Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Did a short trip to Tehri-Kanatal, UK from NCR covering 765 kms in 2 days. Jimny also crossed 7,000 KMs on the odo. Apart from the off-center steering wheel, ownership has been great so far. My father who is the primary user of the car is extremely satisfied with the purchase.

Sharing some pictures from the trip:

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Time flies. Done with first free service of my Jimny 2 days back.
It had clocked only 350kms, since I was out of town for few days.

Nothing much to write about, since it was a generic checkup. Air filter and engine bay cleaned, checked underbody and oil levels followed by a good wash. Was in and out in flat 2.5 hours. (30 mins went by just to get the billing and gate pass done). Billed @40rs.

Though it was first service, I myself had to proactively take appointment, follow up, even ask them to bill it post service, just luke warm response from Maruti. Not too good, not too bad, can say decent(I receive the same kind of response for my father's Ertiga too, so no much expectations and no complaints.

Jimny after a short monsoon drive.
Jimny looks good both when clean and muddy.

Washing team did a good job.

Spick and span. With the company of another red Jimny.

Hope to drive more in coming days.

This is what I do: Shift to N and then turn OFF the engine. The music system stays ON. Then shift to P.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Update after 3rd service and some extra fittings
The third service went uneventful with mandatory Oil change,AC filter replacement and general body check.
Meanwhile I had done few mods to Jimny
1.Sound damping with 1.2inch sheets.
I had all four doors and the floor soundproofed, hoping it would reduce drive shaft vibrations in low gears, but I didn’t notice much of a difference. The only noticeable benefit so far is improved sound quality from the speakers. I’m now planning to add sound damping to the bonnet and some areas of the engine bay, hoping it will make a more noticeable difference. However I will not recommend it.
2.Tire upgrade to 215/75R15.
I decided to go a different route and upgraded to Apollo HT 2 tires, primarily to improve braking performance, and it seems the upgrade was worth it. However, I’ve noticed that the ride has become a bit stiffer compared to the stock tires. It appears that the best ride quality in the Jimny might be with the original tires. Additionally, the tire upgrade has caused a slight drop in fuel efficiency, by about 1 to 1.5 km/l.

3.Added a 70 mai rearview dash cam.
I purchased it from Amazon for 16K, and it records both the front and rear views simultaneously. The video quality is generally good. The screen can display both front and rear video feeds at the same time, and it can also be used as a regular rearview mirror when switched off. I think it’s a great addition to the car. It also comes with a few predefined voice commands, which are very convenient to use while driving.

Maruti Jimny Review-whatsapp-image-20240903-18.18.43-5.jpeg. Rear view in switch off mode.

Future mods in the pipeline with AM racing Delhi
1.Tanabe adjustable shocks
2.Steering damper
3.Body mounts
4.Extended rear bump stops
5.Front strut brace and under brace.
Kindly update the ride and stability difference if any one has done the above said mods. Thanks in advance.
Happy motoring.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

My first post here.
Hello Everyone,

I got myself a Jimny Alpha MT in July 2024 as the discounts were irresistible and I had an itch to get myself something compact but with high GC since I’ve done the Spiti circuit twice in my ex-car Celerio and seen Gypsy’s and Jimny’s just flying over the bad roads.

Accessories installed from Kashmere Gate:
Mudflaps-250 INR
Window Visors- 400 INR
Side Cladding - 900 INR
Steering Lock - 800 INR
TPE Floor Mats(GFX Type) - 2200 INR

One month and 1600 Kms later, I’m amazed by what this car can do when the going gets tough. Over the course of 1 month, I’ve driven through flooded NCR roads, did some mild off-roading in the hills of Alwar and did a highway run as well. Plants a smile on my face every time I drive it! It’s an attention magnet and people do come up and ask about the car wherever I park. Maybe I’ll do a detailed ownership review after sometime.

First free service/checkup was done at Maruti Service Masters, Sahibabad. Reached at 10-30 am on a Friday and was free by 1pm. Found the staff to be dedicated which is something I’ve not experienced over the 8 year ownership of my Celerio. Told them to lift the car so I could see if the propeller shaft rubbing issue is there, and the test turned out negative which had me relieved. The service center folks were clueless that such an issue is existing and I showed them samples from teambhp and they confidently said it can’t touch the cross-member at all. I realised it was of no use reasoning with them and left for home.
Overall Service Experience- 8.5/10
Cost- 0

Numbers for those so inclined.

FE log with odo @ 7200 km. Stock Alpha AT with 215 patch Yokohama rubber. Mixed driving cycle, not used as a rush-hour commuter, though Bangalore traffic is 'rush hour' pretty much 24/7 nowadays.

