Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

With the Kylaq ticking all the right boxes, I believe Skoda would do well to discontinue the Kushaq 1.0 TSI, especially at 17.5 lakh OTR price that the Prestige AT commands.

Some features like the 360-degree camera and auto-hold are missing, admittedly. But I'd rather it not have features like 360-degree camera, than having to deal with a half-baked version of it.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

I believe Skoda is quoting the boot numbers to the roof rather than the top of the back seat. Like to like numbers will be a lot more humble (I'm guessing around 320L).

And a big boot in this size(sub-4m) IMO isn't a good news, this means that the extra room has come at the expense of room elsewhere, which might be the back seat.

Kushaq didn't sell because it was significantly smaller than Creta and Seltos, in this segment this won't be an issue as all cars are the same length and around the same width (3xO is an exception with that wide body).

I'd love to be proven wrong though. If Skoda has provided a half decent backseat room somehow, they have a winner on their hands. This should de-facto will be the best seller in the segment via the engine alone.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

Given the price of 7.89 L for the base variant for brand SKODA it's totally worth it in the price point as well for the competition as we have punch also in this price segment!!

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

Refreshing to see another well priced car after the shockers we've had in last few years. Skoda however seemed to have missed a trick by not having a base auto priced at below 10L. A classic auto at 8.99 would've been a steal! Should have been possible if you look at the premium the signature plus AT carries over the manual.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

Hi, probably Skoda just did what they should have done 10 years ago, a product for mass market.

Skoda & VW still hold premium European product in people's mind and their exterior and interior design go well with people in urban India.

While the base variant appears to be just for low entry price, I feel that Skoda should launch AT variant at 10.99 lacs ex showroom to attract customers in the showroom.

Just looking at the pros and cons shows how much the Indian consumer has been spoilt by South Korean and Indian automakers. Many features listed in the cons were not available in cars in many upper segment till a few years ago. No wonder the Japanese(even Suzuki is feeling the heat) and European automakers are struggling to compete.

But that aside, I don't see how not having ADAS is a con. Most vehicles equipped with ADAS are not using the feature to the fullest. But yes, it is a trending feature and buyers should be given an option.

Adding few points:

PROS:
  • Both driver and co-driver electric Seats(6 way adjustable)
  • Better fuel efficiency
  • Better looking side profile compared to the 3XO
Having a Kushaq 1L TSI at home, I can tell that this engine is very fuel efficient if driven properly. We have managed to get 20-22 fuel efficiency figures on highways with 4 people onboard if driven sedately(between 90-100). A 120 kmph speed on the expressways result between 17-19 kmpl efficiency, city drives are mostly between 9-11 kmpl.

The power figures might be down to the 3XO on paper but make no mistake this is a very well rounded engine with a mid-range that can put cars one segment above to shame.

At least mention likely better ride and handling and safety or do these not matter at all anymore?

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

Kylaq interiors. Very similar to other Skoda cars. Not a fan of virtual cockpit. I still love those classic analog dials. Big disappointment is the touch panel ACC. Seen this issue in a friends Taigun, even a slight knee touch on the ACC panel and settings change. Rear legroom seems very tight.

Ride and handling will be on par.

Structural safety will also be similar, as both Kushaq and 300 were 5 star GNCAP rated.

Overall Safety will be better in 3XO as it has ADAS (which the Skoda group has not invested any money to tune their European ADAS for Indian road conditions and hence skipped that feature)

Powered seats for even on the passenger side? This must be a segment first (even cars 2 segments above don't get it)

Comparing the Kylaq Prestige AT with the XUV3X0 AX7L Petrol AT doesn't seem correct. The Kylaq Prestige AT is expected to be around 1 to 1.5 lakhs cheaper than the AX7L AT on-road. So, if you compare it with AX7 AT, Prestige AT has more advantage except rear seat width and touch controls. Regarding the power figures, while the 3XO has higher power figures on paper (129bhp and 230Nm torque), that doesn’t always mean better real-world performance. The Kylaq with its 114bhp and 178Nm torque will smoke XUV3XO in any speed test!

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

Great car, with great looks and good features. Hope it can turn their fortunes around in India, even though they are quite late to the segment.

That rear wiper is an eyesore. It looks like they are stuck with that design for their Made for India models. I just don't get why they can't give the other design that's available on the international models!!
