This is the first diesel car in our family and we were really scared about lag issues, but to our pleasant surprise, the engine is very refined and powerful. Don’t live in NCR, so the ten year thing shouldn’t affect us, hopefully.
The ADAS features were scary at first, but after driving it extensively for the last three days in all kinds of traffic, with ADAS active, I feel it is not at all intrusive. The blind spot and a gazillion warnings might be scary at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly.
All in all, a pretty decent buy.
I have one question though- where do I buy genuine accessories, and is a dash cam part of it?
Congratulations

My Tucson's delivery is today evening.

Anybody need help in decoding their Tucson VIN let me know. I have access to decoding website for 24 hours...

No. It was indeed an issue with the Vaahan Portal...

Oh I'm not saying it wasn't an issue with Vahan portal. From what @Samurai wrote, it seems that the dealer dilly-dallied on the registration & payment etc. (they had the car & payment for more than a week) and then towards the delivery date they tried & that's when the Vahan portal went down. It couldn't be that the Vahan portal was down since before 8th Nov, no? @Samurai paid in full by 8th, so there was no reason to wait till the last moment or delivery date.

When I took my car last May, as soon as the payment was transferred to dealer's bank account, they went ahead with registration. The rep handling my car called me up to confirm choice of registration number, booked it & sent the receipt of payment to RTO that day itself on WhatsApp. 3-4 days later I took delivery of the car & it had the HSRP plates on it.

But you have consider the timing. The week under consideration was the busiest car delivery week in the entire year. That was another reason I kept my delivery date after that week.

BTW, good news. Road tax payment finally went through and it looks like I will be driving the Tucson tomorrow to Udupi.

Re: 2022 Hyundai Tucson Review

Finally took delivery of my New Hyundai Tucson, Htrac AWD, Diesel Signature, Starry Night Color.

What an SUV. Hyundai Nailed it. That Bose Sound system, after tweaking a little with the inbuilt equalizer settings is heaven to the ears. Sound is so Good with very Good Bass, which depends on our equalizer settings and the Music app settings on our phone.
Well done Hyundai Team

Re: 2022 Hyundai Tucson Review

5000 KMs update.
Model - Diesel - 2WD Color - White - Purchase Month - June 23
1) The only major problem with the car I have is turning off the forward auto brakes on every startup. I delegate the car to our family driver when I am in office and he is unable to switch off the setting on his own. The new Seltos has the same features and that car doesn't feature the same problem/nuisance as this one.
2) Related Issue - I have had the front braking go off on me 3 times now, in slow moving traffic whenever a scooty or an e rickshaw has tried to cut me off. Thank god, no one has rear ended me so far, even though they came close to it.
3) The performance, the legroom on the rear seat, the overall luxury feel of the car is stellar. The best part is the refinement. It doesn't feel like a truck at 180PS+ in a Diesel car. The boot space is stellar.
4) ADAS helps a lot, provided that one turns off the forward auto braking every time you start the car. The rear auto braking is useful and non intrusive. The blind spot warnings are great too. I have a visual condition/limitation and ADAS + 360 camera overall is a godsend for me.
5) Best car to buy around the 39 Lakhs bracket given the market right now? ---> Yes. All of my friends are stunned by what is on offer and one has even bought a Tucson for his daily use to his factory.
6) TPMS - I thought was wonky at first, but it detected a puncture despite my insistence of no puncture and only low tyre pressure. The error subsisted despite multiple refills of air and eventually a nut induced puncture was found.
7) For new owners, let the car run in for 2500KMs, the engine will open up post that. Please control the car as the acceleration is humongous, if you demand it from the engine. Same with the music system, I don't know how, but it sounds better now.
8) The Touchscreen based AC controls should be avoided by all companies. I faced the issue of looking away from the road in the WRV, and am facing the same here too. Driver too struggles with the air-con. However, the performance of the air con is stellar.
9) No wireless airplay + android at this price + Sun-blinds in the rear are a bummer. Everything else is great.
10) Soft touch everywhere. Please buy 3M foam for cleaning the beige seats.

