Heck, it outsold the venerable Toyota Corolla.
In my opinion those cynicism and skepticism are very much real considering both markets have extremely different needs from its customers.

Any car when launched in India is bound to be compared with its peers in similar price bracket. In this case -

1. Nissan has decided to launch a new car incompatible to upcoming fuel blends (E20).
2. Lacks multiple features available in below segment cars.
3. No sight of improvement for after sales or network expansion.

NISSAN is pretty much in line with what Citroen already did with its lineup. It almost feels like a JV in poor planning

They did evaluate the Y62 Patrol that was mooted to be brought under the then new 2500/year import quota. Guess they had cold feet to plonk the petrol only Patrol in the Indian market. One unit did come in via Nissan Digital Thiruvananthapuram having a KL-22 number plate, but that was it. Who knows. Maybe with the next gen Patrol months away, they may see it fit to bring in the left over stocks of Australian spec Patrol too. (though the people there may scramble to buy the last V8 Patrol like they did for the LC70 and LC300)

If it isn't against the Renault-Nissan India's no diesel strategy, they could very well bring the Terra to India.

So, the boffins at Nissan want people to buy this to be used only for 1-2 years?
And during those blissful years too, be on the anxious alert every time the car goes for a tank refill lest an E20 topup ruin the engine and the warranty be denied beacuse an un-recommended fuel was filled? I thought pretty smart people made it to the top in these MNC's.
Wonder who is the target group here, if there is any at all. Or if someone goofed up & put a wrong E5/10 sticker.

Re: 2024 Nissan X-Trail Review

I think this will sell if it's priced around the 20L mark. looking at the spec sheet and feature list, I don't see any real value, nor does the Nissan badge seem aspirational to anyone. They could have kept the enthusiasts happy by launching a stripped down base model sporty sedan, instead they chose to keep no one happy by launching an old base model 3 cylinder 7 seater

Re: 2024 Nissan X-Trail Review

In my opinion, this car is a quality offering that is messed up by Nissan at so many levels, if the following aspects were addressed, I am sure Nissan could sell at least 500 units a month

- Countrywide dealership and service network including Tier 2 and 3 cities
- Launching the latest facelift with better kit (bigger screen, ventilated seats, powered tail gate, motorized seats, wireless car play, android auto are mandatory on cars costing above 20 lakhs now)
- Had to be a CKD from the word go and priced in the range of 30-35 lakh ex showroom

I am sorry to say this, but folks who are expecting this car to be priced at 25 lakh ex showroom are going to be very disappointed, this vehicle is in the league of Toyota Rav4/CRV, Last generation CRV was last sold in India for over 35 lakhs on road despite local assembly, there is no way this can be priced lower unless Nissan is just giving away old stock! If in fact they are doing that, I am not sure what their long term strategy is.

I feel we need global manufacturers to launch global options as CKDs in India, our market has lost most of the global cars except for the luxury offerings, most cars in our market (below 25 lakhs ex showroom) right now are a compromise in terms of quality or safety or both, made for India should not mean this as the buying public is ready to spend on quality, safety and features.

If I was in the market for an XUV700/Safari and if a CKD Xtrail was available at a premium of 2-3 lakhs, I would definitely buy the Nissan provided they had a wide spread service network across the country, But I guess it is a pipe dream to see high quality safe cars selling well here given our tax structure.

They're saying this is the same 'look' model newly launched in UK. There it's HYBRID. Gulf car looks totally different. Not sure, but sometimes these reviewers get carried away

Re: 2024 Nissan X-Trail Review

Dead before launch, another C5 Aircross, Jeep Meridian story

20-35L segment is highly highly competitive and the products / feature / engines on offer are punching above its weight (competing with a segment above) even the decent products like Alcazar, Hector , Safari are struggling, how do they expect this to sell or create am impact

Previously when a limited series product was launched (Koraq, TROC, EV6), the product on offer had a high aspirational value, but no looks, 4X4 / AWD / Diesel / 200 Hp / 500 NM / Proper ADAS and they expect this to revive Nissan brand in the premium segment

Re: 2024 Nissan X-Trail Review

Full marks for the review Omkar

Negative marks to Nissan for
-First for damaging the brand value of X-Trail
-Second for launching the car with deleted features
-Third for being a CBU but not having same features as abroad
-Fourth for below par drivetrain/engine options
-Fifth for below par interiors
and
Finally, for the atrocious pricing(this is my speculation but bound to come true!!)

This launch is akin to a candidate losing deposit in election. Ta Ta Good Bye!!

