Re: Maruti Grand Vitara Review

Hello Folks

As an owner of a Grand Vitara strong hybrid, for over a year now (Thanks to Team BHP for zeroing in on the purchase), it's now time for the 20k service of the vehicle. Here in lies a couple of things in my head.

1. I feel, while seated inside the car, that my car is relatively lower in height than other grand vitaras. Is this normal or anything specific to be checked?
2. How about coil spring buffers for the suspension?
3. I did take the car on some less motorable roads and it held its own. Only 1-2 spots where i really was scared for the car, because the rain water had eaten away the tarmac and covered the road. The unders in the centre felt like it took a hit while crossing these puddles.
4. The car, at times, feels a bit sluggish (by its own reaction time standards). Like the 'B' gear was active while the slotted gear was still 'D'.
5. Avg has been brilliant, as long as the engine was 'glided' and not 'accelarated'. Close to 26kpl. Car does about 45kms a day.
6. An 80+ yr old swerved once on the road and hit the boot door of my car. Had to get it fixed. The wagonR of the person showed exceptionally worse damage than the Vitara. So assuming the build quality is decent.
7. At times, feeling that the suspension is a bit let down. Android auto disconnects on its own. Have done 1 upgrade of the software though Smartplay app.
8. Car has been bone stock. Now considering and upgrade on
a. coil spring buffers
b. light bulbs
c. any chance the Hyryder's rear and front bumper add ons can fit the vitara?
ANy other suggestions to watch out for during the 20k service and also to enhance the driving experience of the car?

Are they sharing brake cylinder, lines, sensors etc. from other Maruti products which have lower weight? I guess for now we all need to keep good distance from the vehicle in the front as well as keep the focus on driving. Easier said than done in our roads.
I test drove today, it was a 2yr old TD car with 29k kms clocked, and the braking was inadequate (I drive honda city and audi A4, for reference). Came to the forum to see if the issue was just with the TD car or it's a broader issue.

I felt NVH was poor too, had anyone tried damping pads from market on this? How is the NVH after the job?

The braking on my car is pretty good, I mostly just use the regen braking, but the brakes are fairly responsive and strong when needed.

The cabin is fairly quiet, maybe not Audi level quiet though. Does start to get loud once you cross 90kmph or so.

My experience with TD cars is that they are battered as hell, all the local dudes have already revved it beyond the redline, driven it at full speed across broken roads and even given a shot at drifting. All in the name of a test drive.

Thanks for the response. May I know what mileage you are getting in city vs highways? Cheers

Have a manual transmission Smart hybrid (mild hybrid) variant. Getting about 15-18 kmpl in city (have a 17km office run) and almost 17 kmpl on highway. The manual variant's lack of a 6th gear really affects milage on highway. I'm also guessing that better use of gears for regen during slowing down would be an advantage that the automatic variant brings in.

Thank you. How is the NVH of your vehicle. Noise was quite high when I revved TD vehicle.

The cabin is fairly quite during normal city and all driving. The engine and road noise does get a bit louder when you cross 90kmph. However much better than a lot of cars in this segment

I did not expect the Maruti Grand Vitara All Grip to be this good in a trail.

Audi (not the cheaper ones) and Subaru are the masters of AWD systems. But Suzuki is the underdog that surprisingly performs great. Most other AWD systems in crossovers perform poorly, but not Suzuki ones.

This is very cool, the terrain that you took the poor car through was scary and its amazing that the car did not topple or get stuck. I'm sure the jimny was there to tow it out if that happened.

One curious question. What would this mean for people who have the regular non AWD vitara. Does it give them more confidence on the Chassis, weight distribution etc. Does it mean that even a non AWD Vitara might be able to do somethings better than the competition?

Re: Maruti Grand Vitara Review

Guys,

What's a decent price for the used top end Alpha strong hybrid variant in Bangalore? Getting one from Spinny at about 18 Lakhs with 16K on the odo. As per Spinny, no repainted parts and mechanically the car is fine. Just a few scratches on the rear bumper.

Cheers.

AllGrip Select (that the Vitara comes with) is very good at most things just short of full-blown off-roading, for which one would ideally use AllGrip Pro the Jimny comes with. Maruti missed a serious trick offering the car in just one MT variant. A decently loaded, AT Vitara AllGrip would make for a fantastic rough roader & tourer.

I'm confused after watching this video. I have an AllGrip and I noticed that the vehicle here doesn't have the AllGrip badge at the rear. It also has that embellishment below the ORVMs, which mine doesn't. So, am I missing something here?

Not sure what happened to their car's AllGrip badge. May have lost/removed it?

That embellishment is most likely an accessory from the chrome bits Maruti sell. None of the media drive fleet had it, neither have stock cars I've seen recently.
