Re: 2024 Maruti Swift Review

I received a letter from the Maruti dealer regarding an ECU update "to improve the smoothness". Has anyone else received such a notification? I suppose they are trying to reduce the vibrations from the 3 cylinders although I have never felt them to be excessive in any which way.

Re: 2024 Maruti Swift Review

Gen 1 Swift vs Gen 4 Swift by Zigwheels. It isn't as straightforward a review because the Gen 1 is a diesel, and the Gen 4 is a Petrol AMT.

Nevertheless, it shows how competent the Gen 1 Swift is and how the Gen 4 Swift has not moved the game forward.

I have a colleague who purchased the Swift24 base version for his adventures of driving through the Bangalore traffic. He claims to get around 12 KMPL on average, 100% peak city traffic.

Above 14.5 in peak traffic congestion with long wait times in my AGS ZXI+. It's been about 1200 km into the ownership now. On longer, congestion free runs, it's of course much better.

I dont know about moving the game forward, but some of these tests like the spill test and even the cornering tests are empirical at best and very much driver dependent, therefore mean Nothing in real world. I had the 2008 Dzire VDI, which was essentially a Swift with an awkward looking but spacious boot. The car felt quite a handful on hard cornering and braking with the heavy diesel engine and lack of ABS. The new Swift is lighter, but handles well and has better active and passive safety features, which were not highlighted in the video at all. The new Swift also has an enhanced ergonomic experience, not to mention the diesel like economy , if not absolute performance.

My friend went ahead with the purchase last month. He is very happy with the FE as that was his primary factor in pinning the purchase.

Thanks!

Nice to know. Its all about managing expectations quite frankly. Most of us (me included) have been strong skeptics of AMT in general in terms of its performance. 5 years ago, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. But now when I see the traffic congestion and the resulting fatigue, it is a much better option than any manual. Just don't expect the car to zip past the slow moving truck and you will be ok. The car performs 'adequately' on the open flat highway.

Re: 2024 Maruti Swift Review

Hi Team, I went to check new swift in showroom yesterday. when I asked about 3rd gen Swift the dealer said only one car is available March 2024 manufactured, (ZXI AMT) and told me that the car was kept in display and after lots of negotiations he is offering 50K discount. Can I go ahead and buy it or book new 3 cylinder Swift. it’s not a demo car. please advise. Most of my driving will be in city .

Nope. Don't take it. Diwali sales and December year end sales are round the corner and with heavy unsold inventory of all the car brands, there's bound to be some good discount offers in coming days.

A Gen 3 swift with 50K discount can be bettered if you are willing to wait for some more time. The Gen 3 Swift engine specs appear better or superior over Gen 4 Swift, but the onroad performance reviews say that performance is at par with the earlier Gen and this is an entirely different engine.

A good idea will be to leave a message with the dealer that you are looking for a better deal and they could revert back when they have one.

However the catch here is, if there's another customer who laps up the 3rd Gen Swift at the prevailing/offered discount of 50K, then you stand to lose the deal. If you are OK with that prospect, then try to hold on to your horses and squeeze the dealer more. You could behave nonchalant in front of dealer and don't show any eagerness to buy the 3rd Gen Swift. Stay aloof, but let them know that you are willing to buy for a better deal but again willing to move on, if they are unwilling to give better discount. The ball is in their court. Remember, ball could swing either way.

There's a customer crunch in the market with huge unsold inventory with all car brand dealers. All it takes is patience and waiting for the right opportune time. With a deluge of new cars at tantalizing prices ( For example, the Mahindra XUV 3XO base model, Citroen Basalt base model, Tata Curvv ICE base model etc) there's going to be tough competition in the car market in coming days.

Diwali festival sales or the December year end sales are good time to benefit the most from your dealer.

2025 Suzuki Swift Sport Engine Details Leak – 150 PS, Mild Hybrid, 6MT/6AT

The Swift Sport won't make it to India. Maruti will surely point fingers at the Jimny sales as a warning to someone who demands it.

But why can't the 1.4l turbo make it to India?

The Grand Vitara surely needs it, especially with the 3 row version coming around soon.

Re: 2024 Maruti Swift Review

My dad's first car was a 2010 K-series Swift VXi, and that car was a beauty. Seeing this generation of the Swift honestly saddens me. A car that was once Maruti's snazzy poster boy for looks and handling and being the 'driver's car' being boiled down to yet another 3-cylinder econobox. Plus, those interiors, they're almost identical to the ones in the Baleno and Fronx and even the Brezza to an extent. If one was given pics of the interiors of their older generations, you could tell them apart instantly. This part sharing obsession is going a bit too far IMO.

