Re: 2024 Kia Sonet Facelift Review

This is the new price list for Kia Sonet.
Am planning to buy Diesel HTK(O), but my friends and family are against diesel. As I will be mostly using it for City driving and Highway runs will be monthly once or twice a month. Confused

To be honest, they are right. Your usage doesn't require a diesel.

I am in the same boat. DPF is the reason I am not too keen on diesel. Higher price is also a factor. Running is mostly in city with not so heavy traffic. Turbo Petrol is 3 cylinder & does not come in manual. 1.2L 4 cylinder is not what I want for a car this size. Its also light on features since comes in lower variants only. Now more inclined towards XUV 3XO or Brezza.

Brezza 1.5L engine is enough for city runs & occasional highway runs. Only that its feature set & horrible interior design is what keeping me away from it.

Agreed with points on Brezza also the city mileage figures are not promising for a Maruti, even Ciaz poses a better mileage figure than Brezza. Top end with SHVS comes around 14 lakhs.
I need a car ASAP so I can't be a lab rat for XUV 3XO

Re: 2024 Kia Sonet Facelift Review

Any recommendation for front driver and passenger sunshade which doesn't block the ORVM view? Given the extreme heat, this seems a real need. The official one is like 2k, not sure if that is worth it.

Re: 2024 Kia Sonet Facelift Review

Hey everyone,

Our family, consisting of three members, currently owns a 2012 Maruti Omni (CNG) with 200,000 kilometers on the odometer (yes, you read that right ).

We're currently in the market for a car around the 12 lakh mark, and while we're open to pre-owned cars, we mostly prefer the new car buying experience.

The car will primarily be used for commuting to college, so about 90% of the usage will be in the city, with occasional long vacations once a month. Since we're accustomed to the CNG Omni, we're looking for a car that offers decent mileage, at least 12+ kmpl with a light foot in Bangalore city traffic. While we assume most modern cars would come with decent features, we're particularly interested in purchasing the most value-for-money (VFM) option.

Requirements:
1.Sunroof
2.Fuel efficiency of 12+ kmpl
3.Hassle-free ownership and relatively low maintenance cost
4.6 Airbags minimum
5. decent ground clearance

Options considered:

1.Kia Sonet G1.2 5MT HTK(o): This car ticks all the boxes for us. The interiors felt premium, loaded with tech, and suits my college-going persona.Right under the budget, If someone here has this engine variant would like to know how it feels as we couldn't test drive this specific engine variant, we tried the GTX+ DCT and fell in love with the car and the engine. However, we're unsure if it's worth spending an extra 4 lakhs.

2.Hyundai Venue 1.2 S(O): While the car didn't appeal to us as much as the Sonet did, the interior felt a bit too bland for our liking. However, the quality of materials was impressive, and the dealer is offering a 50k discount on the 2023 model, making it a good value proposition.

3.Maruti Suzuki Fronx: The car looks premium from the outside, but that's about it. The interior feels somewhat "cheap" compared to the Sonet and Venue. We test drove the manual variant, and it felt like a typical Maruti, somewhat bland.

4.Brezza: We're yet to visit the MS Arena showroom as this car is not available at Nexa. However, online reviews suggest that it has similar negatives as the Fronx.

5.Kia Sonet HTX 7DCT: We absolutely fell in love with this car. The engine is exceptional, and the refinements and gear shifts were so smooth that we hardly felt them. However, it's over our budget by 4 lakhs due to the tax laws in Bangalore (cars priced over 10 lakhs ex-showroom are taxed higher). So, we're seeking your expert opinion on whether it's worth stretching for this variant.

We're also open to other suggestions and pre-owned models. Looking forward to your advice!

Hello. I have a 2022 Venue SX 1.2 Petrol MT variant and it is perfect for city driving. It gives me 10 in bumper to bumper traffic and up to 13 on open roads. The only problem is this engine loses its steam after 100 km/h on highways, but since your driving is majorly in the city you can go for the 1.2 engine with either the Sonet or Venue.
Alternatively, Brezza would be a really good choice since it is the only one which gives the 1.5L engine and you have a choice of CNG as well. I agree the interiors are a bit bland but you would get a fuel efficient, fuss free and low maintenance car.

The Sonet DCT is a hoot to drive but again you would have to compromise a bit on fuel efficiency and maintenance would be higher.

I own a Sonet HTX DCT myself, and it's an excellent car, but you will not get 12+ mileage in City (90% of your usage). For highways this car is amazing, no tiredness whatsoever. I get around 9-12 in city and 14-16 in highways with AC always on and 3 people on-board + luggage loaded in highways.

If Sunroof is not critical, then Fronx would be a really good option.
Otherwise, Venue similar to Sonet but cheaper and offers 7 years extended warranty (given you have a car of 12 years now).
If superior engine is not key, even Tata Punch is also pretty good option.

If you are ok with tata then Punch can be a good contender. My friend had sonet 1.2g 5mt it was good car except the ride was very harsh. Now he bought Nexon and the ride is very good compared to sonet, no noise of the suspension but there was a small issue which was rectified by the ass. Also the fit and finish of Sonet was better than Nexon Please test drive all the options in your budget and then decide.
Best of luck.

After hearing all the negative TATA ass experience, I am not comofrtable buying a tata, the only plus point it has over other cars is the 5star safety rating but sonet/venue negates that with airbags and other safety features

You can go for Hyundai Exter as well, it has Sunroof, good room, decent boot and only disadvantage is AMT gearbox but price around 11.5L in Bengaluru for mid trim which is great.

As a Sonet (june 2021) HTX iMT owner, I could help. Both the HTK+ and HTX DCT could satisfy all your requirements. The DCT would slightly deliver lesser mileage, I manage a 14 KMPL in my city drives with moderate traffic. DCT in bumper to bumper traffic would manage about 10. But considering 90% usage is city drives, you could go with HTK+ and NA motor.

To me, the above statement says it all. It's actually a no-brainer, unless you feel the additional 4 lakh can be spent elsewhere that can make you fall in love.

If you intend to keep the car for long time, (around 7-10 years) then the additional 4L budget is worth spending.
