Drove from Kochi to Pune via Mangalore - Goa - Anuskara Ghats. The Thar Roxx is unbelievably quick for what is a 4x4 vehicle. Feels rock solid between 100-120 and gets to high speeds rather quickly too. No nervousness. I had the diesel AT 4x2 with me for the stint. Top marks to Mahindra for the kind of road manners this thing comes with. Kudos! Attaching a picture

How did you find the suspension over broken roads, undulations, concrete tarmac etc?

Please share more notes if possible regarding suspension behavior over different surfaces.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I don't think Thar ROXX would lure away Creta buyers, at least not in large numbers because of the obvious difference in styling and running costs ( say, FE). Creta would face competition, in addition to the existing ones, from the Curvv and from the Basalt ( for petrol buyers).

I thought the ROXX would be offered with the 1.5 litre diesel in its base avatar but that's not the case. May be they were concerned about the cannibalization of the three door version.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I think Mahindra's product planning team is definitely a lesson for all other competitors as well as businesses. Off-late, they are on their way to establish a monopoly in the 15-30 lakh Rupee Segment. The most lucrative and the most profitable Segment.

How they give you vehicles with immense road presence, strong build, good performance, features, and mechanical reliability within this price range is a lesson of scales itself.

They started with the new gen Thar, established themselves with the XUV 700, minted the reputation of Scorpio and now this. No company boasts of such a blockbuster portfolio in the Indian market. And all this with cars that are mechanically sound (although the sensors are still half cooked in the initial batches). Maybe the Thar Roxx will become a bread-snatcher of most of the mid-size crossovers. They just need to get their after sales experience sorted out now.

I'm in no way a Mahindra fan. But whatever they have done in the last 2 years is indeed a lesson to all others who say that Indian market is a cut-throat or over-engineered cars in India are a mistake. All it takes is a strong product that has good presence, features, performance and reliability. Couple this up with a creative marketing team, and you have one winner after the other.

Yes, OP needs to clarify.
Also, how can the launch of one car (Thar Roxx in the context of OP) devoid the other car (Scorpio-N, again in the context of OP) of “Chapri” status, as it appears OP meant to say so.
To me it appears, he considers some perspective buyers of Scorpio-N as “Chapri” class and he’s thankful that such a class of people would now be lured to Thar Roxx and his beloved Scorpio-N would get saved from going into the hands of those class of people.

Thanks Jaggu & Aditya for the review..
How is the width of the rear seats compared to say a Duster?

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Thanks for the fast review guys!

I was going thru the brochure and made a quick & dirty comparison table between the three major Petrol Auto models... MX3, MX5 and AX7L.

Thought I'd share it here and hope someone finds it useful.

Prices are from CarWale.

Here is a good review from OD! They jump right into the meaty stuff i.e. off roading. The intelli-turn and crawl modes are quite interesting.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

The design of the rear makes me think that a Roxx Pick-up/Getaway will be the next launch in the Thar line-up.

Imagine the rear without the rear triangular glass & related body panels, you have a smart and proportionate looking Pick-up ready to make the pick-ups mainstream vehicles.

Cheers

I remember Duster comfortable for 2 and squeeze for 3 if you are on the heftier side, same for Roxx. 3 average adults can sit comfy, add a hefty individual and it will be not so comfy for longer trips. This is the case with most of the current gen cars.

Ha ha I don't think so, the rear seat recline will have to be forgone + this is a proper metal body, chopping it open will have many set of challenges thrown in.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

IMO Thar roxx is playing a zero sum game rather than a positive sum game.

People who want a off-roader will prefer the 3-door Thar, People who want a plush car they will get the XUV700, the people who want a bit of both will get the Scorpio-n.

Thar Roxx will only cannibalize the sales of all the above 3 said SUVs, as its basically a Scorpio-N with a Thar inspired body work.

It will be a sales success but at what cost is yet to seen.
