Since the air conditioner in the Hyryder is not the most powerful around and not satisfactory in this blistering heat (despite completely sealing off the sun-roof with 36 gauge aluminium foil and additional cardboard insulation), I was wondering if one can utilise the VCDS coding (ensure the technician is an expert) to improve the AC cooling. Many BHPian's (attached from Mr Shah) have done it successfully on the Skoda Octavia and Slavia.
VCDS is only for the cars in VW group and this will not work for other brands. You may be able to try some settings using the brand specific software available in workshops but this is a long shot as I do not think there are many options provided to end users (workshops included).

Toyota's equivalent of VCDS is the Techstream software. However, I doubt the service centre will entertain anyone asking to change Techstream parameters. Some time back BS6 Toyotas had an option to change the behaviour of the DPF regeneration switch so that the driver could trigger regen at will. That used to be done through Techstream on customer request. Other than that I haven't heard Toyota entertaining any such parameter change. You could buy a Techstream cable and set up the software on a Windows laptop. It is available on eBay. I have it set up for my Fortuner. I didn't notice any AC parameters there though. It has many other usable configurations for DPF, BCM etc.

Instead of going into technical details, just add a good heat rejection sunfilm. I got the same done on my Hyryder yesterday. The sunroof is the main culprit for the AC to be ineffective during the day.

FYI, I have 3M sun-film all round! Thanks.

Please note and be careful when you complain at Toyota outlets during your next servicing:

The technician will seize on the opportunity and offer paid AC-duct cleaning and evaporator cleaning. He will also offer to replace the filter.

All are totally futile.
Careful!

Hi,

Which sunfilm did you get? It would be great if you can share the cost and the shop where you got it from?

Thanks.

14. Headlights: The headlight is weak, and the throw in low beam is not good. It's also too close to the car and not adequate in the rain. As I understand, it cannot be upgraded either. Fog lamps are sorely missed.

Thank you for reading.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I booked Hyryder G today, I wasn’t able to test the headlight throw. G variant comes with LED headlights. This car is primarily for my father who needs good headlights. Do you think the headlight throw is too bad? I am considering switching my booking to Elevate.

It is okish for city use . If the preference is for highway night drives it is not at all good.

Re: Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Review

50,000 kms update on my Toyota Hyryder, S Variant.

The car was purchased in November 2022 and has completed 57,XXX kms and some change.
Ownership has been uneventful and atleast for me, it is the quintessential, 'fill it and forget it' type car.

Service cost for 40,000 and 50,000 kms has been between Rs 5000-6000. Ofcourse this does not include any value added services like AC cleaning or injector cleaning etc. I tent to stay away from these type of services.

AC cooling is great in the summers, perhaps due to the lack of a sunroof, but with the brutal Delhi summer setting in, average is coming down from 27.5 KMPL to 26 KMPL now.

The car is used everyday. Would 100% recommend to anyone on the fence for a Hybrid car.

That mosquito net is the real culprit in Sunroof variants and it robs the mileage too .One can feel the heat radiating from the top. And during afternoons one wont be able to touch the metal bar across the sunroof that is visible from inside.

Re: Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Review

Got the 20000 kms service done today. 6028 was the final bill amount and 3000rs labor charges is insane for 15 minutes of parts change and 20 minutes of car wash.

Re: Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Review

I have been recently hearing a whistling sound in my G Hybrid around speeds of 20-30kmph, not sure what the source it. Anyone else noticed it?
Maybe its coming from the battery vents inside as it looks to be clogged with my dog's hair and I am not able to clean it using my car vacuum cleaner.

Was able to address it to a point by realigning the beam throw. The OEM throw was too near for my liking.

The low call volume, call drop issue and even the wireless charging issue seems to be solved for now. Will update in case anything goes wrong.

Below are my personal observations, and I mean no offense to anyone. These insights may prove beneficial to prospective buyers. While the positives of this car have been extensively discussed, some negatives also deserve attention. Here are my observations from 750 kilometers of usage on the V variant.
Hi. Looks like you are very unhappy with your purchase as you don't seem to find any positives. Better to sell this car and purchase another one which suits you. The resale price of a Hybrid is quite good

I am a-regular highway driver and I find them to be quite OK. I have completed 29 K with the car and the only major grouse for me are the uncomfortable back seats and overall build and plastic quality. It's a trade off as well built Toyota's are too expensive in this price range. My Yaris was solidly built but did not have any gizmos as all the money was put into makinga solid reliable car.

I have a 3 M film on the sun roof with a dar shade, 50% transmittance. With the IR cut glasses and sunfil the cabin is very comfortable. I have 3 M 90% clear sunfilm on the windscreen which reduces the heat as well
