Re: Honda Elevate Review

Team, here’s my review, (apart from what I have read here), on the first 1000 kms.

Pros:
1. Digital Instrument Cluster: My standard view is the G-Meter. My personal Ego meter. I find it very useful to mind my driving style which translates to better road manners. I simply let the aggressive ones pass.
2. Reverse Parking camera and sensors: The camera has good resolution and a very clear view. I find that the sensors have good range in terms area of coverage (includes the sides)
3. Engine: Super refined. I do not see lag in this 1.5 litre when I switch the A/C on and off.
4. Drive modes I love: D on highways (2 lane or more); S on highways (single lane and hills). S - is so much fun that I am reminded of VW Turbo diesel.
5. Headlight: One of the best stocks I have seen in a vehicle I have bought yet. Its spread and reach exceeds my expectations
6. Auto-headlights: Love this feature on Honda. Sensors are highly sensitive to turn on, however to turn off - it take a good 3-4 seconds. Again it depends on the cover over head.

Cons:
1. Noise: Please note that I have observed ONLY Noise levels. There is absolutely no vibration or harshness, hence I did not mention NVH. Noise seeping inside the cabin is way too much. On highways it gets worse with the tire noise.
2. Digital Instrument Cluster: I thought the fuel gauge or indication could’ve been placed better considering driver ergonomics (regardless of the height). I have to strive to look at it.
3. Controls for Digital Instrument Cluster: There is no dedicated back button, one has to use the home button instead.
4. Leatherette seats: This is when I miss the ventilated or fabric seats. My back sweats so much it just spoil my top. Definitely not meant for the Indian Summer
5. Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS): Is pain for Indian roads, however is a good addition. I turn it off in the city/towns. You can not deactivate it when you’re in D/S modes. If you try, it just gets reactivated. So I go to P - with engine on - deactivate it. This stays until the next engine turn off.
6. Heat from the car: On a hot day or a long run (4+ hours of continuous driving), the moment you step out of the car, there is a gush of hot air from underneath the car to its sides. Specifically if you’re seated in the front. Observed this 2 times.
7. Left side-view mirror: I found it difficult to check/use as it took longer for me to check and be back minding the road.

I am happy with the investment and always a pleasure to drive this car.

Man, this has to be the most honest, well rounded and to the point review of the Elevate. Guy is speaking the truth, bluntly.

Hey! I am considering getting the Elevate. May I know where you heard this from?

Also, if someone could confirm this here?

It has not even been a year since the car was launched. There is no facelift happening in the near future.

Re: Honda Elevate Review

As a person who has a Honda City CVT, Elevate failed to impress me. I felt the engine is more vocal and there's more road noise than many cars many rungs below. Elevate has "refinement" issues, the missed features I can live with but "refinement" had to be good at this price point, I had a problem with my brief 5-6 kms test drive it self: my 7 year old Honda City had better refinement on the same roads as compared to the Elevate. Honda has cut a lot of corners and remains to be seen how it fares at the NCAP (global/local). To top it all there're huge discounts to be had from the pic. I've been kept up to date by the sales team that got in touch after the TD. I've no problems recommending the Honda City but Elevate is hard to recommend.

True indeed, this was the deal breaker for me as well. My wife and I both felt thigh support lacking in an otherwise good car with nice leather upholstery, commanding position, camera based ADAS, etc. I have a Kushaq and its seats are far more comfortable, especially the thigh support. Even the dealership folks agreed on that point and asked me to check the City! And the City is still more comfortable I felt and its only the GC and lesser features compared to Hyundai that makes itself felt!

Instead of the Elevate, I went for a Verna DCT with all the bells and whistles and I am satisfied with the comfort and the features!

I will still look out for new variants of Honda in the future and hopefully their CR-V or some Turbo petrols, since with Honda reliability is guaranteed. It is time they got their other models to India too! Elevate EV might also be good, if they can sort the thigh support issue.

Reverse parking sensors having good side coverage - This is something I also noticed as very good. And headlights are really good.
Leatherette seats looks good but I used to drive a Ritz with fabric seats. They are very good for our summers.

I have not changed the head unit but speakers and added amplifier and subwoofer.
Please tell me the type of material used in seat covers and tan matching interiors/side panels costing? Also, do you have any experience with morel Maximos 6 compared to focal speakers?

The material used in covers is some Indian catalog called USC/Yoko which had different samples to choose from. Its also used in plenty by sofa makers. The material is good and very smooth texture. Covers cost was 13K. You can also go with Autoform. Their material was bit thin but their fitment is awesome. But they take only make as per orders and minimum time is 15 days.
Door and dashboard paint cost was 5K and took 3 days to open, paint and reassemble. Was quoted from 10K to 20K but went with a reference garage guy with reasonable cost. The paint colour provider can match any shade with seat covers using their computer/software. Also apply plastic primer initially. Result is awesome.

No idea on maximos. Focal component are not bass dominant. If you want baas, focal is not for you. I bought online from motorougue. The price was quiet less compared to retail stores. Local shops will force to go for amp. Do try without amp initially. Add amp only if necessary.

