Re: Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Review

Just wanted to share an important information with others. I always oversee my cars getting service even at authorised service centres. It's just one habit which has helped me a lot.

While I was attending my car getting service, I saw another hyryder which was getting towed to the service centre.
On enquiring it was learnt that the hybrid system has developed a issue after attempted jump start on the car. As per my supervisor they have received an advisory from Toyota which suggested a certain procedure to be followed for Jump starting "Strong hybrid cars" which is different from usual starting car using an auxiliary battery brought in by the RSA people. Although even my car was made to jump start once when the battery was completely drained due to my fault , but as per him some of the cars had this issue of hybrid system failure after they were jump started in the usual way.
I was in a hurry so couldn't ask the
complete details.

Re: Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Review

Happened to test-drive the Hyryder Hybrid as I'm hunting for a new car. Wanted to share my observations from the test-drive.

Likes:
  • Sufficiently comfortable seats with decent under-thigh support (me @ 5'9" and parents below 5'6")
  • Very easy to drive and get used to - all controls within reach and everything feels simple
  • Decent level of kit
  • Driver seats give a great view of the road and the car doesn't 'feel' big to drive
  • Very very peppy to drive in the city - instant response to A pedal inputs

Dislikes:
  • I couldn't stop from wondering how right from the Baleno to Brezza to Fronx to the Hyryder/ Vitara, the interiors look and almost feel the same. My mind doesn't agree to spending 24 L for something that looks and feels so much like a 11 L Baleno
  • 360 degree camera would have been more useful if it had also been integrated to the indicators
  • Boot space is really less - in terms of volume and practicality
  • I could hear the engine and everything working - not the refinement I'd expect out of a product of this segment + felt the ride was on the stiffer side
  • I couldn't believe myself but Toyota (Lanson, Koyambedu) gave me the worst showroom experience of all today - extremely shabby and zero interest from the SA

Overall, was left a bit un-impressed with the Hyryder though it looks like a very practical car with great ground clearance, decent build and incredible Fuel efficiency.

60K PMS & Minor Accident Update

Due to some commitments, had to delay the 60K PMS. The below picture shows what all needs to be done:

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Review-img_1293.jpeg

Replaced the CNG spark plugs as they weren’t available at the 50K PMS. Brake fluid was also replaced as it wasn’t done in the 40K PMS.

Additionally, a peculiar sound could be heard while driving over potholes. They identified the issue and replaced the front suspension arm under warranty.

Minor Accident

While returning from our hometown, a car in front of us came to a halt in the first lane as he realized he missed the exit. Dad couldn’t brake in time (our fault) and eventually rear-ended him. A biker following closely managed to avoid rear-ending our car, but the bike’s crash guard scraped the left side passenger doors.

Decided to claim insurance (had bought from PolicyBazaar) for it, and here’s how it went:

16/02/2025 Sunday: Accident Date

17/02/2025 Monday: Sent the car to ASS for PMS and body work. Had also sent signed paperwork for the insurance claim. PMS was completed the very same day.

18/02/2025 Tuesday: For some reason the policy number showed invalid to the insurance guy at the ASS. Had to intervene and filed for a claim in PolicyBazaar. They then told me to file a claim with the insurer (Zurich Kotak). All this was done late evening.

19/02/2025 Wednesday: The insurance company assigned a surveyor.

20/02/2025 Thursday: Survey completed late evening.

22/02/2025 Saturday: Claim Approved

24/02/2025 Monday: Additional damage was found in the condenser after removing the bumper and was reported to the insurer. Body parts were ordered.

25/02/2025 Tuesday: Condenser replacement approved and ordered. Repair work had begun.

01/03/2025 Saturday: The car was delivered at home.

Very pleased with the outcome. Big thanks to the insurance head, Salman, who kept sharing updates on WhatsApp. Apart from the slight delay for claim approval, I had a pleasant experience with the insurance company as well.

The paintwork seems to be done of a poor quality, which service center was it?

I think metal flakes made it hard to match the new bumper with the old panels. The paint mismatch is not noticeable unless you look very carefully and that too, only under the sun.

The work done was done at Lakozy Toyota, Naigaon.

Re: Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Review

I was in a multi car pileup on the Mumbai Pune Expressway on Feb 24th. The car in front stopped suddenly and though I braked in time, the Nexon guy rear ended me and that ended up me damaging the front as well. Luckily no one was hurt. There were about 6 cars in the pile up.

Car has been given to Sonak Toyota in Bavdhan and hopefully should receive it in a day or two. Claim intimation given to Tata AIG online. They were quick to assign a surveyor, and claim was approved in one day. I have zero dep insurance which should cover all parts.

I also did two mountain journeys(expressway plus hilly roads) and car again returned a mileage of 19.5kmpl.

I could not agree with you more, it is absolute no brainer if you are looking for "tool" for your daily commute to your office. Otherwise is just a bloated version of Maruti car with Toyota engine.

The updated Hyryder has two unmentioned changes
- The sunroof sunshade has been revised.
- the spare wheel has been replaced with a Continental puncture repair kit.

The new sunroof liner looks better than the net type liner that allowed lot of sunlight in the cabin. The car is parked in the sun and didn’t too much sunlight coming from the top with new liner.

The customer has to sacrifice spare wheel to get better sunroof liner and 6 air bags.

Spare is a critical safety component of a car as per my perspective. We used to get full sized wheels years back, then car companies in the name of cost cutting started to give thin wheels and now spare wheel is removed altogether. Sarcastically speaking now Toyota and Maruti salesperson could quote that luxury cars also don’t come with spare so Hyryder/Grand Vitara have no spare wheel.

I just had a conversation with a Toyota salesperson regarding this issue. He said that it’s possible to get the Sphere wheel fitted afterward by the dealer for around 11–12 thousand rupees. In my opinion, it’s worth paying a little extra for peace of mind.”

The platform is provided by Maruti. Car is made at Toyota plan. So then why would the interior & NVH (+ insulation) be so average for a 15 lac+ Toyota car?
I mean Toyota have their own Kaizen & other Quality processes. Look at the flimsy sunroof shade.

Other than Innova / Invicto is Grand Vitara currently the only Toyota-made (not badge- engineered) car sold by Maruti?
