 Lakh Kms! Skoda should give equal importance to other features offered in the car along with performance and handling. From the details you shared, the problems mentioned seems to be multiple basic ones that should have been caught during internal PDI done by showroom itself which in my case SA claims that it's approx 120 point broad checklist! Considering this, the main responsibility lies with the showroom to screen incoming allotted vehicles at the first. Ofcourse Skoda can also be held responsible.

Since the vehicle is already delivered and registered in your name, the only thing you can push towards dealership is to get some freebies in terms of SMPs or extended warranty plus some amount as compensation for the duration the car stays with service center, counting each and every day. Send out a mail demanding them quicker rectification and looping important persons. However it's now very hard to bat for replacement of the vehicle itself, but make sure you are well compensated for the hardships you faced.

Good luck and hope your issues get sorted out soon without much fuss. Keep us posted!

A faulty component in the car is ultimately the responsibility of the brand. Unless you put it somewhere in writing with brand, it’s all hearsay. By informing the brand you will make sure that your issue is resolved within service level time so it might make the process faster for you.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

Anyone bought extended warranty? How much did it cost? And what about extended SMP on similar lines?

Please share details on this.

As others have suggested, please write and tweet to the brand. You can share your posts on the thread as well to put pressure on them. I'm positive you will hear back from them and the dealership will be forthcoming as well.

Have seen the cost for the extended warranty on earlier posts here. You should be able to find it easily.

On a separate note, has anyone had luck getting the Skoda Plus application running for the Kylaq. If I understand correctly, the signature plus has connected features but they yet work for me.
