Re: 2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO Review

Took a test drive of the 3XO 1.2 Manual (TCMPFi I believe?) and am mighty impressed with this car! It was an AX5 variant that looked so well kitted with superbly comfortable seats and amazing driving experience

2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO Review-img_5036.jpg

Likes:
  • Absolutely brilliant engine with plenty of power
  • Very spacious interiors and good rear seat comfort
  • Good view from drivers seat
  • Feels super solid and not a single rattle in a 10k run demo car
  • Dual zone AC worked perfectly well
  • Ride and handling was brilliant - drove through some curves and felt very confident, planted
  • Long list of features, 6 airbags across the line and well priced

Dislikes:
  • There was a micro second delay from when I press the horn and to when the horn actually works
  • Bolstering of front seats felt a bit too narrow for a decently wide bodied individual like me
  • Manual gear stick was vibrating a bit in Idle and throws were pretty long, though slick
  • Second gear ratio felt a bit too high. Needed to keep shifting between 3rd and 2nd quite frequently.
  • Relatively lesser boot space but better than before I believe?
  • AT vs manual is a whopping 2L away
  • Lacklustre dealership experience

Otherwise, this car is such VFM and feels super mature. I was amazed by the interiors too - though slightly dated and plenty of hard plastics, it felt very well put together. The basics of the car - engine + gearbox + ride comfort + handling - these are so well sorted! I am smitten by the improvement showcased by Mahindra.

Re: 2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO Review

How many people in this thread have yet to receive 3XO I’m actually curious because even after booking mine 10 weeks ago, my dealer doesn’t know when the car arrives.

I had booked AX5L Petrol AT in Bangalore.

Is this a one off situation for me because of my dealer or is it happening everywhere?

If it’s happening everywhere can we do something about it to get it quicker since the official waiting period is over?

Why are MX3 PROs readily available everywhere but the most booked variants like AX5/L are not being dispatched?

Ex showroom of MX3 pro petrol AT is 11.49 lakhs
Ex showroom of AX5 petrol AT is 12.19 lakhs
Ex showroom of AX5L petrol AT is 13.49 lakhs

The delta between MX3 pro and AX5 is 70k and for it the AX5 gets a lot more like digital instrument cluster, dual zone AC, alloy wheels, Adrenox tech, push button start and keyless entry, reversing camera, 6 speakers and much more, all of this for 70k more

The delta between AX5 and AX5L is 1.10 lakhs and for that it gets additionally 360 cameras, ADAS level 2, electronic parking brake, cooled glove box and mainly the TGDI engine for an extra 1.10 lakhs

Looking at the price of MX3 pro alone it makes it VFM at first but when you look at AX5/L you’ll quickly realise that AX5/L are the most VFM variants out there.

It has been 4 months since launch and the most demand is for AX5/L, Mahindra has had plenty of time to produce the in demand variants yet Mahindra is barely dispatching AX5/L which makes me believe that Mahindra and its dealers make more money out of MX3 pro than the AX5/L variants.

This becomes even more clear when you call dealerships to ask which variant is available for immediate delivery every single one of them say MX3 pro is in stock and ready be delivered, be it tier1 city or tier2, MX3 pro excessively produced and waiting at stockyard of most dealers and hence they are pushing this variant.

Same status for me as well. Booked AX5L P AT in Pune 12+ weeks ago and delivery estimate keeps getting pushed by dealer. Dealer mentions this is due over-production of other variants my Mahindra and lot of demand for AX5L variant. I would be surprised if Mahindra has not accounted for variant wise demand in advance. Most likely the dealers are selling cars early to those willing to pay a 'premium'. It was common practice with XUV700 and seems it is continuing with XUV3XO. Mahindra really needs to implement a system with much more transparency rather than leaving everything up to the dealer.

Each passing week I am more and more inclined to go for a different car.

So true, We were put in a similar situation after waiting for 10+ weeks on booking AX5 variant. The problem is for the budget around 13 - 15 Lakhs, we could not find a compelling product that was feature rich as 3xo.