Another small nitpick, I don't understand Maruti's habit of having huge bezels in their head units. It just makes the factory HU look aftermarket and cheap, especially in a floating design that they're going for here.

New Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXI Manual Impressions from a Diesel driver

Hello TeamBHP,
This is my experience with the New Swift ZXI Manual in a 40KM night drive in Bengaluru. This car was purchased by my friend who kindly lent me the car for my thoughts. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of some aspects while a little underwhelmed by a few others. This is my experience that may help you in your decision if you’re considering this car.

Prelude
A little background of the cars I have experience with so that you know where I am coming from when I drove the Swift. At home, the fleet is almost all Diesel Cars ranging from a 2.8L D4D, 220D, 1.5IDTEC and 1.5 CRDI. I am used to driving Diesel cars so naturally I am accustomed to the higher torque on these cars. This makes driveability, especially in a manual a lot easier as a lot less acceleration input is needed in stop-go city traffic. I have also spent an extensive time with the new Baleno Alpha Amt when it launched. I had almost two months of driving it through the highways, village and city roads etc. I really enjoyed my time in the Baleno, solid car- gets the basics all right. The AMT is a little bit dull but the Engine is a gem, ride is sublime and everything works well. This will be my reference point comparing it to the Swift, as will most of you.

What I Loved
The basics- In a world where everything is going digital including our cars, there was something so aesthetic and pleasing about the instrument cluster dials. It was clear, looked modern but timeless, it’s hard to put in words but there was something refreshing about the way it looked. I was particularly impressed by the reach and illumination of the LED headlights. I drove through some dark stretches and at no point did I feel there was not enough illumination. The Air Conditioning as with any Maruti Product was superb. The Infotainment system worked well, my phone connected right up- and there was no issue at all with the wireless connectivity of the Apple CarPlay. The rear camera and parking sensors were clear enough- drove through some rain but it still the quality was good. Front parking sensors I feel are a huge miss at this price though. The soft clutch and gear feel were my real highlights of the drive. It felt smooth, easy but robust while shifting gears, an enjoyable feel while shifting gears.

The Ride:
This car is like a tiny go kart you weave through traffic, it feels agile at quick overtakes above 2000 RPM, there is good visibility on all sides and I had no problem at all quickly adapting to this car- I think the sign of a good car is if you’ve never driven it before and get used to it within 3 minutes of driving. What blew me away was how comfortable the suspension was on Bengaluru potholes. Even my Seltos GTX or my Honda City do not have such comfort over the bumps. I also liked how at higher revs, the engine sounded nice and sporty- I might not have actually been driving that fast but, it made a nice sound and felt like a peppy car.

What I didn’t like:
The mileage was only between 13-14 kmpl in the city. See, I am not a Maruti purist, I am just giving my impressions with the car, but if there’s anything even I know about Maruti is that the corners cut in the weight of the car, the power, the creature comforts are all in the interest to save fuel. I’m sorry but the claimed mileage of 24.8KMPL on the manual is just not true from what many of us have experienced. The owner of the car who has taken it on many long drives, and city drives has reported a max mileage of 16 KMPL. This mileage the Swift is returning is still okay had they maintained the power and refinement of the 4-cylinder engine in the Baleno. But this brings me to my biggest issue- the engine just doesn’t have enough power in the initial get up and go. Why is this important? In city traffic and in a manual, you have a lot of creeping- even on the mildest of incline during city traffic, you have to give so much accelerator input. The lack of low-end power means at slow speeds, while doing the balancing act between accelerator, brake and clutch, you are very often going to stall or you heard that ‘clacking’ sound of an impending stall.

My final thoughts:
The owner of this Swift is someone whose family has only used Maruti Suzuki products for almost 40 years. The reason they stuck with MS is the same reason why anyone would stick with M&S, but I think the Swift’s greatest rival is M&S itself. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the best allrounder car in every right. Smooth engine, decent mileage, a richer experience on the inside. The Swift looks lovely, technically has better driving dynamics and is also is a nice city car, but from my experience with the Swift I would urge you to strongly drive the manual to see if you can deal with the low-speed performance or maybe check out the AMT option, if you want the Swift for city driving.
Hope my experience helps 😊
