Sir, in India, A sunroof on a car implies it's among the top variants and it's supposedly very desirable. I mean that's the general perception from the eyes of an average car customer outside this forum.

I was at Citroen Basalt showroom and there were many potential customers who commented "What No Sunroof? No Cruise control? What top variant is this then?. We pay such a huge amount and No sunroof? Despicable cost cutting" And children will say in unison" Papa humko tho sunroof chahiye. Nahi tho hum gaadi mein bytenge nahi".

Other day, I was in my friend's new Mahindra XUV 3XO and without my prompting, he proudly opened the sunroof and said "See, this car has a sunroof. It gives such a premium vibe" I agreed with him and moved on.

Indians have a very skewed view of luxury in a car. Sunroof is one amongst it. It's more for bragging than a functional feature.

Same problem with all Coupe SUV’s, I dont like the ‘hemmed in’ feeling in the rear. As if the ‘sky’ (roof) is inexorably crushing me.

You are right. I have seen people buying a small car and then boasting that it is a luxury vehicle just because there's a glass covered hole in the roof above the driver seat. Don't know what advantage it has in a country like India where it is either too hot, too rainy or too humid. Of course they can poke their head or that of their children out of that hole, if they are stupid enough to do so. Anyway it's their money, their car and so they are free to do whatever they want unless they are a threat to other road users.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Checked out the Basalt at La Maison Raipur. They have got only one showroom in Raipur which is shared half between Citroen and the Ford service.

Coming to the car, the Basalt is a no-frills car with all basics sorted. It has a good amount of ground clearance too. The rear seat head room for me was quite adequate (I am 5'9"). I had earlier driven the old c3 aircross and it was like butter with good steering feel and acceleration, so I am assuming the same for this too. It could be a good choice for anyone at 16-17L, if Citroen can provide decent service experience.

Attaching the pricelist below.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Citroen Basalt in Brazil:

Citroen launched the Basalt for R$ 89.990(~INR 1376796), making it the most affordable SUV in Brazil.

The basic model has a 1.0 Firefly engine with 75 hp and a five-speed manual transmission.

It has consumption of 9.3 km/l in the city and 10.2 km/l on the highway with ethanol, or 13 km/l and 14.6 km/l with gasoline.
There are also two versions with a 1.0 turbo engine of 130 hp, with a simulated seven-speed CVT automatic transmission. The turbo engine is more economical with gasoline, reaching 11.9 km/l in the city and 13.7 km/l on the highway.

The entry-level version Feel 1.0 costs R$ 89.990, followed by the Feel Turbo 1.0 T200 for R$ 96.990(INR 14.8 lakhs), and the top version Shine Turbo 1.0 T200 for R$ 104.990(~ INR 16.1 lakhs).

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Hey all

Some urgent help needed. I received a call from my known service advisor in Citroen service center. He asked me to bring my Basalt to service station because as per him, the VIN registered to the car has been selected for an internal recall for gearbox replacement.

I am aghast why such a new vehicle requires gearbox replacement, even if preventive.
There are no known Citroen recall campaign in place. I understand that recall for a new model would be denting on Citroen's image. But what makes it worse is shady wordings of Service advisor.

He is not willing to let me take alook while they work on to change the gearbox. He wanted me to leave the car for two days.

What am I missing? Does this 1.2L transmission has known issues that may require replacement in entirety?

What sort of dilemma am I looking at? If I say no to him, and god forbid something may have to happen to my car tomorrow, he would be shooting daggers with I told ya looks.

Guide me here, oh learned folks

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Most ASS do not allow customers into the service area so i am not surprised that they will let you observe.

Its better to get the fix done ASAP at the service centre rather than having any issues later.

But there is no official recall by Citroen. It's just the service center guy calling me that he will get my car picked up and dropped after two days during weekday. I told I want to observe the repair he started giving out excuses ...

That's what making me wary of this initiative

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

^^ until there’s an official recall or at least a widely reported one, I wouldn’t give my brand new car to even an ASC, 2 days unattended. What gearbox fault can happen to a brand new car; If there’s any failure in future, they will anyway have to cover it if there’s any recall by the company.
You can always mail to the customer care of Citroen India citing the VIN and ask if your car falls under any recall. That should be conclusive enough plus a written documentation of fact.

Thanks.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

If it is a known service personnel, just get it done. Even if it is the local center calling the vehicle in it should be for a good cause. Better safe than sorry.
Or do you have a reason to doubt the guys! If that be the case, mailing and waiting for a response and not using the car till then is the only option!

What value would be added being there to observe? If you gave it for a service, would be be supervising it?

He wasn't giving assuring answers. I clearly asked him what he wants to do, he told me he will change gearbox. I told him I want to watch it being done. He said it will be a time waste, don't miss your office, will return it soon yada yada

Just wanted to check his confidence in the answers. He clearly fouled

Indeed but I will be safer when company calls me to service center instead of just a service advisor without any written/documented reason to explain the purpose of visit

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

Just ask SA to share the service bulletin. He may decline. Ask him to atleast show it on their screen & assure him that you won’t take any photos or video. He might oblige. If there is a service bulletin, you have to give the car or warranty will be denied later on. Probably they have detected some manufacturing or assembling defect in the GB. Probably their vendor has notified Citroen.

Re: Citroen Basalt Review

If it's a replacement just go ahead and get it done. Maybe part of a soft recall. I don't think it is justifiable to ask for these to be done in owners presence.
