MX1 and MX3 models (for petrol atleast) have dark upholstery. For higher models, curtain airbags and ventilated seat option will make seat covers and new upholstery tricky. Please check with the company instead of team-bhp

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

There has to be better was of integrating cameras on the side than placing them on the wheels though. With all the litter and stones, etc on Indian roads, it's a disaster waiting to happen.

IMO, I think they should've aped Tesla and placed cameras on the fender.

Something like this Mahindra?

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I failed to understand why Mahindra had to decide on a different door pad design for base and top Variants.
Never seen any other brand doing this earlier.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I was able to TD M&M Roxx twice, both times in the 4x4 Diesel AT. Please bear with my opinions in a somewhat boring manner (only pointers with no pictures).
  • The steering gives a wrong impression of the vehicle size. Like in the XUV 7OO and ScorpioN, the steering is butter smooth at crawling speeds, weighs up artificially at higher speeds.
  • The cushions for the seats are on the harder side. Also, the rear seats are better than front seats when it comes to underthigh support, the recline adjustment further enhances the experience.
  • In continuation to the above point, the floor height is high (thanks to BOF chassis) making the front seats’ underthigh support ‘bad’. To improve the thigh support, I tend to push the front seats back, compromising the second row legroom. With the driver’s seat all the way down and slightly pushed further back, it visually showed the same amount of legroom in our Rapid with driver’s seat adjusted for me.
  • Ride Quality though acceptable, one can sense the suspension working to smooth out the ride. I abused the car by taking it over a speedbreaker at ~17 kmph (I would never imitate the same while driving pseudo SUV), for the front it felt magical, but for the rear passenger the bump traveled through the seat to their spine.
  • ADAS felt well calibrated and non-intrusive atleast for my driving style. Not sure if it relies completely on the camera or if there is a radar neatly hidden behind the bumper.
  • ORVMs though have good height, would have been better if they were wider.
  • Visibility from IRVM is hindered by the spare tyre, though the rear wiper has more than enough cleaning area and the washer too works well. Maybe the only vehicle with a bigger rear wiper compared to the front .
  • Brakes felt sharp, acceleration was brutal and body roll felt well-controlled at city driving speed.
  • ICE felt good and impressive, possibly because I had lower expectations.
  • Camera Quality felt fine for the most part.
  • The rain sensor was slow to respond. The catch is that I didn’t check for rain sensor sensitivity; increasing it might resolve the issue.
  • Grab Handles are on point, causes no hindrance to vision or during ingress/egress. Side Steps are lower than those on the Thar 3D, yet make no mistake, they are still far off the ground.
  • Not a car in which one expects tighter panel gaps. To me, the panel gaps seemed consistent.
  • Boot Space is well crafted and adequate (even with the rear seats reclined) for most families IMHO.
  • AX7L variant has little to no cup holders. The one in centre console should be interchanged with the electronic parking brake, because the co-passenger side armrest does not slide forward (as is the case with driver’s side armrest). The door pads at front can max hold bottles upto 500 ml, for rear bring down this number to 250 ml.
  • Cooled Glovebox is of good size and the only place where we can keep one litre bottle(s).
  • There are 3 different types of door handles in the Roxx (black flap types for the front doors, vertically mounted body coloured flap types for the rear doors and pull type handle for the boot door) .
  • The dead pedal is perfectly placed (find it to poorly placed in the XUV 7OO).
  • The brake pedal is very close to the accelerator pedal, it did interfered during both drives. A slightly adjustment to my right foot solved the issue, but not sure if it will surprise with an acne during long drives.
  • The car does not shake when shifting the AT gear between P, R, N, and D.
NVH is excellent, better than our Rapid as well. Close the doors, and it cocoons you from the city noise. NVH for the second row felt good too. There was no tyre noise or suspension noise, but cannot conclude as the odometer of the TD vehicle was at just 145 km.
  • AC vents for the second row should have been placed on the B-pillars too. Cooling felt insufficient in the second row of seats even when the AC was kept in auto mode at 23°C.
  • The panoramic sunroof is huge and adequately tinted. With the sunblind covering the sunroof, I didn’t feel any heat traveling into the cabin.
  • Grab handles on the roof have soft-close functionality along with coat hanger hooks. Quite handy.

