Re: 2024 Toyota Camry Hybrid Review

Though I like the overall package, that dual tone finish looks wacky, especially the way it covers the A, B , C-Pillar and rear windshield area. Also the lip spoiler doesn't gel well.

Re: 2024 Toyota Camry Hybrid Review

As always, brilliant review by TeamBHP. And a brilliant effort from Toyota too! I don't really think it's fair to compare the Camry to other D2 segment cars as it it priced so much lower (apart from the Seal). Only glaring omission I can really think of is the lack of rear ventilated seats - c'mon TKM, if Kia can do it, so can you.

The Lexus ES is definitely getting cannibalized now, and the Seal has some real competition. Good on Toyota for not overpricing like they usually do.

Re: 2024 Toyota Camry Hybrid Review

Toyota did a good job using the sprint variant (effectively the sporty SE variant in the US/GCC) as it helps mask the additional plastic near the headlights as compared to the previous gen. If anything, the sporty version looks even better than the previous gen. However, it's obvious that most would go for the more vanilla executive version and that one's face still seems a bit weird to me, despite seeing more than a couple of them in the GCC.

Re: 2024 Toyota Camry Hybrid Review

Camry for some reason has been a car I have always wanted. It has the luxury I want without getting all the attention. I prefer this over the e-class any day having owned the e-class.
But for some reason I cannot get over the fact that it is still a 25L rupees car which is commanding 50L+ here in India for whatever may be the reasons. Hybrids should get the concession they rightly derserve.

Re: 2024 Toyota Camry Hybrid Review

Toyota should consider offering first party accessories to enhance the appeal of the back seat. The fluffy headrest cushions, window blinds to name a few. These small things bring so much quality of life improvements

Your aforesaid observation is quite concerning. You have made negative observations with regard to the build quality of the car on more than one occasion in the review.

May I request you to elaborate a little more on this aspect? Camry is the only car available in India apart from the Hyundai Tuscon costing under 50 lacs which has a Top Safety Pick Plus rating from IIHS. Additionally, it has also received 5 Star Rating from Australian NCAP. It is needless to state that NCAP ratings other than IIHS, Euroncap and ANCAP are not reliable and their protocols and modus operandi have raised a lot of questions.

I was under the impression that since this car is a CKD, it would have the same build quality as the ones tested by IIHS and ANCAP. However, your observations have made me re-think on this aspect. I am also shocked to see that at this price point, the car does not have Blind Spot Detection and Rear cross traffic alert which are now available in cars under 20 lacs. Does all this indicate that Toyota has done cost-cutting and compromised on the safety aspect of the Camry which will be sold in India ?

Please share your valuable opinion.

Thank you.

There is nothing wrong with the Camry's build. It's just that many of us are so used to the vault-like build of German or in fact, most European cars that Japanese / Korean cars just feel a notch below.

The Camry is not badly built or unsafe at all. But some body panels just doesn't feel quiet as solid as say, a Superb or C5 Aircross.

Re: 2024 Toyota Camry Hybrid Review

I am sure it’s better engineered that what the Koreans have to offer. But I bet, the competing Sonata from Hyundai (in markets where it is available) would have much nicer interiors and more well thought out features for comfort. Yea, the Toyota is the better engineered product in all likelihood and yea, it will last longer too. But I can’t see why at what would be minimal manufacturing and input costs they can’t provide stuff like electric sunroofs and rear ventilated seats. Am glad they’ve retained the tactile, physical buttons though.

Toyota has a loyal customer base and caters to it. But are they trying to appeal to an audience which isn’t their core audience?

New Camry in red looks really ugly and looks more like a 20L car. Heavy metal color looks really classy and it is my favorite.2024 Toyota Camry Hybrid Review-screenshot_20241221092122.png

Toyota Camry Hybrid Pros

• We find the Camry well-priced for what it offers

Toyota Camry Hybrid Cons

• Not as solidly built as German competitors
• Handful of cabin plastics don't feel premium
• Steering, though direct, lacks feedback
• Owners will miss a panoramic sunroof, folding rear seat, glovebox cooling & illumination etc.
• Back seat is better suited to 2 adults, rather than 3
• Turning radius of 5.7 m and large size will make it difficult to manouver in congested cities
• Road noise is higher than expected
Thanks for a superb review.
However, with all these Cons, I’m wondering why do we consider it well-priced !
Isn’t such a high priced sedan, being a Toyota so not carrying the brand name premium-ness, should have been free of such cons ?

I too feel it's well-priced for what's on offer:

- The latest hybrid tech which will give you 15 kmpl in the city, and lower emissions. No restrictions like EVs, charging infrastructure or range anxiety.

- Way more comfortable than all the entry-level German cars in the 50-60 lakh price bracket.

- Will match the comfort of many German cars costing 20-30 lakhs more.

- Exceptional reliability & Toyota's excellent after-sales service.

- The latest Camrys aren't boring to drive anymore. In fact, they can be a bit of fun.

If anything, cars like the Camry Hybrid make all the German sedans look grossly overpriced (which they are). Cramped C-Class for 73 lakhs OTR is the ultimate . No rear seat space, no ground clearance, no power, 1.5L motor shared with Renault, and eye-watering maintenance / repair bills....

Cool

However, someone shelling out 50L+ for a sedan that too a Toyota, won’t worry about kmpl.
If one is really concerned about emissions, they’ll go for an EV.
About comfort, only time will tell how many buy it for that much over premium brands.
I’d eagerly wait to congratulate a lot of team-bhp forum members for their Camry purchase

I like everything except the catfish look for the front. I am sure there is some aerodynamic efficiency reason for this design.

Re: 2024 Toyota Camry Hybrid Review

Camry Hybrid has been a dream car for a long time. I've always loved the subtly elegant looks of the outgoing model & the one before that. *Many* lawyers & judges are driven around in these, and I see at least fifty of them a day and never bored of the way it looks. This on the other hand...not a big fan. Hopefully it looks better in person? But then I don't understand why Toyota is promoting it in outlandish colours like blue & red?! Silver, black or white. Those are the only acceptable colours, end of discussion.

Re: 2024 Toyota Camry Hybrid Review

This car looks hot, whatever the colour!

I've read all posts till now, and would like to understand how this hybrid works. You mention the ICE is used to power the hybrid, and also that the car does not need charging infrastructure. Does that mean one never needs to charge the EV battery? But isn't using an ICE to charge the battery against the very concept of an EV. Apologies, I'm not tech savvy, but would love to understand how this hybrid tech works.
1. How does the EV battery charge?
2. Does one need an EV charger installed?
3. How much distance. would one get in the city on pure EV mode?