Would I buy it again? - Yes.
Is ADAS the selling feature? - No.
What is the biggest "feature"? - the space inside with adults averaging 5'7 in height is insane. The ride quality + boot space + refinement + After Sales of Hyundai = makes this car a winner.
P.S. - If anyone from Hyundai ever reads this, fix the auto braking issue via a software update based toggle to remember the settings each time the car is turned off. It can cause and is causing huge problems to your customers.

I first experienced ADAS in London in 2019, and I can say that I’m a better driver now because of it.
Having driven the Tuscon in really pathetic traffic conditions of Ranchi, I can say that it is not intrusive at all.
If we maintain our speeds, keep appropriate distance between the vehicle in the front, and most of all, not be in a rush, ADAS would not do anything.
Personally, I feel it’s a god sent, considering the amount of accidents that happen in India.
Just to clarify, it’s just my opinion.

.
For wireless carplay and Android auto, you can use Carlinkit 5.0. Been using it for a while now and it's working flawlessly as ever.

As for sunblinds, there is an official accessory from Hyundai with magnetic tips. They should have provided an in-built one, but this will do the job most of the time.

Re: 2022 Hyundai Tucson Review

8000 Km Update

Would like to share a brief review and updates done in my Tucson after driving it for 8K Km.

Model :- Petrol, Signature Variant, Starry Night Colour.
Overall Mileage :- 10.2 Km/L (75% highways with average speed of
60Km/hr, 25% City drive)

Pros
a. Comfortable Ride Quality in both highways and city
b. Smooth handling at higher speeds on the highways. Feels planted and stable even when traveling at 100+ kph
c. Premium Styling (both Interior & Exterior)

Cons
a. Audio System:
The standard/sub-par audio system does not provide the premium sound quality and immersive experience I expected in this vehicle class.

b. Acceleration:
When needing to quickly accelerate to pass other vehicles, especially at highway speeds, the engine and transmission response feels underpowered and lacklustre for confident highway overtaking Manoeuvres.

c. Fuel Efficiency:
After previously driving a manual diesel sedan (Linea) that delivered consistently 20+ km/litre on highways, I needed time to adjust expectations with the lower fuel efficiency of automatic petrol SUV, which achieves around 10 km/litre even with sedate driving.

Upgrades

1. PPF :-
Keystone Autocare, Bangalore (Mr.Nirmal)
Brand :- Auto Engage high gloss with 10 years warranty, 200 microns TPU with top coated layer

Soon after taking delivery of my new vehicle, had PPF installed. Very satisfied with the consultative process provided by Mr. Nirmal in the process of PPF installation for my vehicle. His installation team did an excellent job with the application, ensuring a seamless fit on all painted surfaces.
PPF has performed flawlessly so far in keeping my vehicle's exterior in pristine condition.

2. Audio System Upgrade by Speed Freaks, Chennai

To enhance the standard audio system , I consulted with Mr. Karthik at Speed Freaks in Chennai regarding a multi-stage upgrade to achieve a premium sound quality.

Stage 1 (April 2023): Sound Dampening
The first step was to install comprehensive sound dampening materials which improved the audio experience much better in the front seats, but further upgrades were still needed for optimal rear seat acoustics.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Review-img20230412wa0004.jpg

Stage 2 (October 2023): Digital Signal Processor and Speakers
Since a plug-and-play wiring harness was not yet available in India for Tucson, I remained in contact with Mr. Karthik over several months as he awaited delivery of the harness from Korea.
Once acquired in September, I scheduled for the next stage upgrade. The Speed Freaks team demonstrated efficient and meticulous workmanship throughout the two-day installation process, which I observed onsite.
The final tuning took more than two - three hours post-installation to optimize the system's sound quality, which the staff diligently completed late into the evening.
Mr.Karthik fine-tuned the system for Bluetooth and Apple Car-Play sources during this phase, achieving exceptional audio fidelity.
The controller (to save presets) was not available during the installation and decided to do it at later stage. Android Auto output didn't had any major impact and decided to utilize Ipod Touch or Bluetooth as my primary audio source until that component arrives.
Overall, the professional expertise demonstrated by Mr. Karthik and his staff resulted in a dramatically improved listening experience.
The custom audio upgrade delivered the premier sound quality I desired for enjoying music in my vehicle.