P.S.: Driving style, within reasonable limits, seems to make little difference to FE; city or highway. This powertrain is the 'eh, whatever' antithesis of turbo-petrol ATs.

Congrats and happy driving. I haven’t really got a chance to park it in the sun for longer periods and so can’t say about the roof crackle thing. These are manufactured in the same factory as Nexa branded Accessories and are of same if not better quality than Nexa ones. The branding makes the Nexa ones expensive . I can share the contact for the Mats, he ships all over India - +91 99993 91520 (Shivam Goel, TPE Mats). The mats are of much better quality than Nexa ones, everyone who sits instantly appreciates the fit and finish including the Service center folks. Rest of the accessories I got from a wholesaler through a contact so he doesn’t deal in retail.

My MT does return consistent 11-12 in town, 9-11 in Bangalore and 14-16 in highway. I am running stock tires . Find this pretty decent for a boxy 4WD mini SUV.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

I got delivery of my Granite Grey Alpha AT last week and enjoying every bit of it. I have just been doing Home-Office-Home and have not taken it out yet. Few things I did and did not..

I did not change the tyres as I want to use the OE tyres for sometime to see and decide, as anyways the buy back is very poor.

Replaced the front grill to a Classic styled one and kept the OEM grill safely packed. Will decide on how to repaint the OE one and use it as an option

Other little additions to make the Jimny convenient :
  1. Placed GFX floor mats
  2. Added Armoro centre consol storage
  3. Ordered a Canvas Molle system for seat back + few Molle pouches from Oliveplanet.in - Yet to receive, but I guess they will look awesome in this car to keep small items like cables, mobiles etc.,
  4. Also bought a seat back Armoro organiser with place to hold two full size water bottles and a large storage space
  5. Bought an Armoro bag for the grab handle area
  6. Ordered a full set of Armoro Canvas seat covers - I know the question will come up on the "Airbag" - I thought about it very long and had discussions with the manufacturer and he promises that they have made these covers like for International standards and the threads used in the seam where the Airbag opens is of a special quality and it will not hinder, just in case. Anyways, I am taking a chance hoping it would not be required, and to protect the seats from my Dog's hair and making the Whole Jimny Canvassed
  7. Added a 4x4 emblem at the rear + couple of Rhino stickers on the door bottom.
  8. Placed door ajar warning stickers and have bought a Magnetic Mobile phone holder

Some might wonder, where are the standard Jimny accessories everyone buys - like, arm rest, dashboard tray, centre console tray etc., - The armrest is occupying space already between a cramped space. For the others, I went for these Canvas options to keep stuff.

I will post some images soon, hopefully during this weekend of all this I have done.

Throttle controller ? Contemplating, but a days go by, I am feeling used to the Throttle sensitivity and modulations and hence would wait to put the money on.

One modification i will do is - to make a nice storage box which will level out and make it as a flat floor when the rear seats are folded down. This will enable me to take my Dog very comfortably. I am sure this can be done effectively. Will post once i get on with this Mod.

Lots of great information in this thread and it helped me buy the Jimny. Thanks to everyone who have contributed.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Hi everyone,

Here are a few updates on my Jimny alpha at:

1. The first service went smoothly. Nothing unexpected.

2. A biker crashed his front into my jimny resulting in a broken tail lamp glass ( i have attached a pic). I enquired with Nexa Roorkee for the replacement, but they dont have it in stock and will order. It should cost around 1k. I would really appreciate if someone could advice me regarding tail lamp cover. I could find one available on amazon and need advice on whether a better one is available anywhere.

3. Driving experience remains rock solid. Though it's early days and no adventure done yet. Jimny is my primary car now and it is very well suited to my needs.

Will revert with more.

Happy driving

Hi Vulken. My roof crackles too. It's a black roof. I was driving in the sun with the AC went directed towards it. I then came to a stop sitting under the tree with the AC on for about another 10 mins. I then switched off the AC and then within half a min or so the crackling began. I then turned on the AC with the vent directed towards it and it stopped, switched it off and then it came back for a bit. The crackling lasted for a minute. Moved the AC vents away from it, kept it on for a bit and then switched it off and the crackling did not happen again. If the AC vent is not directed towards it then it never crackles no matter how hot it in outside. Been driving it for 15 days and this was the only time it happened. If there's any addition to my experience about this, I'll let you know.

Not just the Tail lamp cover, you can get whatever you want directly from Amazon.jp. Though I have not bought anything yet from them, you might get the best quality straight from there. It automatically calculates a landing price for you including duties, taxes etc., When you convert that to INR, it is almost equal to the price you might get locally from sellers in India. Some brands like SEIWA, SEIKOU, YOCTM sells most of these small stuff for Jimny and seems good quality. Try it out.
