Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Quick question to owners.
A friend bought the Hilux AT yesterday. It came with 265/60R18 Bridgestones and he's thinking of getting 285/60r18s fit without any other mods. Will the upsize work fine without any fouling on turns? Any folks here who have gone through this upsize?

Thanks!

I would suggest going for BFG KO2 in stock size from the dealer with warranty, these are best looking and best performing offroad. Even tyre noise is minimal on tarmac and concrete.

Only the tyre grip on wet road I heard can be a problem, but can be fixed by carrying some weight in the truck bed.

You really don't need wider than 265 even for serious off-roading. They already look super wide at 265.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

The tire touches the mud Flap on full turn and suspension compression. Else it doesn't give any trouble.

The 285 is a much better option than 265 because the 265 is a harder tire compared to the 285 owing to the lesser sidewall available.

Unless he really needs it, stick to the stock size. It's not under-tired by any means. Swtich to set of good AT tyres and he should be good. Geolanders, Silentrac, and Apterra AT2 are some solid options without overspending.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

So this Hilux got a few upgrades.
285 section BFGs, CarryBoy Electric Roller Shutter, Metal House Underbody from Bluegarage and a full Tough Dog Suspension Setup including the UCAs again from Bluegarage.
The ride is nice and comfy when the adjustable suspension is set to soft and very tight on highways when set to hard. Adjustability takes less than a minute for all 4 shockers. Rebound is what is adjusted. These are Foam Cell by the way.
Absolute bang for buck! They kick way above their price bracket. The lift is also minimal at just 40mm which I wanted to be minimal since this is a daily drive.

Oh and nope, the tires don't rub anywhere anymore.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Did anyone upgrade the stock LED headlight bulbs on the Hilux AT, can you provide some recommendations?

I feel the headlight is not as good as the HID ones on the BMWs.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

I'm planning a stealth setup behind the grill. A 20 inch Hella bar coupled with 2 Hella cubes with orange filter covers. Should be good enough for any highway drives.

As for the stock units, I got them adjusted at a friend's workshop who is known to setup perfectly aligned headlamps. Lighting is good enough for normal highway runs as well as city.

Still for the extreme lighting would go for hellas. Great bang for buck scenario. Anything incrementally better would cost a bomb!

Since stock headlamps are probably a sealed unit wouldn't really want to mess with them.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

The Toyota IMV 0 (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle) – also known as the Rangga – is one of the coolest upcoming pickup trucks thanks to its no-frills multi-purpose character. After showcasing various concepts in Indonesia last August, Toyota is now introducing additional variants of the IMV 0 at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, further fueling our anticipation for the forthcoming production version expected to debut next year.

The Toyota IMV 0 – originally introduced in concept form in December 2022 – measures 5,300 mm (208.7 inches) long, 1,785 mm (70.3 inches) wide, and 1,740 mm (68.5 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 3,085 mm (121.5 inches). This means it is about the same size as the existing Toyota HiLux, sharing an identical wheelbase. The truck is based on ladder-frame underpinnings with leaf spring suspension at the rear axle. Reports suggest it will be offered with diesel, petrol, hybrid, and fully electric powertrains, although Toyota has yet to release detailed specifications.

The production version of the Toyota IMV 0 is anticipated to make its debut in 2024, targeting emerging markets with a price point below that of the HiLux.

Looks like closer to production form than the ones showed in Indonesia and Phillipines.

Was expecting an MUV also based on this and to be frank thought the 500D SUV project (junior Fortuner) was a wagon version of this IMV0 model. But then all these Compact Cruiser/Land Hopper/Mini Cruiser news is confusing.

