Thanks. Not really, as Signature MT comes with nearly all the must haves for me. Things that I do miss, are not part of accessory list - hill hold and sharkfin antenna. So planning for only the basics + rev camera & screen.

There is now a YouTube video of the classic variant with features unlocked which includes the hill-hold function. Perhaps you could consider that at some point.

I also believe you can buy a sharkfin antenna and get that upgraded.

I have to say, the signature plus AC touch controls are a nightmare to use. I just cannot get used to it. Manual controls definitely better.

Registration process is still on-going, so hopefully will get the car by this weekend or next week. Based on the feature list, that's one feature that I wanted but my variant doesn't have (been spoiled on features by Hyundai).

1. Thanks for the video reference. I think such changes might void warranty, so could be done only post warranty.
2. Currently sticking to company accessories. Just in case I get used to that ugly antenna.
3. I quite agree on the AC controls, manual controls are much better.

Highly recommended to go with only OEM accessories for now. I heard somewhere that the 7 inch touchscreen on the Signature variant is not compatible with a rear view camera. Is that true?

I was thinking If I can save a few bucks and get a rear view camera on the 7 inch screen itself.

I don’t mind the smaller screen and also actually prefer wired carplay. I haven’t had a great experience with wireless carplay connection on my parent’s car.

I've only seen signatures and prestige variants on the road but on YouTube, there are a few user reviews of the classic variant as well.

I don't know if the price for the Classic remains the same but you can check on the Skoda website. I guess deliveries for new bookings will take quite a while though.

Introduction:



I have owned a couple of Skoda Superbs in the past and experienced several VAGs from their glory days such as the Octy, Laura, Jetta and Passat. One thing I always loved about VW and Skoda is that they never compromised on quality, uncompromising engineering and premium feel even in their more affordable cars such as Polo and Rapid.

I however, went from a hardcore VAG enthusiast to not recommending any of them when the MQB A0 IN cars came about. These cars felt evidently built to a cost with extremely cheap feeling cabins for the price and my friends with Virtus, Taigun, Kushaq and Slavia complained about excessive squeaks and rattles in a short span of time.

Although these cars were still structurally well engineered and drove pretty well, that sophisticated European edge from my older Skodas was missing which left me very disheartened.

This is when the Kylaq came in and I wanted to just give it a chance. I'm happy to say I've come out very impressed!

Test Drive Impressions:



Design wise, this car was very attractive inside-out. It was small without feeling cheap and had no risky or excessive design elements. It was a very handsome and simple design that everyone will tend to appreciate.

The way it drives, the ride quality, the NVH and the overall sense of sophistication feels very mature. It doesn’t feel like a cheap sub 4m car. It feels properly European in a way I haven’t felt from any European brand in the past few years.



The build and material quality feels very solid and is a massive step up from other A0 INs. There are no soft touch elements but everything feels solid and well put together. There’s none of the rattling, creaking and flexing from its cousins that is apparent here.

The ride quality is brilliant. It has that firm European edge and doesn’t feel too soft or floaty unlike pretty much every other Sub-4m car on sale. It filters out just enough to feel connected yet sophisticated. Very refreshing from super soft characterless suspensions from most mainstream cars.



The driving experience is spot on. It’s so easy to drive. Steering is ultra light yet responsive and weighs up fairly well at higher speeds. The tiny footprint makes it a breeze to drive in the city. The electric seats go all the way down to make the driving position sporty enough without compromising on visibility. It feels like a hatchback. The performance is just adequate but can be increased as per ones liking thanks to the massive support the 1.0 TSI enjoys in the tuning community. The manual transmission is very snappy and satisfactory but the clutch is a tad too springy and you need to get used to it. I had a hard time rev-match downshifting throughout my test drive. Handling is well above average but there’s more body roll than I’d like. Can be fixed with a set of coilovers as well but that would ruin the brilliant ride quality. Overall, I’d say that this is the best driving experience in the segment by quite a margin.



I drove both the Signature Plus and Prestige variants and would recommend going for the Prestige variant despite the high price tag compared to the extremely value for money lower variants just because of the feel-good factor. There’s just enough equipment, colours and designs thrown in to make it feel special in a way that lower variants don’t. Proper powered seats is a big plus and although it misses out on some tech compared to the competition, most can be OEM+ retrofitted. People have already retrofitted 12K OPS with PLA 3.0 (360 degree sensors with auto park), highline reverse camera with dynamic guidelines, OEM Amplifier with Subwoofer, European Full Virtual Cockpit, Direct TPMS and much more in other A0 INs and the same is possible here.

Conclusion:



The Skoda Kylaq was a pleasant surprise and I'm happy to say that for the price tag, I simply couldn't fault it and I can finally start recommending an affordable VAG product to my friends and family yet again with confidence.

Hi Everyone,

I took a test drive of kylaq automatic a couple of days back. I drive a MT honda brio. I was pretty excited after hearing and reading great reviews about the car. As soon as I started the car, the NVH was absolutely great. A regular joe wouldn't even notice that it's a 3 cylinder engine. Kudos to skoda on this one.

As for the driving experience, I came out with mixed thoughts. We were 4 people in the car and I drove the car for about 12 kms, for some reason I found the tsi engine to be a bit hesitant while speeding up. I drove it till 80 and I could feel the engine taking it's own time although being smooth at it because of the TC gearbox. I couldn't feel the kick of the turbo.

I do understand that you can't compare the acceleration of a MT car and an automatic one but I was expecting the engine to feel way better than the 1.2 ivtec. Unfortunately, it didn't feel that way. I think it's because of the power to weight ratio of the brio as compared to kylaq.

My parents too were not impressed with the mediocre leg space. The showroom experience was great though.

You should try the 1.5 TSI DSG Slavia or Kushaq as well, just to get a feel of the performance, Leg room on the Kylaq or any of the VW-Skoda 2.0 cars besides the sedans is mediocre at best. Yes power to power-to-weight ratio does matter and the Brio and the Kylaq have a similar power-to-weight ratio too.

Hi, there are several businesses that focus on German car retrofits. vag.planet, vag_tune, germandna_india and n2autotech to name a few. You can look them up on Instagram.

This involves using OEM parts from other models, retrofiting them and coding to make them work to OEM standards.

The options are pretty limited with these MQB A0 IN cars such as basic features coding, speed chime removal, 12K OPS with PLA 3.0, Direct TPMS, Highline Reverse Camera, OEM Amp and Sub and European key fob. European MIB 3 Infotainment and European Full Virtual Cockpit are possible on the VW A0 INs only.

You've got endless possibilities if you have a proper MQB car such as an Octy, Superb or Tiguan. You can retrofit everything from adaptive suspension to proper level 2+ ADAS.

I finally cancelled booking of my Kylaq Signature MT, I did not like the drive of MT at all , whereas AT was fun to drive ( there was significant engine noise though ). Opting for either Slavia or Verna now after testing both for a while.

Was torn between the Kushaq and Kylaq (among a few others), and after several test drives with both, finally booked the Kylaq Prestige MT. I felt the Kylaq had a slight edge with better maneuverability, given the tricky entry and parking at our home.

No major offers/discounts, except for their 1-year service package (which used to be for 3 years for early bookings).

Experience at the dealer (Gurudev, Chennai) has been alright so far. A nice touch was when they had a little Women's day do when we were there today, and impressed my wife with a present.

And so far they have been cool with me arranging insurance and loan on my own, unlike others I've dealt with in the past. Remains to be seen how the rest of the sales experience goes.