Maruti

Grand Vitara - We liked the design and interios which was spacious. The fuel economy was best in class. On the day we visited the showroom, we were offered good offers (~14L) which made it enticing but the lack of 6 airbags in first two variants were difficult for us to ignore when all the competition were offering them from base variant.

Fronx - Technically it checked in all the features that we wanted within our budget but the seating position felt similar to baleno.

Kia

We visited to check out the features on sonet but the sales person pushed us towards carens which did not suit our needs. The timing at which we visited the showroom was not great as that was when there was a price hike and it felt over priced compared to features being offered.

Volkswagen

Loved the taigun it had good space with necessary features in base variant. It was around the time when 6 airbags were standard, with offers we got the price to be around 13.8L which felt as good VFM considering it was a segment above 3xO. The only thing which had us holding was the service cost which as a first time buyer I was not comfortable choosing Volkswagen.

Hyundai

Venue - It had all the features which we needed but the design looked dated due to which we had to drop it.

Creta - The base E variant looked promising with a myriad of official accesories that were available gave us control over choosing features that were useful for us.

The final contenders were Creta E and 3xO Mx3 Pro AT. As a first time buyer we decided going to AT as it was readily available.

Just had a chance to look over the accesories price list shared by dealership and did a quick comparison between MX3 Pro and AX5. It does feel like Mahindra released AX5 only to get people interested and into the showroom.

Based on pricing of official Accesories -

New Diamond Alloy Wheel Kit-40.64cm - 53000
Reverse Camera - 5000
Leather Steering - 1600
Roof Rail - 5500
Spoiler Unpainted - 8500

Things that are unavailble as accesories:

10.25 inch driver digital instrument cluster
Adrenox connect with built-in Alexa
Wireless Apple Carplay
Dual Zone climate control
Passive Keyless entry
Push Button start
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
Electrically foldable ORVM ( Can this be added as an accessory? )
Height adjustable driver seat
Rear armrest with cupholder
Auto headlamps + Auto wiper
Rear wiper + wash
Rear defogger
6 speakers (4 in MX3 Pro)
Adjustable headrest for 2nd row middle passenger

Fortunately/Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case atleast in Bangalore. I have booked the car whereas my wife is following up with multiple dealers in parallel to see if she can buy even after paying a premium. No dealer has confirmed despite a premium on offer. It seems like a production mix miscalculation by Mahindra.

P.S we have booked a Nebula Blue AX5L AT

Re: 2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO Review

:: AX5L Petrol AT TGDI 1000km+ Ownership Review

Recently, I completed ~1200km on my two week old car, so I thought that now is a good time to note down my experience and share with others who are in their buying journey.
I will break down into 3 buckets:
1. Driving Comfort
2. Performance & Fuel Efficiency
3. Issues

Driving Comfort:
Well to start, this car’s suspension is spot on, and this easily eats away all of Mumbai’s potholes. It’s nice and soft in city and on high speeds feels nice and planted. On the Mumbai Pune Expressway I briefly drove this car at 140kmph and honestly the car was glued to the road. This particular variant also comes with 3 drive modes, and surpsingly, I’ve found myself using the ZIP mode the most as my driving is mostly in city and in this mode the car is an absolute joy to manoeuvre around. The AC too is quite powerful, but honestly I’ve rarely used the dual zone feature. Lastly, the NVH levels are quite controlled and on good Tarmac the car drives like an EV!

Performance & FE
By now everyone knows that this car is indeed a BEAST; its power is really nicely mated to the TC transmission that feels very smooth. Performance in all modes is quite powerful and undoubtedly driving it in Zoom mode will make you grin ear to ear. The only time I did feel the car is slightly struggling is when I was driving it with full load on a slightly uphill road. In that circumstance fhe car frequently downshifted and I could feel the shifts happening. Though, those shifts were still smooth and the performance was still better than the 3xo’s rivals.
My fuel efficiency though hasn’t been that great. Despite driving on highways for 300-400km my fuel efficiency is only 10kmpl. I think this will chance after first service. I’m using unleaded fuel only.