My bet is it is still a Hilux underneath, albeit in a cheaper form. More utilitarian, plus for the fact that the next gen Hilux will probably go onto the much more expensive TNGA-F platform.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

The 'Mini Hilux'(IMV 0) appears in Japan.
Quote:
IMV 2022 suddenly revealed to the press in 0 on the Thai circuit. The vehicle was developed to support Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries, but the concept is "a car that supports freedom of movement and economic growth," as Chairman Akio Toyoda stated
Quote:
look around the inside of the car roughly, it is almost resin, there are no soft pads, and there are no side airbags. When you get into the seat, you will remember a seating position like a light truck.
Quote:
The philosophy is that the IMV 0 is delivered in 70% condition, and the owner will complete the remaining 30% by installing the car. After all, the loading platform is just a flat board with no doors, and it's exactly the same idea as a truck.
Therefore, just like the "HILUX" on the instrument panel, it may be named "Hilux XX" in Japan.

The interiors looks sweet. Basic and functional. From the earlier IMV0 and Ranggaa concepts, looks like they have changed the steering wheel from a Yaris(?) based one to the one on the Hilux. They also had showed lots of modular accessories to make the dashboard into a workplace.

Just hope that they decide later on to give it a version with flush loadbed and maybe a wagon version too (a la back to Kijang/Qualis roots)

Are we seeing the proto version of the 500D mini Fortuner? Or is that the Land Hopper/Compact Cruiser thing? Six more days to find out...

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Toyota IMV 0 to make global debut in Thailand on 27 Nov 2023

IMV stands for Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle and it is the basis for the Hilux, Fortuner, and the Innova. The Hilux utilizes IMV 1 to 3 (an internal reference for the bodystyles - Single Cab, Extended Cab, and Double Cab respectively), IMV 4 for the Fortuner, and IMV 5 for the Innova though the all-new Innova Zenix now sits on the TNGA-C platform.

At the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), Toyota demonstrated the various usability of the IMV 0 which was called the Rangga as a flatbed, a mobile café, an ambulance, and a portable EV charger. Toyota will also be exhibiting the IMV 0 at the upcoming inaugural Japan Mobility Show, formerly known as the Tokyo Auto Show.

Toyota IMV 0 (Rangga)

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Drove the Hilux for the second time (this time on real roads instead of a closed off-roading park). It is fun around the corners:

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Guys
Hilux is getting approx 10 lakhs offer at the moment. I'm tempted to upgrade from my Thar D AT Feb 2023. Yeah, it's absurd and I never thought we will be using the 2 door Thar this much that now we miss the second door a lot especially the ladies complaining too much.

Realistically, this pricing is coming around 35 lakhs. Is it a good deal? Still I feel it's overpraised.

Did a short test drive and I am thoroughly impressed with the silent nature nature of the cabin and the way the rear leaf spring suspension work it's way through the bad terrain we threw at it (basically Chennai streets). Upto 100 kmph on my empty stretches of city roads feels okish and far far more matured than e.g. Thar but I am asking for a longish highway test drive to decide on the highway behaviour. Side movements are well controlled compared to Thar (Avo suspension).

Then I did a back to back test drive of Isuzu V Cross AT and nothing much to write about for that price. It's less powered, lots of body roll in a not so good roads and seats us in low position. 35 lakhs is completely unjustified after seeing Hilux at 36-37 lakhs. Hilux feels indestructible in comparison and feels it will last forever.

10 lacs discount is too good to pass up.
This is the last of the 2.8 Turbo’s. The new Hilux will be a heavily watered down 2.4 litre.
This is THE proven icon and will surely become a collectible very soon. An Unicorn or perhaps Soonicorn if you like.(in India for sure.).

The second row is bumpy. Be prepared for that. And it doesnt have huge legroom in the second row. The vehicle is long. It is a truck basically so parking a d maneuvring in city spaces wont be easy. If driven around bends fast, there is a chance of the rear fishtailing a bit.

But otherwise it is a heck of a buy and as I said, 10 lacs discount is too good to pass up if you have the use for it or the ‘desire’ for a Hilux! I dont mind admitting I am sorely tempted myself, but I just do not have any justification for such a vehicle.

Putting two pictures recently taken, of this iconic vehicle, just to prod you a little. (Sorry for that!)
