Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

I agree with you 100%. The Skoda showroom near Vega Mall will always never have TD vehicles (Apparently at the customers'). Not a single follow up call. Kia Naara JP Nagar is the worst showroom attention you'd ever get in entire Bangalore. Best is Labagh.

1. Given the i20 sits more closer to the ground it should feel more agile and will have better driving dynamics.

2. Both the cars are overpriced for the variant of your choosing. DCT would feel faster than the TC and with a heavy foot you can say bye bye to mileage in both cases. In a normal scenario (45~60kmph) TC would give better mileage.

3. Again the i20 would have lesser body roll due to its design and it sits closed to the ground. Also, there is a 20 mm GC difference between both.

4. Not sure why features of a car is being compared with GC of another. But if the road condition at your location is even average then 170 mm would do just fine.

5. Hyundai ASS is pretty good in India and is close to what Toyota and Honda has to offers. Not sure about Skoda.

Note: In my opinion,
1. Skoda has been able to get better safety ratings consistently.
2. TC seems more reliable than DCT based on the discussion on this and other forums.
3. I would like to sit higher while travelling and hence a tall boy design is welcomed.
So Kylaq would be my choice between the two.

Despite every opinion/perspective, take both cars on a spin for a long drive. Whichever puts a smile on your face go with that.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

Please weigh in and help me understand if I should be worried about the Volkswagen tax evasion case. We're expecting to get our Kylaq later this week or early next week, but the case is making me feel jittery.

That should not affect any operations. The suit will be likely settled out of court eventually with some settlement amount that might possibly never come out in the open. VW group has a lot of recent investment in India and a dealer network that would be at stake which they obviously want to earn the profits out of.

Here are some of the queries

Thanks
Take more test drives and then you can decide, most of the things are personal choice so we can't tell what you prefer. You already have an i20, why not change the car this time?

.
The side claddings are on top on the metal part, so instead of reduction they add to the cost. Regarding front and rear cladding, the bumper is already made up of plastic, so that doesn't matter.

That is a tax evasion notice, it's not related to something which would shut down the plant, Škoda-Volkswagen has also filed a case against the government, so chances are some sort of settlement would be done. Don't worry about it and get the car.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

This is just an educated guess—a bit of fun while you pace around delivery ward for Kylaq to be born!

Production Capacity & Efficiency (Autocar PRO)
SAVWIPL has increased its Chakan Plant’s capacity by 30%, reaching 255,000 units annually with Kylaq’s production now in full swing.
Operational efficiency has improved, with production lines running at 40 jobs per hour (JPH).

However, this capacity includes all Volkswagen and Škoda models (Kushaq, Taigun, Slavia, Virtus, etc.).

Kylaq Production Estimates (Autocar)
Škoda India aims to produce 50,000 to 70,000 units annually, depending on demand.
This translates to a monthly production rate of 4,000 to 5,800 units.

Factors affecting delivery:
Quality checks & batch inspections
Variant-wise production schedules
Dealer allocation strategies
RTO registration delays (as the system needs to be updated for Kylaq)

Production & Delivery Timeline
Production Start: 12th Dec 2024
Deliveries Begin: 27th Jan 2025
To be delivered by May End: 33,333

Lava Blue buyers - Since you sinned by paying ₹9K extra, expect a longer wait!

Estimated Delivery Timeline
Bookings within 8K - Possible delivery by end of February
Bookings beyond 25K - Likely delivery by end of May

Skoda Kylaq opens its account in the monthly sales/dispatch chart. Way below Kia's premium offering!

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

Hello Everyone, I'm new here and I need some help. After doing a lot of Kushaq vs Kylaq, I made a list of my requirements and finalized on the Kylaq and booked it on the day of launch. I'm happy to say I have received the allotment of my LAVA BLUE Signature + AT today and my SA has committed to deliver the car in 2 weeks time. They have asked for the full payment.

My questions are, shall I make the payment first or wait for the car to arrive. If I don't make the payment, can they allot my car to someone else? And shall I go for a third-party PDI?

Anything else you would like to add I need to know before taking delivery?

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

Hello, and congratulations! I'm expecting my car today or tomorrow as well. Tell the dealer you'd like to do a PDI before registration. And you'll make the payment after that. If they are hesitant, you can make a partial payment to indicate your seriousness and say that you will pay the remaining amount after seeing the car. My dealer was completely ok to show the car to me, even though I hadn't paid a cent over the initial booking amount.

No, request to see the car in person first and do a PDI before making the full payment. "2 weeks " can stretch out to any amount of time once the dealer has your payment. Ask for VIN and check it when you see the car in stock yard.

Service costs of the Škoda have been reasonable and pretty transparent. If you are buying a Škoda/VW would always advise you to get the extended warranty and service pack for peace of mind. Also the Škoda dealer agrees to remove any unnecessary additions from the service estimate without being too pushy (something that Maruti & Hyundai service advisors push very hard for). Do keep in mind my Honda BRV service costs are lesser than 3 of my close friends and family’s i20s.

Purely in terms of ease of parts sourcing and service centers Maruti & Hyundai are still ahead of VW & Škoda.

Although 1 important advice: for average users you would probably visit the service center once or twice a year. So pick a car that makes you happy when you drive it the year round and has important parameters in place such as Safety, ride quality, fun-to-drive etc. Servicing alone should not be a deal breaker.

Congratulations on getting the allotment, it has been a long wait. But before you pay a single rupee of your hard earned money I strongly believe you should be given your right to do PDI, dealers needs to stop treating customers like this.

I am not sure how exactly Skoda's overall quality and assurance is, and maybe their product might not even have any defect. But you have to decide if you are ready to take that risk.

Personally I would suggest that you push hard and don't pay any extra money other than the booking amount you have paid. If need be loop in Skoda India via e-mail.

I had booked the car on Day 1 of bookings, but my dealer in Navi Mumbai was being very pushy, I would say even arrogant that without payment you cannot do PDI. I walked away. After all of that then they come back and say that fine "special case" for you we will allow PDI, but by then I couldn't trust and won't do business with such people.

I have re-booked with a different dealer, and I am patiently waiting for my allotment. I like the car and it's offering, but honestly it's an expensive car, and if I am buying it I am going to do it by the books. No compromises. That's just my take, everyone has their own risk appetite.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

My uncle had been planning to buy a car from the C1 segment for quite some time. He had test-driven every vehicle in the segment and was considering his options when the Kylaq was launched. A quick call to the only showroom in our town secured us an invitation for a test drive on February 5, 2025. My uncle loved the enthusiastic TSI engine and the 6-speed TC automatic gearbox and decided that the Kylaq might be his next car.

The variant that fit his budget was the Signature AT. We had another test drive today and found everything great except for the following:

1. Lack of a Hill Assist feature: This was disappointing, although the car performed well on some steep roads during our test drive.

2. The wired 7-inch infotainment system: If he purchases the car, he might upgrade this system to the one available in higher variants. This is what the Signature's system looks like:

Skoda Kylaq Review-img20250206131606.jpg

3. Lack of a rear camera: We were told that upgrading the infotainment system mentioned in point #2 would allow us to install a rear camera.

However, none of these points were dealbreakers for my uncle. He was ready to proceed with the purchase but was surprised that the sales executive assigned to us had only joined the dealership three days ago. He lacked the technical knowledge and vehicle awareness necessary to sell the Kylaq effectively. Essentially a back-office executive, he was a thorough gentleman but struggled to answer basic queries about pricing or features without consulting his seniors.

Some minor blips aside, we are satisfied with the Kylaq and hope it's the model that turns Skoda's luck around.
