Re: Maruti Jimny Review

I bought my Jimny Alpha AT in July this year, and have clocked around 2000 KMS. Of late my job hasn't allowed much time for me to take it on a holiday.

Recently, I did a 400 KM day trip to Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, near Hyderabad, and I agree with observations from PrideRed. It's a cheeky little car, that just oozes personality in buckets. It's always asking involvement while driving, has built-in most creature comforts that I was looking for and potential to make it my own with customization options.

My only gripe is a relatively wide turning radius, which honestly, I mostly bothers me in parking spaces.

I am hoping upcoming holidays in December will allow me to take a road trip and explore the country with Jimny.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Has anyone tried DOT 4 or higher grade brake fluid on the Jimny?
It does have modern tech like ABS and ESP which requires DOT 4 or higher Fluid, but manufacturer recommended brake fluid is DOT 3.

Well, Yes Maruti Suzuki being the manufacturer of the Jimny, They know best.
But knowing Maruti Suzuki and its low maintenance charge claims, they might have recommended DOT3 to keep the costs down.

Or do the thicker profile really make an discernable difference for an average Jimny user who isn't much into serious / extreme off-roading on regular basis.
This question is not for me but still answering as most of my drives involve highway drives and rural drives. I have done 8500Kms approx., and all on stock tyres.

They perform pretty good at normal highway speeds of 80-100 kmph. Bad roads are my best friends and going thru rural areas is great. Jimny cruises past vehicles on those. Lane changes etc. are pretty easily handled.

I think Suzuki has done a great job with tyre quality, tyre size. They provide the right mix of performance on all types of roads. I use throttle controller as well, that makes overtaking easy.

Two benefits I see with tyre upsize would be breaking, and higher stability on turns if you are going fast.

However, benefits in terms of overall performance, and ride quality make stock tyre size well suited for most drivers imho. Probably A/T is required if one intends to do significant off-roading such as rock-crawling.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Noticed a bit of oil or grease sweating on the steering ball joint on the driver's side. Wondering whether anyone faced a similar issue? Any idea what may be causing this? My Jimny has done around 13k primarily on tarmac.

The joint on the left side looks bone dry in comparison.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Another Sunday spent making small changes to the Jimny. Went to Raju/Rahul in Palika Bhawan, New Delhi and got the steering wheel wrapped. Till now, I had only heard good things about them. But the quality of work needs to be seen to believe. This is better than OEM. Took them a couple of hours and charged me INR 2,200.

Details of the shop can be found in this thread.

After using it for 6k kms, must say it's a great addition to Zeta.

Initially I thought that the stock Bridgestone Dueler HT tyres would be good enough for my use case of Tarmac (80%) + light off-the-tarmac (20%) driving; and hence, didn't upgrade them to any A/T. However, after a number of sidewall burst reported by members of various Jimny user groups (off-the-tarmac, broken tarmac root cause), I can't say this anymore.

After my recent trip to Ladakh, I could notice the driver's side tyre is damaged considerably than other 3 tyres. This could be due to misalignment which I am yet to check/ correct (service centres asked me to visit on weekdays). Didn't do any tough or serious off-roading in my last trip. It was only regular broken patches and 40-50 km of Shyok river route. Recently one of our fellow Jimny owner friend reported a sidewall burst when his car hit the road side footpath (no marking for narrowing road, night time incident) at low speed (~40 kmph).

I am keeping OEM MSIL recommended tyre pressure. Tyres are 13800 km old, I did 5 tyre rotation at 5k and 10k km services. Attaching few photographs of my tyre condition.

How has it aged in 6 months? I showed your post when choosing mine. I wanted exactly what you got.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

I need some suggestions regarding a Jimny Alpha MT that I am interested in.
The Nexa dealer has a red Jimny which I want. I took a short test drive and have a few questions -

1. The odometer shows that this particular car was driven for 114 kms. The dealer says that it is a showroom display car and has not been used for demo purpose. They said all new cars are driven for 50-60 kms for testing. The rest accumulated due to transit from the unloading yard to the dealership. Is this the case for all new cars ?

2. On pressing them; it was found out that the car was dispatched from the manufacturing plant on 31st January 2024. The dealer says that the manufacturing date and the dispatch date are one and the same. Is this logical?

3. I insisted for test drive in this car and they begrudgingly agreed since no other Jimnys were available. Everything went on smoothly. But the vibration of the gear lever is what concerned me. Is it natural in Jimnys ?

4. On completing the TD for about 5 kms, we opened the bonnet to have a look inside. While opening it, I was surprised that the bonnet was warmer than most cars would be. Our 12 year I10 doesn't heat up that much. Is it because there are no insulation pads on the bonnet of the Jimny or is it that this engine just runs hot ?

5. One thing that irked me is that this car was already furnished with all the plastic trims, floor carpet, door visors, seat covers, premium spare tyre cover and all. Why should a new car be decked like that. What if a customer does not want to avail those accessories ? Does it mean that this particular car is actually their demo car ?

6. Do I have scope to bargain here. Considering the odo reading, manufacturing date and my suspicions ?

Forget about all the other points - this is a red flag for sure. There is no way all this is factory fitted. At best, this was a showroom display car. Given the current discounts that on hand, why don't you just book a brand new car? The waiting period can't be that much, considering how popular the car is

Also, the manufacturing date(month) can easily be determined by the VIN. If the dealer is not being transparent, I would suggest you walk.

100 plus k on the odo is not a big deal if there is an explanation for it - my own car had 112k on the odo, because the dealer's stockyard is in Karnal. But my gut feel is that this dealer is being a bit evasive, taking into consideration the other concerns you have raised.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

You can check the VIN easily from two place:
1. The QC check sticker on the quater panel (usually on right side quater panel),
2. Stamped plate when you open the driver's door and bend a little.
Silently check at these two places.

Another stamping is done on the BOF chassis, visible from rear wheel arch (cumbersome to take note of the VIN and showroom guys can understand what you are doing there).

From the VIN number, you can understand the manufacturing month and year. I won't buy anything from 2023 inventory unless they offer a huge discount and the vehicle is for recreation purpose (a strict no for single car of household, first buy etc.).

Slight gear shift vibration is normal for the Jimny.

Higher heat dissipation from the bonnet is also okay.

Check the engine bay condition, dust deposit on pedals, footwell nearby area (presence of dust, soil, scratch marks).

Check the gap between body panel and windshield, other fixed glasses like quater panel, rear windshield. Do they look like washed many times and have permanent dust-water marks? Any minute marks of wax/ shining solutions present there?

Check cold start engine exhaust fume colour, is it settling to almost transparent smoke quickly?

For Jan 2024 mfd Jimny, you should negotiate for 10-15% extra discount over and above the maximum discount at your location.

Whoa !! What a beauty ! Absolutely gorgeous transformation.

The whole car was painted or only the black parts ?

I am also looking at something like this. The black roof on the red Alpha Jimny is just an eyesore. Waste of money too. The dual tone variant is around 15000 costlier. Maruti should not have done this. Customers must be given the liberty to choose their preferred colours. Dual tone paint might not be acceptable to all.
