Did you guys get a better quote from Toyota? Also, did they allow dropping accessories and direct procurement insurance for further savings?

I got a quote with a 10L discount, but they had just two color options - white or red. I wasn’t too excited and didn’t take it forward.

This is the maximum I have received so far. They are ok to match the quote and drop accessories package etc. This was at least few weeks back.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

The best discount I got from a Toyota dealer in Tier-2 city of Karnataka is 13L. Bangalore dealers are still sticking to 10L and they have few cars in stock and most of them are manual. Iam looking at 15L which make the Hilux VFM buy.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Strange as it may seem, I am contemplating between a Hilux and a Jimny . My primary car is a 4x2 Endevaour, and we use a Kushaq for city rides. The idea was to buy a 4x4 that could be used to visit our farm, especially during the rains.

If I get a 10L discount on the ex-showroom price (Chennai) of ~37.90L for a Hilux AT High H0 variant and assume we get a 50% discount on insurance, we'll get the car on the road for 36.42L.

Further, if we knock off the 1.2L accessories & 47K extended warranty, the cheapest we'll get the car is for a 34L.

And, if I get greedy and look for dealers who offer the 13L like MC@1986 was suggesting, we'll get the car at 31.10L.

I am wondering if a Hilux AT @31-34L is more bang for the buck than a Jimny MT @ 12L.

It absolutely is , with the Hilux you would get a proper cabin to seat adults in relatively more comfort than in Jimny although the rear seat is nothing to admire about . The biggest thing going for the Hilux would be its load bay since you are planning to use it in your farm or for that use the possibilities that is opens up is unparalleled.

EDIT : Please mind the punctuation mark gap.

Thanks.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Thank you @Rajjaiswal92

The only concern when it comes to the Hilux is its size. The roads to the farm are narrow, and maneuvering my endeavor when a tractor comes in the opposite side becomes hard. With a narrow body, Jimny's has that 'take me anywhere' appeal.

It is quite straightforward, imho, there is earth and sky price gap between the two. If you are placing the cost factor anywhere in your top 3 priorities, deciding between these two, it makes no sense even debating it any further. And yes to me there is absolutely no comparison between these two, having said so, both are competent and good if not the best to the purpose they were build for.

If you are indeed going to a farm, then that cargo bed you get on hilux is worth it's weight in platinum. Yes, you will have to squeeze it and it may brush across an auto on a narrow track once in a while.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

After going back and forth, I am finally getting this picked. Discounts are around 9 Lac here, with no accessories in the North. Maybe dealers have done their quotas, so they are not too worried. Toyota also seems to have some customers, such as the Army and Punjab Police.

Thankfully, the bedliner is now standard from Toyota, and the fit is neat, as expected from Toyota, and so is the hydraulic struts (tailgate assist). I think earlier, these used to be paid options.

I have been recommended to upgrade the King's suspension, but I will decide in a few months. Plan to put 100-150 Kg weight in the trunk permanently. I have added the usual accessories from the dealer - Fabric mats, stylish bar, and an overfender and hood Emblem.

Many congratulations and wishing you a happy ownership experience. Regardless of the present situation at Toyota/ dealers w.r.t. Hilux, this is a good deal. Hoping to see some good mods on this one in coming times.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Are any of the dealers open to offering these discounts without pushing for in-house insurance+extended warranty?

They should, we have not opted for either. Got self-insurance and missed the extended warranty. I think it makes sense to buy the same irrespective of Hilux heritage

Let me share my experience with all the folks here at TeamBhp. I just had the most terrible delivery experience of my life with the Toyota Hilux. I recently took delivery of the Hilux a few days ago and the dealer refused to deliver the car post payment of the entire proforma invoice amount, which was extremely frustrating considering I had travelled around 700kms to buy the car and made arrangements for sufficient liquid funds.