PS: Nissan is most welcome to collect the participation certificate for competing with Creta,Seltos,XUV7OO,Alcazar,XL6,Elevate,Innova Hycross and Invicto

Only time will tell I guess Cant write it off

The demand in this space is huge, and this category isn't looking for VFM. Nissan might pull it off

Re: 2024 Nissan X-Trail Review

4th-gen Nissan X-Trail bookings to open in India on July 26

Nissan will open the order books for the fourth generation X-Trail in India on July 26, 2024. Customers can book the car by paying a token amount of Rs 1 lakh at their nearest authorized dealership. Deliveries will begin in August.

2024 Nissan X-Trail Review-2024_nissan_xtrail_exterior_02.jpg

The Nissan X-Trail will be imported via the CBU route. It will rival the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and the MG Gloster in the Indian market.

The Nissan X-Trail is based on the CMF-C platform. It measures 4,680 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width, 1,725 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,705 mm. In India, Nissan will offer the 3-row version of the X-Trail.

Powering the X-Trail will be a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with a 12V mild-hybrid system. It produces 160 BHP and 300 Nm and is mated to a shift-by-wire CVT gearbox. It also comes with a limited-slip differential.

The India-spec X-Trail will be equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The SUV also gets features like a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, 2-zone automatic climate control, wireless charger, cruise control and an electronic parking brake.

The list of safety features offered on the X-Trail includes 7 airbags, a 360-degree camera, automatic wipers, traction control, hill-start assist, front parking sensors, ABS and EBD.

Re: 2024 Nissan X-Trail Review

F-Trail - no AWD / 4WD meaning only front wheel drive. Drive on trails where only the front wheels can help you. Overall, a pleasing car though, nothing to go omg! ewww. But as the competition heats up, this would be finding itself in the lower rung quickly. I hope Nissan is doing this intentionally to check if the pulse for the new X-Trail is still there. They should quickly bring in the new version and use this current version as an advertisement for it's bullet-proof reliability.

But, what madness has crept into Nissan with this older model launch. I think our government should make it mandatory that every global manufacturer launches 25-50% of their current global models in India with a 3 year gestation period towards >70% local production. That would show some of these guys that our country isn't a dumping ground for older models.

A very lazy and incomprehensible launch

Nissan does well in so many countries because they offer competitive and latest products. In India they are always lethargic, indecisive and illogical whether it is car launch or lifecycle planning. Except for their Magnite.

No idea why they thought about launching a product competing with Kodiaq, Meridian, Fortuner or Gloster. All these four cars have something going for them which is their individual USP. Kodiaq for its brilliantly engineered engine & gearbox and luxurious interior. Meridian for its features and looks, Fortuner for being a Toyota and it’s long-lasting build. Gloster for its luxurious interior and the size. Though all these have their own shortcomings, they still trump in some areas where it matters to their clientele. And these cars give an aspirational value to a buyer. Inspite of this, except Fortuner, all others are struggling to sell in large numbers.

In comes so-called “new” Xtrail, a car which is neither here nor there. A very average or bland exterior (though subject to individual choice), unexciting interiors, sparse features, makes a buyer wanting for more. There is no X factor in this which makes someone aspires to buy this, like others in the segment.

I understand this is a CBU and Nissan too is not aiming for large numbers. Still why not import the latest model instead of bringing some leftovers.

As this title says, Nissan in India has always been lazy either on vehicle life cycle planning or keeping the buyer hooked on to its offering. Remember Micra, Sunny, Teana, Terrano, Kicks, Evalia (does anyone remember this one). I am not even counting the Datsuns. No facelift or upgrade, just discontinue them. A buyer will always keep this in mind about this about the future planning of Nissan for its models.

Though Nissan is in India for about two decades, there is no effort by them in understanding the local market, buyer’s aspirations, business planning or customer engagement.

Truly Nissan India can teach a lesson or two how ‘Not’ to run a car business in India. A very sad state of affairs for sure.

Why, oh why, did they have to plonk such a potent motor in there? They could have simply used the Magnite's 1 lit mill

That's what even I thought before driving it. It's surprisingly potent for a triple pot 1.5 liter, and quicker than a Fortuner, and probably even the Tucson.

The 3rd gen X-Tronic CVT and this motor is a superb combination. Non enthusiasts would be hard pressed to figure that it's a CVT. In fact, I found it to be more responsive than many torque converters.

A big unknown however is long term reliability with the variable compression tech and the assorted moving parts. It's quite complex, and the NHTSA has launched an investigation into this motor in the US I hear.

Cheers,

Jay

Don't forget on top this comes with JATCO CVT which is often regarded as one of the worst CVT transmissions.