Pardon me for some repetitive pointers. These opinions are subjective.

For the top end, might be to keep the acoustics and reduce door vibrations due to the speakers.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I was in Punjab Auto, Ahmedabad Mahindra Showroom on Sunday for Bolero. I was accompanied by my 2 sons. Upon reaching found out they were having Thar Roxx reveal event. Frankly we had nothing to do with car & event. We were just witnessing as visitor. And then came surprise. They had cake cutting ceremony for reveal. Some senior from showroom was to do the honors. That gentlemen ended up suggesting kids should have a go at cake. Now my sons were the only kids in the event

They had gala time being "Bin bulaye Mehmaan" and enjoying the limelight and fun

We ended up checking out display car. It is amazing car for urban citizens. Sadly, utility buyers like me have no use of it.

Here are the snaps,

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

The "ITA" or Intelligent Turn Assist is a boon in tight turning spots, but will cause a lot of tyre burn for the locked wheel on hard surfaces if you are doing such "locked turns" frequently. Instead of completely locking the inner wheel, they should have locked it just 70 - 80%, allowing the wheel to rotate a bit so that the tyre burn can be reduced albeit ending up with a slightly higher turning radius.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Over Hyped Vehicle

The dealer Harbir Chandigarh, executives had no idea about the vehicle it's features. I could have given vehicle induction training.

Test Drive route is predefined and on butter smooth roads hence made no sense to test.

We drove in on a Safari Xza+ Dark and upon checking out the Thar seats they are small and less comfortable. Those who compare it to SN are mistaken we have SN also and it is way more spacious and comfortable compared to Thar 5D.

Second row is not spacious. This is purely for Tashan and new family owners to get the family to say yes.

White interior already was adorned in beige smirk all over, it cannot be kept white unless you keep the plastic covers on but still. For reference this is the pic of the stationary demo vehicle which has seen customers for last 4 days.

It looks less dirty in pic, it literally looks yuck.

Pure black would have looked much better IMHO

Additionally the accessories are bling and not classy.

Boot indeed is spacious, AX5 has better value adds compared to AX7 especially in already sparse space vehicle.

If you love your Money hold your horses, give it some time for market to respond. Mahindra will need to bring in the Dark trim and mechanics will be sorted out over time.

Jimmy has managed space better, though it is smaller and already low on space. People would kill me but if you need a 4x4 (I had dibs on Ax5L 4xplorer) go for Jimny during Shrad get a steal deal and have fun without troubling your family.

This is from someone in Mahindra:

The different design is to accommodate the Harman speakers on the doors. The lower variants without branded audio have speakers like the old Thar.

Another advantage of that is to have a larger glove box, which the old Thar doesn't have.

Mahindra wants AX7L customers to stop frequently to replenish with water by buying packaged drinking water thereby adding to nation's taxes and plastic waste.

I don't understand! how did they manage to get it so dirty so soon. What kind of people are coming to see the Vehicle!

I would have also liked if it was darker/ dark beige. In any case its not leather, it says leatherette seats. Real leather is easier to clean and restore and also has a different rich feel to it.

Can I afford to have white seats in my car? YES, but it'll be a lot of work to keep them clean, and I can't have them look like in this pic! so a lot of work. Somewhat counterproductive to the purpose of buying such a car.

Its not the "white seats" which is the issue. I have that in the XUV700. My XUV after 2 years still looks "new"

For the Thar, its the ultra soft material which these seats are made out of which is sticking the dust.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Hi,
Got this pricelist(Karnataka), when we visited the showroom today.
Still certain columns/prices are missing in the pricelist.
Seeing the pricelist we can guess the 4x4 Mid/Topend will cost min 27L/30L respectively (Onroad Bangalore).

I found another issue with door handle of Ax7 L.

The edges which are inside are very rough and hurts when you keep your hand inside the handle to close the door. Attaching a picture for better reference.

Hope mahindra smoothens the edges for better experience.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Quick question - is it possible to retrofit power folding mirrors in mx3 or mx5 variants directly from Mahindra or outside dealers? Has anyone done this on Thar?