The in-house insurance is offered with an IDV value corresponding to the pre-discounted ex-showroom price, so naturally, one would be paying a higher premium for no reason whatsoever(as during claims the maximum claim value should be less than the ex-showroom price as per invoice). I cited the IRDAI regulations saying that no dealership can force a consumer to buy insurance from them and should allow us to procure insurance directly if we require it. And they were obviously not happy and reluctant to budge. After a lot of negotiations, they offered a small discount on the insurance.

At this point, I didn’t want to argue much and waste time as I was already running late and gave in. I settled up the total invoice amount and headed out for lunch with the sales team and the manager said they would finalise everything and finish the registration process in the meantime, and things were good upto this point. But when I returned back to the dealership, everything went downhill. They first said that the portal for the temp registration was down and made me wait 2 hours(had already spent 4 hours at the dealership from my arrival). I suspected that something was fishy and straightaway asked if I should return another day. This is when the manager tells me that I now had to pay an additional amount for an extended warranty and a miscalculation on the proforma invoice value(from their end).

Like any sane individual, I refused to pay even a single rupee over the agreed Proforma invoice value, so they said they will initiate a refund for the total amount paid and asked me to go back home without the car. Ultimately, I managed to get the car as per the agreed price(12-hour wastage).

So, for anyone looking to purchase a car out of state, be extremely cautious of such naughty and conniving dealers. Most car purchases are emotional investments, and an experience like this will ruin everything for you. Even though I received delivery of the car, I was unable to enjoy the 1K km drive back home fully. So do your due diligence and make sure you know someone locally(preferably of some influence) just as a precaution in case they try to pull something like this on you.

Sorry to learn about your experience. I usually stick with known dealers. I can feel your frustration, and this is something you should highlight to Toyota. Also, post your reviews at Google. I hope Toyota takes this complaint seriously. Problems in the case of such discount offers are usually your word against theirs, but since you have written documents, you should enclose all those.

Also, take an estimate from another insurance provider with the correct Invoice value and report to IRDA about this malpractice of issuing inflated Insurance IDVs. There seems to be a gap here, and let IRDA take note. Even a simple notice will mean some legwork at the Dealer and let them reply to IRDA. Make Toyota a party to this malpractice as the dealers are selling insurance under the Toyota brand name. You should demand a return of the difference amount and a correction of IDV on the Insurance.

I could have also explored higher discounts in the south as some of the dealers are doing currently, but it's a hassle to get the car, and now, with your experience, I am glad I stick with a known, albeit costly, dealer

The showroom Manager of this dealership sold me multiple Qualis/ Innova etc, so our association goes back. He did ask about Insurance, but I politely refused. The insurance quote by Toyota was Rs 1,2 Lac, but we paid Around 52K (Zero Dep including Engine protection) to New India, where we have great relations.

Personally, I think the Hilux is definitely worth it for what it offers, but it is up to you to decide whether it is worth the splurge. The utility of the bed is not something everyone would make use of. The Jimny should be your pick if you are looking for a 4x4 for just your occasional outing. The Jimny is now seeing a good price correction, and I think it is the perfect time to pick one up. The offers may not last long(same goes for the Hilux as well), so If I were you I'd make a decision within the next few months.

I am definitely going to raise this with Toyota. I hope they will take this particular dealer to task. Having said that, I have nothing documented to prove the dealer asking for an additional amount over and above the proforma invoice as I left in a haste post delivery. So unfortunately, it will seem like it is their words against mine.

But I will definitely take this up with IRDAI and Toyota how the dealer forced me into buying an insurance with an IDV over the value of the ex-showroom price just to earn a quick buck even though it has no real relevance to me. The quote I received from Kotak general for a more suitable IDV was 65k(incl. zero dep+return to invoice+4 other relevant add-ons) and I paid around 1.31L to the dealer.

I'm glad you chose to stick to a known dealer as I've come to hear that this is pretty standard(force selling accessories, extended warranty, service packages, etc.) at a few dealerships. I intended to buy the car at a dealership here in Bangalore where I have some contacts, but sadly, they had no inventory and the ones who had were offering very low discounts because of the demand-supply situation here.