Issues:
The car isn’t flawless. Most irritatingly, the infotainment system hangs 2/10 times. I’ve noticed this always happens when just starting the car and I find dreadfully that the screen is blank. It does come on automatically after 50 seconds or after restarting the car.
The mileage also can be an issue to some. If your running is high you can take diesel. However, the TGDI is MOST fun to drive imo.

ADAS
I’ve used the Adaptive Cruise Control quite heavily and I think I can say confidently that this feature works beautifully above 80kmph and is best enjoyed on National Highways. I’ve tried using ACC at 40kmph on Mumbai roads and at times the car has braked erratically to risk a rear end collision. On the other hand, on roads like the Atal Setu, Mumbai, the car is capable to fully drive on its own on the entire stretch.
The high beam assist is a useless feature imo for India driving habits. The lane keep assist works well 8/10 times and I haven’t had any issues with it.

I have booked AX7 Diesel MT at two dealers. One is clueless. While the other is giving options to go for AX5 and AX7L with multiple colour options and delivery in 1 week.

My friend booked an MX3 Automatic last week and got delivery yesterday. This is in Goa.

He got some accessories such as Seat Cover and more fitted.
The OTR price came to INR 13.20 Lakhs.

The fun part is, he wasn't much aware of the existence of 3XO as he is not an auto enthusiast. His leaning was towards Kia Sonet or Hyundai Venue, being swayed by public opinions. I had booked my base variant MX1 a month ago. (Base variant because I strongly didn't want a sunroof in my car). I tagged him along for a test drive in manual and then he test drove an automatic and was impressed and booked it. I think it took a week between booking and delivery of this MX3 Automatic (TCMPFi) variant.

As mentioned by someone in an earlier post, though the AX5 models are VFM for customers, the MX3 models seem to be high margin for Mahindra and hence it is being manufactured more and sold.

A sales executive at Mahindra PPS, the dealer from whom we got the car, specifically advised me not to use ACC in city traffic. He said that the feature is to be used only on highways. This gentleman was quite knowledgeable about the car.

Re: 2024 Mahindra XUV 3XO Review

Gentlemen, I am in a fix. I have a 2 month old booking for AX5L and no one really has a clue when the delivery will be. Today, there were some discounts running on Skoda website and I have booked a Signature Slavia 1.5 DSG which I can get in 2 weeks. I will love the engine and gearbox, but in terms of features, it is a regressive move even over my previous Altroz XZ. Thoughts?

Booked AX7L on 15th May in Pune. 14 weeks already gone. Initially, dealer had given 10 weeks official waiting period. Now he is not giving any date.

Dealer mentioned production and logistics issues as reason for delay in delivery. Not sure how much truth is there in this. If anyone is aware of this, please let me know.

I cannot grudge the waiting period as long it is transparent and fair. The lack of transparency is what is also leading me to agree with you on the reason for the delay.

Hi Fravia, a car is something that's huge capital investment and it's for keeps for a very long period (I keep a car through its full life time). Then there's spares cost, availability, service network & resale value to consider. Thus it's much more complicated than other purchases, such as an AC, Fridge or TV.

If you have two minds with Slavia Signature, it means somewhere in the mind you are not completely happy with it for whatever reason.

I would rather wait for a car that suits my requirement, taste and budget than go for another one due to sheer frustration or compulsion of not getting the original car in time.

AX5L is a great feature loaded car with VFM proposition. Hold on for a while. Don't take a hasty decision that you could come to regret when looking back in coming days.

Even with Skoda, next year is their 25th year in India. They have some great plans and offers coming up. Diwali period and December month are also great time to avail some hefty discount on choice cars. Over that the Skoda Sub 4 Mtr compact SUV will be launched around the turn of this year. And I heard that's an SUV to look forward to. Skoda is a late entrant to compact SUV segment and they have studied all their competitors and making necessary changes in their new product, the Skoda Kylaq and coming with a bang. That's worth a wait too.

I would suggest you to wait for a while and you could get your AX5L or Skoda Slavia (with a much greater discount). Don't hurry with these purchases. It's raining discount everywhere.