Multiple people said that they are waiting for the software update from Alpine, some service centers replaced the head unit also but the issue will only rectified by a software update.

Purchasing a Honda Elevate in exchange for a Hyundai Venue

Hi!
We are in the process of buying a Honda Elevate as our Hyundai Venue (2021) has been a huge pain since the past month, you can find a detailed explanation of what happened to the venue in this thread:

Coming back to the Elevate, here are my reasons to buy it and questions:
-We are exchanging the Venue directly to the dealership hoping for a higher evaluation than outside buyers, Cars24, OLX, etc.
-Our Honda Jazz(2016, 1.3L km) has served us amazingly and it runs butter smooth to this day so we plan on using it for at least another 3 years.
-The above point proves the reliability of a Honda engine, hence we can blindly trust that the Elevate won't disappoint us in the engine department.
-We are getting it for around 20.5L On-road Hyderabad including optionals worth 40k which we will not get as I find them of not much use, which makes it likely that we will get it for under 20L.
-A 4.3 metre SUV with a great engine and reliability under 20L is quite the deal in my opinion.
-AFAIK, due to it's reliability, the Elevate won't have problems like the Venue which I mentioned in the quoted post.
-Dealership says no waiting period as of now and that most colours are available.

Questions:
-How much can I expect for the Hyundai Venue(2021, 66000KM, not more than 4-5 scratches on the car, that too they're only visible if observed closely, maintained very neatly inside). We purchased it for 13.3L on-road Hyd. Is an expectation of 9-10L too high?
-What are some red flags from the dealership I should be careful about while buying the Elevate? We will be adamant about a PDI before the invoice is generated because once it is generated, we are helpless.
-Pride Honda (Madhapur, Hyd) is charging 5k for logistics and 12k for so called 'Basic Accessory Kit'. Can I refuse to pay these charges?
-Sundaram Honda (Secunderabad) is charging 12k for 'Basic Kit' (I think both dealers are offering the same Kit) and an absurd 34k for Signature Spoiler Kit. Shocking thing is this kit is not even a part of the 'optionals' section in the price sheet.
-I am quite sure the car will have a few swirl marks even if it is in the yard, I'm quite cranky when it comes to how neat the car is, so can I demand the dealership to place an order for the variant and colour I want specifically for my purchase or will they refuse?
-I think a new order will ensure there are as less swirl marks as possible, and obviously a more recently manufactured car as it comes from the factory.

Regards,
hoopsandbhp

Though it had it's strengths, the BR-V never took off in the face of strong competition from the Creta, and later it was discontinued.

Well, the wait is over and we have the new Elevate which brings the City's engine and CVT gearbox once more. The big squarish front has it's own unique identity, and you are unlikely to mistake this for any other vehicle. But somewhere it looks a little too compact, and has an uncanny resemblance to the Magnite from the side profile.

Inside, the seats are comfortable, there is a nice tan theme (on the higher variants only) and it is certainly airy and full of light unlike the swooping constricted interiors we see nowadays. But I didn't like the hard plastics throughout, plus some switches are damn cheap.

The rear seats are really nice and comfortable too, but the rear armrest slopes down at an uncomfortable angle too much. The middle seat has a rather pronounced hump. And the boot is quite large too.

The sunroof was small but felt adequate for the driver. The quality is infinitely better than the mosquito net of the Hyrider / Grand Vitara.

Both the gear shifter and handbrake could have been presented better, in keeping with the rest of the interiors. Here, I thought they looked rather ordinary.

On the go, the steering felt nice and communicative, but the engine was slightly vocal when I gave it full throttle. The suspension felt very good in controlling bad patches of road. Also, in tight gaps, the Elevate can nudge in where a bigger car would balk at. Plus, you can see the flat bonnet which is helpful.

At the end of my test drive, I was rather happy with it overall, especially given the great pricing that they have offered, and the typical Honda reliability. Yes, I wish it was a little more plush, because you only have to step into the Honda City to see the differences (complete with electronic parking brake, hybrid-petrol engine, the works).

Maybe that true Honda City crossover is yet to come in a plush form later.
Yep. It's a start with maybe more to follow later:
1) Hybrid & Electric variants
2) Multi-link suspension at the rear
3) Ventilated seats
4) Rear AC blower controls

An invoice will be generated once it is allotted to you and then you can pay the full amount. I paid the car amount after allotment and kept the registration etc unpaid so I could pay later after checking the car.

Logistics charges are non-negotiable by honda dealers. But I think you can refuse accessories now as there is not much demand.
Initially, they forced us to buy the basic kit.

You should check the VIN of the car before booking if it is already available at the dealer so you will get an idea of the manufacturing month. If you ask for a specific demand of colour then you have to wait for a while. I think golden brown, dual-tone, and grey are more in demand.

  1. Both Pride Miyapur and Sundaram Honda told they don't have this logistic charge 2 months ago. I showed the same to Green Honda and got it waived. Let me know if you want me to get you in touch with sales people of mine if it helps in reducing your charges.
  2. Check for outside insurance, if you haven't already. I saved about 30k on that.
  3. Green Honda was willing to exclude basic accessory kit. I took it anyway eventually though.