After upgrading from a sedan (Fiat Linea) to this SUV, I am pleased overall with the Tucson after 8 months and 8000 kms driven. It meets my needs well as a family SUV with good highway manners and a premium feel.

The Tucson was a nice upgrade over my previous sedan in terms of space, comfort, and capabilities. I'm satisfied so far with my decision to purchase the Hyundai Tucson and looking forward for more great drives.

Re: 2022 Hyundai Tucson Review

Hi Everyone,

I took the delivery of Signature AT petrol variant on Dhanteras. So far I have driven around 135km within city on crowded roads. I am getting a mileage of 4.5-5km. Is it too less or should I be more patient and do few long drives on empty roads to see mileage climb up?

Secondly, dealership didn't give me 7D mat for boot. Is it a good accessory to have and should I buy from market?

Thanks in advance for the help

Regards,

It is slightly on the lower side, but you are in Mumbai and its a petrol. I would suggest taking the car for a drive up to Lonavala and further, and drive back, and see what you get post hitting the highway. if you get anything less than 12-13, then may be talk to dealer. Mine improved significantly after about 2000 kms.

Re: 2022 Hyundai Tucson Review

I don't know why some people here feel that the Bose audio set up of Tucson is not satisfactory. It is a very Good audio set up. Just tweak your equalizer settings and also let the speakers to burn in which needs atleast a 100 hours playback minimum....

Re: 2022 Hyundai Tucson Review

Has anyone encountered a Low Urea warning? I got the first warning around 9500 km while driving from Mumbai to Hyderabad. The manual says there are 4 stages for the warnings, and I wanted to figure out how long these warnings last before the car refuses to restart. Currently, it shows me around 30% urea left, and since I am not traveling long distances soon, I want to stress test to figure out how far I can go.

If anyone has any experience related to Tucson, please share.
Also, can someone suggest a 5L Adblue Can that I can keep in the boot?
I am looking to experiment and report back here.

On a related note - Hyundai said they can refill at INR100/ Lt. Bharat Petroleum Polic petrol pump near Gachibowli Hyderabad is selling Mak-Adblue 10L at INR 800 (original price is INR 1000)
Here is what the manual says.

One may be surprised to see photographs of a Ford Endeavour in this forum. Let me explain. When I bought an Endeavour 2.2 AT Titanium in April 2018, I was so thrilled with it that I wrote on Team-BHP : “Finally a car I might love to drive to my own funeral”. I was 67 years old then and assumed it would be my last car.

Though my love affair with the Endeavour continues and it gives me as much driving delight as it gave on day-1, I have this worm in my head which starts prompting me to buy a new car every 5 years. It’s like an obsession. At age 67 I thought that in another 5 years I would be too old for such obsessions and so I bought a highly robust and premium car to last me till my dying day. But I was wrong. I’m 72 now and the 5-year itch is as strong as before. So with mixed feelings (a heavy heart + eager anticipation) I decided to say goodbye to my beloved Endeavour and buy a new car.

After deciding to sell my 5.5YO Ford Endeavour I started a search for my next SUV. I saw dozens of YouTube videos of car reviews and test drove many cars such as Jeep Meridian, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Land Rover Discovery, Volvo XC60, Audi Q5 and Hyundai Tucson. After a lot of mental (and emotional) flip flops I finally zeroed in on the Tucson primarily because no other similar car (even cars in a higher segment) gave me a bouquet of features and ticked most of my check boxes at a really attractive price of ₹4 million on-road. Hyundai’s wide service network was another important factor because I keep driving to all corners of India including some very remote places.

