- Group is looking at enhancing market share and hence Kylaq would not account to the profitability of the group. ( probably at a loss)
- Skoda Kushaq 1.0L variants could be axed in the upcoming facelift
- Skoda Kylaq will be a drivers' car but would be poor on mileage.
Few more important points from the discussion:

1. Size wise, Kushaq is lowest in its segment while the Kylaq seems to be among the top 2.

2. Rear space seems to be better when compared to Venue/Sonet.

3. On the mileage, he said that TSI engines are very sensitive to inputs thus cannot give mileage if you are pushing too much. If you drive normally which 90% of the case you would, they are capable to give very good fuel efficiency, this is based on our experience.

4. Kylaq will be a better driving package compared to even the 3XO which has better numbers on paper. The mechanicals have been better calibrated in the Kylaq which would be upgraded in the Kushaq as well in the facelift.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

Here is an assumption (more like a hope), after watching many more youtube videos on Kylaq. Skoda was/is taking feedback from all the media persons who "reviewed" the design of the car.

Here are couple of points some of them mentioned to Skoda which may end up changing (for good).

1. The present reverse camera is of very bad quality. Someone mentioned "it was as if the camera is from 2007". They have requested the Skoda to "defnitely change it" and benchmark Tata's high quality reverse/360 cameras.

2. Multiple media persons have made clear about their disappointment on the absence of a 360 degree camera. So I'm hoping Skoda provides that at least on the top variant.

3. Even though the back seat has 3 headrests, seat shape is contoured for 2 people. That means it has a hump in middle on the seat, which may not be that comfortable on long road trips. Few has suggested flatter bench type seating would work far better.

IF Skoda's words of constantly taking feedback and listening to people about what they want in Kylaq is true and not just a marketing talk, and IF THEY STILL CAN make changes, these changes will defnitely happen.

These are well thought out and must for Indian market. Especially the 3rd point has to be taken care in the final product, last year my friend had to opt for Nexon after observing similar problem with Tiagun. Paying ~15 Lakhs for a family car or CSUV makes sense if 5 can fit comfortably.

Skoda, listen to the feedback, if you really want to capture some market share in this hotly contested segment & sustain!

Perfect! I think the Kylaq is a well-rounded package baring the looks or the size which is a subjective matter altogether.

Inspite of it being build to a cost in this hotly competitive segment, it doesn’t feel like one; atleast going by the initial reviews.

If Skoda addresses the above points, I think they have a winner in hands.

Also, I’m not sure why they skipped the fog lamps? Is this the first Skoda-VAG car to drop em?

Some of the reviews mentioned this (marked in the below image) is a fog lamp with a cornering function.

I don't know how true it is because many others didn't talk about it.

I have seen camouflaged Kylaq on Pune outskirts roads mulitple times both at distance and up close. I will say, visually it is 3/4th the size of Brezza, 3XO, Sonet.

I still don't understand why didn't Skoda used Fabia nameplate, Fabia name has got lot of nostalgia and recall value. I know international Fabia does not share this platform, but what's harm in using a name? Skoda is anyways never going to get the original Fabia back to India.

Well, we all know how it went for Renault when they launched the Captur in Indian market based on the Duster platform, which had nothing to do with the Captur sold in the European market. I think, Skoda did well by not going with the name Fabia, because Fabia is still available in the international markets as a hatchback and if they plan to bring it in India in some hypothetical situation, they would be in a soup. Plus, many would feel that Skoda is giving us step motherly treatment by selling an Indian-ised car in name of a European hatch. In addition to that, the name Kylaq goes with the Skoda’s current theme of naming cars starting with K & ending with Q, it helps them from marketing perspective, after-all they even ran a competition for it to increase customer engagement.

Thank you sir for the update.
Had made decision to move ahead with C3 turbo full option automatic for which the dealer gave an irresistible offer. Getting the car delivered today.

In relation to how Skoda is trying to optimize costs in the Kylaq, here is a quick comparision of features reduced or lacking in the Kylaq prestige over the Kushaq prestige. None are big deal breakers though.
  • Superior ICE speakers with amp and woofer (hi performance speakers would have been nice if not the amp/subwoofer)
  • Window chrome beltline
  • Cornering and dedicated fog lights
  • Rear fog lamps
  • Functional roof rails with 50 kg load capacity (Kylaq has show only)
  • Door scuff plates
  • Rear spoiler
  • Front bumper chrome garnish surround
  • Skoda badge on fender
  • Dual tone color options
  • Gloss black on B and C pillar compared to matte
  • Trunk chrome/ black garnish
  • Extended tail lights - missing pieces in the hatch door
  • Lower standard warranty expected than 4 years on Kushaq
  • Rain sensing wipers ??
  • Dual tone horn ??
  • Ambient lighting and footwell illumination ??
  • Body colored + matte black mix compared to only matt black bumper
  • No chrome surround on the front grill
Kylaq has the Fog Lamps (with cornering function) and rain sensing wipers.

If Skoda prices the Prestige AT at 12.5 Lakhs ex showroom (as mentioned in the below article), then it can be worth considering over 3XO AX7 Petrol (which is priced at 14 Lakhs ex showroom).

According to this article, the price difference of 2.5L b/w the Signature and Signature Plus MT seems unlikely and way too high to me, given the difference in features is not that huge. I think it is more realistic to expect the Signature Plus AT to come in at 11.5L and the Prestige MT at around 12.5. The Prestige AT could be more around 13.5L - 14L, just undercutting the 3XO AX7.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

I am not sure this is appropriate to comment here.
Looking at the specs and price it's very tempting and hard to ignore but the poor service story is haunting me everytime when I think about service and spares cost. I am quoting my recent experiences here to understand the gravity of service experience.

Instance 1: MySkoda App, (the app which was available to fix appointments, to know the nearest skoda workshops, service history, job order, etc.) stopped working almost a year ago and right now nothing is available. One year before, it was supercool where your service estimates will come to your email and you have to digitally confirm the service estimates to proceed for the service. This brought lot of transparency to be Frank. But this initiative was stopped abruptly. I don't know it's was right to comment/judge on commitment towards after sales but definitely it's not a great thing to run a service without digital enablement.

Instance 2: I am currently owning Skoda Rapid 1.6 TDI. I was about to change my steel wheel and placed an order with authorised dealer. 15" steel wheel costs 2400 rs but the plastic wheel cap costs 2500 rs(1 number). Yes you read it right it's one number and not one set. May be wheel is manufactured in India and wheel cap is imported. I could not digest when I heard the price for wheel cap. While I am writing this, Its almost 7 days now I have placed the order still the latest ETA is 3 days. Don't know when it will arrive.

Instance 3: Checked the price of ABS sensor (fails frequently in vw skoda) it's still 4500 rs where other OEMS are selling it at 1/4th of this cost.

To sum up, Kylaq is a great product. 1.0 Tsi + Torque converter is a gem to drive but skoda needs to put some serious commitment to improve its after sales service otherwise it's just another kushaq/slavia story.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Pre-Production Camouflaged Car First Drive & Preview

Overall, this looks like a great product. After the reviews come in and (if) it turns out to be as good as I think it is, I will recommend this over all competition in the segment.

Maybe a 1.5 TSI version later for people who are willing to pay for it could be the icing on the cake.

The concerns raised by you are worth considering. More than the product delivery, ASS needs to be very efficient for any automobile company to grow. The big reason Marutis are the market leaders is due to their best in class ASS with economical pricing compared to rest. Hope Skoda takes a note out of it.
