Doesn't matter as long as they come out of their fantasies and imagination with brand loyalty without facts.

Liking or disliking a car is understandable, but brand endorsement based on 10 year old memories TODAY

I believe the people are not automatons buying cars without informed opinions and pulled only by marketing, they have access to plenty of reviews and news on YouTube unlike 10 years back and know the pluses and minuses of the cars they are getting into and we should respect their decisions regardless of if we like it or not.
Yes, every car has pluses and minuses and there are tons of reviews available online to understand a car fully before finalizing one. However, in my opinion, many car buyers prioritize features and fuel economy over safety. Otherwise, Maruti and Hyundai would not have been so successful in India. They exactly know the pulse of Indian customers. Of course, their scale of operations is also helping them.

In India, 90% of the people would not wear a helmet while driving a 2-wheeler unless the government compels them to do so. That is the value they give to their lives. They are optimistic that nothing would go wrong when they drive. When the same people own a car, do you think they will give importance to safety first? Reading any number of car reviews will not help, because in most of the families, it is the father, wife or child that decides the car and whose decisions are based on what mileage the car can give (father's priority), or how the car looks (wife's priority) and whether it comes with a panoramic sun roof (child's priority) or not. In most of the cases, the decision makers, unfortunately, are neither following the team bhp threads or watching YouTube reviews!

Re: Honda Elevate Review

Not sure why people think this car is decade old. Yes, it's not flashy for sure but it's design is simple and none will get offended with it. I liked it and it is better than Hyundai designs for sure. Interiors are really good and gives premium feel for sure. Ground clearance is massive & you can easily take it over for small off-roading stuff. Also people are forgetting one thing, it's Honda after all. It means a lot to many people, they can blindly trust.

Pricing is key now. I think they should match Grand Vitara pricing or may be launch at lesser price (read attractive) so as tp surprise market which is already very crowded in this segment. If this car don't get success, Honda has some tough days ahead.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

Thanks for the review. I had almost booked a Taigun 1.0 but wanted to wait to see what Elevate had to offer. The main takeaway from this detailed review for me is that I cannot discount Elevate yet and it all boils down to pricing and then a test drive to confirm. Below is my take (I compare with Taigun 1.0 mainly as it is still is an option I consider)
  • features: lack of features was known before. So not really surprised. Compared to Taigun I will miss ventilated seats mainly. I’m glad that pano sunroof is not offered as I hear my friends complain about cabin getting heated up due to it.
  • looks: Taigun is hands down better looking. But looks are not deciding factor for me (still it would need some convincing of home minister though)
  • Engine/Ride: I’m glad that all reviews claim good ride quality and handling. This is a strong point for Taigun but going by reviews Elevate is not lagging too much. I have driven Honda CVT and while it cannot match TSI in acceleration, for most real life condition it is more refined
  • Maintenance/ASS/Reliability : Probably the only ‘gain’ from missing features is that maintenance should be easier? 😊 Anyway I expect it to be more reliable than Taigun definitely and this could be the deal breaker for me

Re: Honda Elevate Review

The optimist in me would have loved to see a Hybrid option too. But if I'm being realistic, would I buy the Honda City Hybrid which costs a whopping 5 lakhs more on road when compared to Honda City, just for the powertrain? Nope, definitely not. Honda's hybrid system is expensive. How many of us would be praising (let alone buying) a hybrid option if Elevate Hybrid's price breached 25 lakhs on road (Bangalore numbers). We can crib about the lack of hybrid option all day long, but in all reality, there would be far too less takers of the product if it was indeed launched. I'm guessing Honda analysts would have realised this fact looking at the City vs Hybrid City numbers and decided to reduce the upfront R&D costs of making the Elevant Hybrid compatible.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

For me the biggest gripe would be the fuel tank capacity of 40L, it's woefully inadequate in the Honda City just imagine how frequently you may have to visit the fuel pump in an SUV that's almost 150 kgs heavier and with brick like aerodynamics of the Elevate.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

If Honda had to choose between Hybrid and ADAS, I would have preferred Honda to choose the former. Hybrid is all-time useful feature compared to ADAS which can be useful only in certain situations.

ADAS and a hybrid powertrain are two completely different systems.

The incremental cost of the latter will be 10x the former.

The ARAI number is already lower than the City for the Elevate. If they had provided a 50L tank, it would have increased the car weight by another 10+ kg and the ARAI numbers would have become still lower.
Also, since Elevate is based on the City platform, may be they could not increase the tank size further. Experts can confirm.
The city was always under-tyred which also contributed positively to its fuel efficiency. In the case of Elevate, Honda has provided a proper sized tyre and I'm really happy about it.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

Is it just me or the Honda manual gear stick looks extremely out of place and ghastly. I am also curious to know why is Honda doing all the media drives in the manual transmission model? I think they have a very sorted CVT which appeals more to the urban population (Honda's home pitch).

Mod Note: No more off-topic posts please. Hyundai-Kia cars can be discussed on their respective threads. Thank you!

Agree. It doesn't look suited to a 15 L car.

While we are there, the CVT gear stick also looks extremely bare-bones. I mean, just look at Elevate's and Creta CVT's gear knob side-by-side and you would be aghast.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

Good video review by Zigwheels and I like their new presentation style for this one.

They also talk about the limitations of the Honda's Camera based ADAS systems as opposed to the more better equipped ADAS systems of competition. Also they talk this as per their experience with City's Camera based ADAS and the missing ADAS features of the Elevate like Rear Cross traffic alerts and the Blindspot monitoring, as compared to the Seltos/Astor's ADAS which is better equipped. IMO, this is also one more evidence of how the even the ADAS is another half hearted attempt from Honda's end.

Skip to 18:15 for Limitations of ADAS.

I agree. I am someone who is spoilt by the superb range of my Ecosport S TDCI. It's got a 52 L tank, and on my long highway drives, I am able to easily extract a 1000 KM range. While the Diesel vs petrol deficit will always be there, what's with just a 40L tank? AFAIK, even the Amaze has a 35L tank capacity. With the terribly low FE number of Elevate, the capacity atleast should have been a 50-55L.

So does that mean that the radar based ADAS of MG is better than the camera based ADAS of Tesla? Radar has repeatedly been proven to be unreliable. And that's the reason why even Tesla is moving away from it. It means you'll get lesser capabilities. But it also reduces the chances of a fatal mistake in judgement.

Radars have insufficient resolution and high noise. In combination with camera limitations, this is why there have been multiple reports of Tesla vehicles crashing into stationary objects

Please watch the video at least. Nowhere has it been compared with Tesla's ADAS system (Pretty sure neither can we compare the ADAS of a Tesla with Honda's City/Elevate). The video makers have been comparing the Honda's Camera based ADAS with their experience of using the same with the City and Elevate. This has been compared with Seltos's ADAS which they claim to be the best calibrated system in this segment (TBhp's review of Seltos concurs the same).