One thing is for sure - Tucson will not give me the exact driving feel I get in a heavy, tall and butch ladder frame SUV like Endeavour. Out of the cars I test drove, only the Jeep Grand Cherokee came close to it but it's ₹85 lakhs, somewhat underpowered, and spares and service costs are high. I don't like Fortuner's ride quality and it offers minimal modern features (I love latest tech like ADAS, 360° camera, ventilated seats, large digital displays, sunroof, built-in navigation, connected technology, etc.) though in terms of reliability and maintenance costs Toyotas are great. Cars like XC90, Mercedes GLE / GLS, Audi Q7, etc, would certainly delight me but shelling out 1.2 crore or more is somewhat daunting. Added issues with these extra premium cars are high maintenance costs and very rapid and steep depreciation.

Coming back to the Tucson, I found in it a driving pleasure of a different kind - very peppy, a lighter feel, greater manoeuvrability, good ride & handling and the assurance of better road-holding in difficult terrain through always-on AWD. I'm sure it will grow on me with time. Hyundai does not have high badge value in India and it will not give me much bragging rights amongst my friends after the Endeavour ownership. But the bottom line for me is my personal driving pleasure and delight with features, regardless of what others say. I very well know that Tucson may not even give me good resale value as it has not really caught on in India. But I went ahead and booked the top variant of Tucson anyway. That’s why I’m gate crashing into this forum.

The things I loved about the Tucson during my 2 test drives are :

1. Super silent and refined 2.0 litre diesel engine producing more power and torque than my Endeavour — 184 BHP and 416 Nm to be precise! Being about 600 kg lighter than my Endeavour, its power-to-weight ratio is almost phenomenal. Mated with a great 8-speed automatic transmission it will put a smile on my face every time I step on the gas.
2. Always-on intelligent AWD with Hyundai’s proven HTRAC system should get me past all obstacles and terrains I normally encounter during my frequent expeditions to the mountains and remote areas. I never did hard core off-roading and I'm not about to start such crazy activities at age 72.
3. Large 235/60 R18 tyres and decent ground clearance should provide the ability to glide over bad roads and craters.
4. I'll miss the macho looks of my Endeavour, but the Tucson doesn't look too bad. I liked its front grille, LED DRLs, fancy rear lights, sexy diamond cut alloys and angular body contours. White is my favourite car colour.
5. Interiors are very premium and modern looking. 2nd row has huge leg space. Boot space is very good.
6. Hyundai is offering 3 yrs warranty + 2 more yrs extended warranty at a nominal cost. They are also throwing in 3 yrs free service!
7. Some other features I liked : 4 drive modes (normal, sport, eco, smart), 3 AWD modes (mud, sand, snow), electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist, downhill brake control, both front seat-belt pretensioners, 6 airbags including side and curtain, both front seats power adjustable (with memory) with ventilation & heating, fully digital 10.25" instrument and information cluster in front of the driver which can be customised in multiple ways, another 10.25" HD digital touchscreen (for built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and various controls), Bose audio system, Hyundai Bluelink connected car technology (one can get info on various car parameters and driving data on smartphone, the car can even be started / locked / unlocked / ventilated remotely with smartphone), over the air updates, different user profiles, panoramic sunroof, autonomous level 2 ADAS with every conceivable feature (such as adaptive cruise control, hands-free lane following, automatic braking to avoid collisions, etc.), 360° camera, blind-spot monitoring, front & rear parking sensors, TPMS which shows all 4 tyre pressures, wireless phone charger, auto dimming IRVM, electric parking brake, auto hold, hands free tailgate, voice commands, etc, etc, etc - the list is endless!

Many people buy feature laden gizmos (cars, smartphones, computers, tablets, TVs, etc.) but either don't use most of the features or don't know how to use them or don't even have a need for them. But I'm a tech-crazy old fogey who actually uses and enjoys most of the modern high-tech stuff. So the Tucson and I seem to be made for each other.

A good friend of mine who bought a Tucson AWD in Kolkata a few months ago has driven it 10,000+ km and is totally delighted with the SUV. His positive experience, and those of many other Tucson owners shared on Team-BHP, made my selection easier.

I have been promised delivery within 4 to 6 weeks. Meanwhile I’m browsing through this forum from beginning to end. It’s wonderful being with you folks.
